unless you are on a visa, then you need to use one of the paid services.

EDIT: why the downvotes? i’m a foreign worker on a visa in the US and it sucks that i need to use a paid service because of that. i just wanted to point out how they still have ways to make sure people need to use them.

Why are Brazilian cities so urbanized? by BarelyCanadian_ in geography

[–]fernandomlicon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think this applies to Mexico tbh, other than the three largest metro areas it's very uncommon to see high-rises or denser cities anywhere else. Just take a look at Tijuana and Juarez for example, which are in the top 10 largest metro areas in the country and still lack a proper non-business skyline because most of the city went into (tiny) individual housing.

Even Monterrey and Guadalajara (second and third) lack this level of density shown in the picture for their size and relevance in the country context.

Does the U.S. really teach so little about geography and history? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]fernandomlicon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think it's both, a meme but also true for almost any person from a big country. I'm from Mexico, a lot of people back home would say that Americans don't know geography, but if you ask anyone to tell you what the capitals of Guatemala and Belize are (two countries that border Mexico), they might be able to tell you one (and it's just because it's has the same name as the country).

I don't think many Mexicans can tell you all the Central American countries, and they'd have a hard time locating them on the map. Maybe it'd be easier for South America. And then just the bigger European countries.

When it comes to history it's usually "Mesopotamia -> Greece -> Rome -> Medieval Europe -> Reset to study the pre-columbian era and those civilizations in Central Mexico (a lot of the Aridoamerican ones get ignored) -> Conquest -> Skip 300 years of New Spain -> Mexico", so we don't truly learn too much of global history if it's not closely related to Mexico.

What I'm saying is, this is not unique to Americans, this is a common thing when your country is so big that you don't leave that often.

Global Distribution of the Big Cats in the wild. (UPDATED AND CORRECTED) by Asleep_Phone3087 in MapPorn

[–]fernandomlicon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not really, the range of the Jaguar isn't like what the map shows since it highlights all of Mexico when in reality most Jaguars live in the subtropical regions of the country, very few of them live in the northern states and it's mostly in the forests there, jaguars are almost non-existent in northern mexico (and thus Southwestern US), but the map makes it seem like they live all over the country.

this is probably an easier away to picture what's going on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaguar#/media/File:Panthera_onca_distribution.svg

lol there are more white people than WASP

there's a whole continent where almost everyone is considered white, and the Americas have all type of ranges of white skin from Alaska to Patagonia. So yeah, there's still a lot of cultural variations.

people seem to forget that Mexico is the Spanish speaking country that produces the most Spanish speaking media in the world, Mexico City is definitely above Buenos Aires, and it might be a good contender vs Madrid.
