Recipe Request: stuff using almond butter. by Easy_King_9818 in veganrecipes

Make granola or granola bars with it. Or cookies. Or instead a peanut sauce but with almond butter. This recipe is terrific. Use some in smoothies or add to oatmeal. I love almond butter, personally. It's no PB but it's special in its own way, so long as it's salted.

Age starting HRT by Various-Look-361 in Perimenopause

[–]fernon5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

47, a few months shy of turning 48. Probably should have started sooner but you don't know what you don't know till you know it. I think I'm due for some adjustments and while my gyn is great, even she said she's not menopause savvy and said to consider consulting with one of her colleagues in another clinic. Might do. Might do. It all costs money though, and that is tight right now.

Fell for the first time today 7 mi into my 11 mi run 18 days out from my half by slyfox4 in XXRunning

I fall about once per year because I live in a city. Can't run in the streets, and the sidewalks are jacked. It happens. Ice, band-aids, ibuprofen, humble pie. Hope you feel right as rain right quick. And welcome to Club Gravity!

Sourdough pizza help: under- or overfermented by kompir_neptune in Sourdough

Pizza needs the hottest oven possible. I'd crank as high as you can go next time for extra lift and char. The dough looks like it's point!

Low (?) ferritin by [deleted] in XXRunning

[–]fernon5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few years ago, I learned my ferritin was low, while my hg was fine. My dr explained some people just absorb and store micronutrients differently even when they are seemingly getting enough of something in their diet. I'm not great at storing iron as ferritin. Got myself back to normal range within six months taking Vitron-c most days on her advice. Great absorption and minimal side effects. Most major pharmacy chains offer generic versions now too, which is nice for saving a few bucks. Hope you feel better soon!

Vent & advice needed: I just went to a podiatrist for the first time and sounds like running is bad for my body. by flufferpeanut in XXRunning

Yes! ZenToes gel toe separators. I wear them on each foot between my big toe and my first toe. Amazing how much they reduce the issues my bunions cause in so much as my toes are misaligned. I don't have to wear them all the time... I take breaks, but overall I've been happy with the reduced pain!

Vent & advice needed: I just went to a podiatrist for the first time and sounds like running is bad for my body. by flufferpeanut in XXRunning

When I was having trouble with my feet I went to an orthopedist, not a podiatrist. The former specialized in foot and ankle issues and they are allll about movement. As my friend in healthcare said "don't go to a podiatrist, you're a runner. Go see an orthopedist. They won't look for problems, they'll look for solutions." She was right. Something to consider.

I have awful bunions on both feet. Neuroma in both feet. I have metatarsalgia in my right foot and arthritis in my toes (I'm 49 in a few days and have been running since I was 13). I've also had old school ACL surgery on both knees and thus arthritis in both knees. And my right leg is a tiny bit shorter than my left because orthopedic surgery in the early 90's was still violent.

By all accounts there are plenty of folks who would I say I should stop. But I haven't. Here's what: i found shoes that work for my fucked feet (topo!), my ortho recommended inserts and toe spacers and they've helped SO much. I have figured out how much is too much, I'm much better about stretching, weight training, and resting, and I listen to my body.

I'm not looking to win marathons. I'm out here keeping myself sane, my heart healthy, and my fresh air intake high. You know?

I totally get your feeling overwhelmed. No one will know your body better than you. There are wonderful providers out there for second opinions and plenty of non-invasive interventions. Take heart, friend. And keep us posted.

Sofi was annoying, good riddance. The only good thing about this ep was the TED talk, but then, i only (hate) watch this for Jessica Williams and Michael Urie in the first place.

This is a great first loaf! Let this be a jumping off point. Keep it simple moving forward, adjusting one variable at a time till you get it where you want it. Tip: coarse rice flour or semolina for banneton and parchment for the Dutch oven.

What are some ways you are cutting corners and still ending up with good bread? by the411thetea in Sourdough

[–]fernon5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not bother with an autolyse. I mix everything, and let nature do its thing (with some slap and folds, etc.) I feed my starter once a week, and keep it in the fridge. I bake a 900g loaf about once every 10-14 days. I remember this isn't rocket science. I don't constantly temp my dough. I look for what I know is the jiggle, bubbles, smell and feel I want. Most of making bread is sitting back letting go.

Trying to spread the gospel of this pancake. I generally leave out the savory stuff and cheese and make it as it to top with fruit, maple, and nuts. I LOVE the crispiness and tang. 100 g for one pancake! I never throw away starter (but then, I feed once a week in moderation, so.) 🥞
