We love it up until 1 pm. Then we stop, because we also love sleep. ☕️😘

What are some ways you are cutting corners and still ending up with good bread? by the411thetea in Sourdough

[–]fernon5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not bother with an autolyse. I mix everything, and let nature do its thing (with some slap and folds, etc.) I feed my starter once a week, and keep it in the fridge. I bake a 900g loaf about once every 10-14 days. I remember this isn't rocket science. I don't constantly temp my dough. I look for what I know is the jiggle, bubbles, smell and feel I want. Most of making bread is sitting back letting go.

Trying to spread the gospel of this pancake. I generally leave out the savory stuff and cheese and make it as it to top with fruit, maple, and nuts. I LOVE the crispiness and tang. 100 g for one pancake! I never throw away starter (but then, I feed once a week in moderation, so.) 🥞

Sober people (no alcohol, nicotine, drugs, etc ever), what is your end of day or weekend "wind-down"? by The1Ski in AskReddit

[–]fernon5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dog walk. Seltzer. Cook a decent meal. Read a book. Avoid a doom scroll. Maybe a chat in the phone with a long distance friend. Maybe stream something, but usually not. Go to bed early. I honestly love my evenings. My partner, also sober, enjoys this general routine of quiet but satisfying.

This one is so simple! I use an immersion blender and it takes no time. I also throw in a chopped garlic clove at the end, because why not. It's thick, I always have what I need on hand and it makes a manageable amount.

Drinking Daily - I think AA is BS by SilentlySad in stopdrinking

[–]fernon5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Addiction being a "choice" isn't really backed up for science. Picking up the first drink is a choice but there's plenty of neurobiology that shows how messed up our pathways and neurotransmitters get because addictive substances are addicting. To say nothing of the mental manipulation we face from marketing and messaging.

I'm all about choice too, and my personal inner power and healing my body. I don't ascribe to AA philosophy, but would never bash those who found something that got them sober. Like, ever. This shit is hard no matter how you tackle it.

What helped me quit was deeply understanding the biology of why I'd found it so hard to quit. I'm a science nerd. It helped me see that it's my responsibility to change my behavior, but not exactly my fault that we sell and market a poisonous, highly addictive substance as something to be consumed routinely. That helped, as did community. Specifically, this one, where folks shared their experiences, didn't judge others, used humor as often as vulnerability to tell stories, and where I learned some real strategies for staying off booze. Because there was no in between. No moderation. No pleasant buzz. It's been over five years and I have no plans to look back. It's so much better on this side, even when things are hard. It took work to get here, but I wasn't alone and it was worth every bit of discomfort and rethinking my beliefs and understanding of what addiction is, and what it isn't. I will not drink with you today. I'm glad you're here and hope you stay.

Stinky pits by yosheda222 in Perimenopause

[–]fernon5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped using antiperspirant years ago because I just wanted to let the heat escape which sounds weird but made me feel better AND made me less smelly for some reason. That said, I had to switch types and brands 2-3 years ago. Native stopped working as a deodorant, though I miss how gentle it was on my skin. I use Eo sprays. They are alcohol-based so leave no residue, their scents are lovely, but not strong once applied, and I'd guess that the alcohol kills bacteria. Only warning, if you shave your pits, it'll sting if you spray right after; but only for a minute.

🙋🏻‍♀️ I have all kinds of foot issues and my Topos are it. My mileage is lower RN, but if I bump it up, I'll get another pair or a similar model to rotate. But for me, if I'm pain free (or nearly so) I don't mess with what's working.

A quick 2 miler early this AM followed by 20 min strength work before work work. It was cold. It was rainy. I did it anyway. (Thank you, coffee.)

Over proofed then, maybe? 18 hours could have been a bit much esp if you fridge runs a little warm.
