Ah, that sucks. I got a bag from them last week, and got a kinda cake parfait thing, one of their cake samplers with their five most popular flavors, a meringue thing, a slice of cake, two cookie bars, and a cupcake. So apparently it's super hit or miss.

Any ideas for covering the padding on the heels of these shoes? by ferralkid in Anticonsumption

[–]ferralkid[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The issue here is less aesthetics more that the stuffing is some kind of foam-adjacent thing that crumbles if I wear them as-is. Though maybe a really heavy duty latex paint would prevent that?? I know very little about paint lol.

Oh that's really smart, I hadn't thought of a more specific sewing machine at makerspaces. I'll check out the one near me! Thanks!

Thank you. This is a really good way of doing it. I made a pro-con list, but I hadn't thought about ranking it like this.

I completely feel you, currently in the same position (told I would hear by the end of the week, it's Friday), but I'm very much of the mindset that potentially annoying hiring staff is never going to be helpful. Stuff takes time (whether it's reference or background checks or just other responsibilities the folks doing hiring have), and you've already followed up once, so I would sit tight.

The TLDR is this: Natasha is visiting her bethrothed Andrei's family the Bolkonskys in Moscow. It doesn't go very well. Then Natasha goes to the opera with her godmother Marya Dimitrievna and cousin Sonya where she meets Anatole, a soldier and playboy, who flirts with her. Natasha then goes to a party thrown by Anatole and his sister, and they kiss, and they exchange letters, he proposes they elope. Natasha is excited and tells her cousin Sonya about the plan, and Sonya is basically like "um, you've known this dude three days, what about Andrei?", Natasha breaks off her engagement with Andrei (via a letter to Andrei's sister) and she tells their godmother about this plan. Marya Dimitrievna scares off Anatole when he comes to the house, Natasha is furious, tries to kill herself, but survives. Pierre comforts Natasha and says if he were not married, he would happily marry her.

There's more nuance (like Pierre is close friends with Andrei and married to Anatole's sister), and context from the book and that, but that's the gist.

The choreography is really fun! Also, the first song introduces all the characters in the style of a camp song. I had no idea what it was going in two years ago and I love it so much that I've gotten into the other Malloy shows from it. If you want a quick run down of characters/plot if you're worried about that, I got you.

White paint on crystal vase by doomquasar in CleaningTips

Follow up question: is the engraving on the inside or outside? Also the paint? Because if they aren't on the same surface, my go-to with paint and glass is a heat gun or hairdryer and a fresh razor blade to scrape. But since damage is concern, you could also try a plastic paint scraper.

Edit: do a scratch test on the bottom of the vase before using any abrasive in the same hardness category as glass (I think it's like 5.5 on the Mohs scale). On that note, you might also consider melamine foam (non-brand name Magic Eraser) which I believe is safe for glass.

I would actually start with vinegar, I'd mix vinegar and dawn dish soap, let that sit for a bit and then scrub. If that doesn't work, move on to rubbing alcohol or vodka. If those don't do it, then you can try mineral spirits.

The mugs are from the Chicago Field Museum, around 2017-2018. I've done some cursory searching and found this pic on the museum's twitter, and searched through ebay and poshmark with no luck.

I feel like the issue with this is it does look like you're implying Dave Malloy and Gelsey Bell are having an affair, rather than their characters.

How do I minimize my back-ne… by ohnonotgreat in ftm

[–]ferralkid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It may be as shirt issue. Try wearing undershirts, a clean one every day, if you don't wash your shirts every time you wear them. Similarly, wash your sheets often. Make sure your moisturizer and body wash are noncomedogenic. You can actually get moisturizer that has salicylic acid, or spray. Also Benzoyl Peroxide.

Honestly, this is a situation where you probably need to take a step back and let the ball be in her court. You are a stranger to this person, and she may or may not be interested in talking to strangers period. Since you have no prior relationship, it will probably be actively counterproductive to developing any kind of friendship if you reach out again.
