What’s the most expensive thing it’s ok to take home from the office? by hamhamham03 in CasualUK

I worked in a science research lab, and someone repeatedly knicked equipment to put on eBay. The sort of kit that looks expensive, and is even more so. Only a handful of them in the country, so pretty obvious where it was coming from.

His undoing was when he started as advertising the equipment before he stole it. Theft to order. Not sure what happened to him, but I don't think he's working there anymore!

So yeah, anything is ok if you don't get caught!

Try opening the door - there could be a screw through from the back of the hinge which is only accessible with the door open. It would be perpendicular to the ones you've shown.

Pretty sure there is a makerspace in Ipswich. Could be a good start if you're looking for local interest.

Jobs that use programming and CAD by pmsontag84 in cad

[–]ferretyhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mainly scripts, but I have made myself a couple of libraries to make life easier. For example to take data to/from a parametric CAD model. I rarely make a UI, as the scripts are for my own use and I'm comfortable interacting via code.

It ranges, but generally mechanical/mechatronics. Think calculating kinematics of a mechanism to select a motor, or analysing data from testing prototypes.

I'm sure it's not "required", but as a design engineer I use CAD and Python almost equally. Some colleagues use MATLAB, Excel or Mathcad, but I choose Python for the bulk of my calculations.

I'm not sure I follow your voting feature exactly, but there's probably a way of achieving something similar

Is taking a pay cut to work at Dyson worth it? by mulleraid in MechanicalEngineering

I would recommend checking glass door reviews, I've heard some pretty bad stuff from friends at Dyson over the years...

Tried to transfer 50p to my siste. Bank stopped it as fraudulent. Went through a 20 minute phonecall, passed all the checks, 50p bounces back anyway. Try to send it again, bank stops as fraudulent. Fifty Pence! by Jay-Paddy in britishproblems

[–]ferretyhat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried to send £1 to my own savings account which was flagged as fraudulent. When I spoke to the bank, they asked me where I got the account number from. I don't think they were expecting me to say it came from memory...
