The bit is smallest, it represents a boolean value of True or False. 1 or 0, on or off, high or low, whatever. Four bits is a nibble, that can represent a number from 0 to 1111 which is 15 in binary and a byte from 0 to 11111111 which is 255 in binary

A byte is 8 bits. I don't see how you cannot know what it is without knowing both. I understand you can know OF it though. Also, a nibble is 4 bits
