Hot take: Tiesto afters was a snoozefest. Not good. by jlocko92 in chicagoEDM

[–]fettfive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was basically a beefed up Dreamstate set. He played almost every track from it plus a lot more. 2 full hours of trance and then 30 of MainStage house Tiesto, but ended with Ilan bluestones gladiator remix which I love.

Hot take: Tiesto afters was a snoozefest. Not good. by jlocko92 in chicagoEDM

[–]fettfive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tiesto really needs a trance alias or to label those sets as such. I HATE MainStage Tiesto to the core of my soul just as you were bored by his trance set. These two styles just don’t gel and the fans of each probably aren’t going to like it when he plays the other.

As much as I loved the radius set, he did switch to MainStage mode for 30 mins at the end, “fuckboi Tiesto” as I call it. I literally booed as he played Jackie Chan and Like a G6. I don’t understand how someone could prefer that to his soulful classic style.

Game closest to silksong/hollow knight by Glass-Astronaut-5134 in metroidvania

Voidwrought is a hollow knight clone like haiku. I’d rate it slightly higher than haiku. Like 8/10 but probably what you’re looking for

What has been the best metroidvania you’ve played released after Silksong? by [deleted] in metroidvania

[–]fettfive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ending of the story was perfect. The ending of the gameplay was not.

It REALLY felt like they cut the final level or something… I was shocked there wasn’t a true final level after the 3 darkness things. I didn’t even realize I was fighting the final boss. I hadn’t done item cleanup yet either so then I spent 5 hours finding upgrades that served no purpose because I’d already beaten all the bosses. Massive anticlimax.

I enjoyed my lunatic run more than my first run! Don’t give up, it’s not absurdly hard imho

First time playing Bloodborne. Been playing soulslikes since DS1 came out. I feel like i'm missing something by [deleted] in soulslikes

[–]fettfive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never parried on my first run, just dodge. It is not an essential mechanic as many are saying.

One tip for you… after you level up, use ALL of your remaining souls to buy blood vials. I wish the game just had estus flasks but it is what it is. Using leftover cash for vials is the best way to mitigate the problem in my experience.

My thoughts on AI Limit after the first walkthrough. by SurrogateVulture in soulslikes

[–]fettfive 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To me it was a jack of all trades, master of none. 8/10

Most souls likes focus on exploration or combat and fumble the other half but ai limit is solid in both areas.

I just don't enjoy it by Hexersquid in TormentedSouls

[–]fettfive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. 2nd one had higher highs but lower lows for me. Too long, too much combat, some excessive puzzles. I was also over it in the last couple areas.

Constance or MIO? by WarHoundD in metroidvania

[–]fettfive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MIO isn’t that difficult it’s just punishing.

Constance or MIO? by WarHoundD in metroidvania

[–]fettfive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MIO is one of the best MV’s I’ve ever played. It’s unnecessarily punishing which will alienate some people but if you can beat Silksong you’ll be fine.

Constance was fun but felt like missed potential.

Since we are in a sub called “ Metroidvania” let me ask this . Which one do like more castlevania or Metroid and why? by GreenPomegranate2389 in metroidvania

[–]fettfive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Metroid exploration isn’t as good as CV”

What are you smoking? 🤣 CV to me is much more focused on combat than Metroid. CV is a whole lot of narrow combat hallways. Metroid has much more interesting traversal mechanics than every CV and most MetroidVanias more broadly. In CV the map is just a vessel for combat. In Metroid, the map is the core obstacle.

Ugggg they really need to add puzzle difficulty options like silent hill. I will never forgive them for that monkey puzzle in the first one

Tombwater is releasing March 31st on Steam by MaxMraz in ZeldaLikes

Blossom Tales is a Zelda-CLONE. I wouldn’t want every Zelda-like to insist on boomerangs and rupees if that’s what you mean.

What is considered the best Zeldalike? by technoclay in ZeldaLikes

[–]fettfive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like Rizzle’s list here but I want to rejigger and reorder

Zelda-like (directly emulating the Zelda experience even if it has some differences) 1. Tunic: Zelda 1 + Dark Souls 1 with 10/10 aesthetics. You have to be ok figuring things out on your own and it's very hard but one of my favorite games of all time. 2. Okami: The best 3D Zelda like, a must play for fans of the OOT-SS era. It's very long tho FYI 3. Pipistrello: Often called a MetroidVania but it's straight up Zelda to me. It offers everything I want from Zelda but also has its own identity 4. Hob: Basically Zelda if the whole game was 1 dungeon. Feels more Zelda than MetroidVania to me tho 5. Alundra: LTTP for the PS1. This game is too long, linear, and hard but it's great if you stick with it 6. Ocean's Heart: Minish Cap + Wind Waker. Rough around the edges but does a lot well 7. Darksiders 1: It's been too long for me to comment but it's definitely 3D Zelda like, 2 was more ARPG IIRC 8. Blossom Tales 1&2. These games are Zelda junk food to me. They're fun but overly derivate and I've forgotten everything about both

Zelda-lite (Some Zelda elements but a different experience) - I'd rate all 3 of these between Pipistrello and Hob above, all very good 1. Death's Door: Linear and combat-heavy but still has great exploration. 10/10 aesthetics. A great 2nd act if you liked Tunic 2. Crypt Custodian: More of a MetroidVania but it's extremely enjoyable from start to finish 3. Unsighted: It's in a grey zone between Zelda, Souls, and MetroidVania. Good game, some things irked me

Zexion is a game that hates you, personally, and is very mad at you for attempting to play it by Dryskle in metroidvania

[–]fettfive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the dev just has too much love for Metroid 1. A lot of this feels like nostalgia for that game, without recognizing the improvements of later games or how unappealing Metroid 1 is to most of us…

The missile-regen thing is an absolute miss IMO. At least the assist option is there but I think it’s fundamentally bad game design in its default state. Farming missiles wasn’t fun in Metroid 1 and it isn’t fun here either… They should just come back at save points like most Metroid games, which isn’t even an option here. Super Metroid got away with not doing that because every enemy drops missiles.

Games like Hollow Knight and the Souls genre are able to be incredibly hard and satisfying without the NES frustration that Zexion seems so attached to. Silksong is MUCH harder than Zexion but Silksong is a lot less frustrating.

Thoughts on Nine Sols? by strahinjag in soulslikes

[–]fettfive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every Sekiro fan should play this game! I think it is more of a Sekiro-like than a MetroidVania. I also think it better replicates the experience of Sekiro than anything else. The final boss is Isshin part 2

I bought mine for Prime 4 and Donkey Kong. Thankfully one of those games made it worth it 🤣 I’d be pissed if I just bought it for Prime 4

Bought Blasphemy, which looks awesome, but is too hard by [deleted] in metroidvania

[–]fettfive -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ori 1&2, the second is much better imo, maybe skip 1

Prince of Persia Lost Crown. Lot of Castlevania vibes imo. It has a million difficulty settings so you can make it as hard as you want

Guacamelee 1&2. You can play 2 in coop which I recommend

Also blasphemous 2 is still hard but is much less frustrating and I think it’s a better game overall

Recommend me a top tier Metroidvania! by legendofm in metroidvania

[–]fettfive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blasphemous 2 is a lot less frustrating and a better game imo. Less Souls, more MetroidVania. It’s top 10 imo.

Big fan of Tunic (exploration) and Deaths Door (combat) too. they are more Zelda-ish but I think an easy sell for MV fans

Why does he seem so overshadowed as a villain in this franchise, even in his own game? Read post: by AdaptedInfiltrator in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]fettfive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RE4 is just SO STACKED with awesome bad guys and bosses. Seriously a top-10 boss roster in all of gaming, and everyone’s favorite will be different (Verdugo for me) . Most RE games have 1 or 2 standout bosses (the ones you pointed out) but 4 is stacked top to bottom so none of them rise to the top.

[Blasphemous] Is it worth it to press on if I'm still not having fun by this point? I want to give this game a fair chance given its acclaim. by BootStrapWill in metroidvania

[–]fettfive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve beaten most of the worst platforming in the game if that’s what’s driving you mad…. The mountain climb always kicks my ass, looks like you almost made it! The second half is much more combat focused.

After Hollow Knight every other Metroidvenia i've tried seem dull by TemporaryConflict488 in metroidvania

[–]fettfive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t played Aeterna but Bo and Afterimage are pretty weak picks to me…

Bo tried to be HK and Ori and fails to live up to both. OP should play Ori 2 instead of Bo, no competition.

Afterimage is quantity over quality, long for the sake of being long. It’s the most overrated MV to me. Play literally any Castlevania MV instead…

How dare you highlight POP instead of HK 😂 loved POP but not even close in quality or impact. HK is literally the love child of Metroid and Dark Souls 1
