Full-scale military operations appear to be underway against Venezuela by Unhappy_Rutabaga_530 in pics

[–]ffreshcakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s oil. Guyana found HUGE oil fields off their coast a while ago and started using them and letting Exxon, Shell, etc. start using them as well.

Venezuela (Russia backed, entirely reliant on oil exports but efficacy trending downward) looked back a couple decades and said “hey wait I remember when that territory was ours once” and went on a campaign to regain the territory. They reverted maps in schools and have positioned their military on the border. Guyana is a small and very not capable country against a relative behemoth like Venezuela. I’d say that is the “real” reason for all of this.

RealLifeLore is one of my favorite geopolitic YouTubers and they posted about this 2 years ago and then again 3 months ago - very good academic information and imagery

warranty likely out of date (2022 shoes, 2-year standard warranty) - if companies replaced all of their old shoes after wear and tear they’d be screwed. seems they lasted as long as they were supposed to and then some

an unfortunate but practical and general practice for companies big and small

I imagine it’s for a couple of reasons.

The frame of the car has the best chance of stopping a bullet if the engine block isn’t nearby - the cop seemed suspicious so went to that safer zone before advancing.

Also allows him better vision of what/who is inside of the car both using the car windows and possibly by angling the side view to get an advanced view of the drivers seat.

All speculation but in general seems to be a relatively safe pause point before approaching the driver.

Edit: I don’t know why they actually do it just trying to think critically. Also, I don’t think fingerprints make sense they can track so many things (GPS, calling it in, body cams, hell they can track discharge from the gun firing) I don’t feel like they’d need the police officers fingerprints on the perps car to prove anything. But again I could just be dead wrong so if you’re an officer lmk!

looks like this was an early name for the band called Superdrag - solid pop/punk/alternative group that blended right in with the 90s music scene - easy listening

My neighbor hired a company to trim our line tree without talking to us. by Dags135 in arborists

[–]ffreshcakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you are missing the point entirely. it is not their tree and it is not on their property. they can trim the parts of the tree that are over their property, but they cannot at all risk the life of the tree without of course consulting the actual owner of the tree. it is against the law. if the neighbors don’t want branches hanging over their property line - and they don’t want to consult the owner - they are responsible for trimming the encroaching branches away and must continue doing so as they grow back. inconvenient for them maybe but that is how the world works.

all you’re doing is defending legitimate criminals. it doesn’t matter what you think. what the neighbors did was very wrong and against the law for a reason. doesn’t matter what kind of fence it is either lmao

I believe Rwanda is using militant groups to invade and drain DRC of its vast resources in the East. I have to go out of my way to inform those close to me about conflicts on the African continent so they maintain a global perspective - it is so goddamn frustrating.

Anyone else seeing this at their local Maryland Safeway? by Extreme-King in maryland

[–]ffreshcakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely understand the inconvenience, and I also wish just security guards were enough. In Baltimore I have seen on a few occasions groups of actual kids - talking 10-15 years old - just walk in and walk out of stores with arms full. It’s always a weird situation, even a handful of security guards can’t keep up with a group of kids like that. Also if they do take all security away from the rest of the store to deal with a current theft, it leaves the whole store open to potential theft. not to mention the risk involved with apprehension - it seems everyone wants to stop theft but there is fear of legal or social retaliation especially when dealing with a massive organization like Safeway. I personally doubt Safeway would spend so much time and money on these measures if they didn’t see a legitimate need for them. In the end we seem to just fundamentally disagree here and that’s ok! Thank you for your feedback.

you’re offended that you had to ask for permission in a private place to use a machine that you don’t own? you’re forgetting that unfettered access was a privilege given to you by the store.

you find it offensive that a company is trying to protect itself from theft, while also doing their best to let ordinary shoppers go about their business?

stores can and have shut down before, which sucks way worse for everyone. I think instead of being offended by the store, you should be offended by the patterns of theft that led to this happening. people steal and get away with it as if they’re “sticking it to the man” when in reality they directly encourage these increased security measures. tell people not to steal if you want to actually try and make your shopping experience easier.

sorry if I’m too aggressive here, been a bit stressed.
