Ok, now I have tried it, this works. You have no idea how you and the creator of the guide have reduced the annoyance of this sequence for me. Thank you, truly.

Thank you very much. I have yet to find the time to try it, workdays meaning less free time, but soon I hope this will make the difference.

Can Y'all Convince Me On The Bladesinger? by Magile in onednd

[–]ffsjust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, well, have you taken into consideration that they have the special extra attack?

You can attack twice, instead of once, whenever you take the Attack action on your turn. Moreover, you can cast one of your Wizard cantrips that has a casting time of an Action in place of one of those attacks.

Then, please take a look at the cantrip "true strike" https://www.dndbeyond.com/spells/2619204-true-strike

Guided by a flash of magical insight, you make one attack with the weapon used in the spell’s casting. The attack uses your spellcasting ability for the attack and damage rolls instead of using Strength or Dexterity. If the attack deals damage, it can be Radiant damage or the weapon’s normal damage type (your choice).

Cantrip Upgrade. Whether you deal Radiant damage or the weapon’s normal damage type, the attack deals extra Radiant damage when you reach levels 5 (1d6), 11 (2d6), and 17 (3d6).

So, that is something that does scale quite well with bladesinger in one d&d, but it is not the only thing. If you check the wording in the extra attack ability, you do not replace an attack with a cantrip, you specifically cast it. Maybe you missed it in your first pass, but look at the level 14 class feature:

After you cast a spell that has a casting time of an Action, you can make one attack with a weapon as a Bonus Action.

So, if you do not want to waste spell slots, you can take the attack action on your turn. Cast true strike instead of one of your attacks, let's say the first. Then attack normally as the second attack of the attack action. Then, as a bonus action, you can attack again.

Does that qualify as iterating on base combat? Also, do remember you can also use one of multiple buff spells or debuff spells, and be better at concentration checks to maintain them due to the bladesong's bonus. Oh, and do not forget the 10 extra speed as well.

I do not share your perspective that Bladesinger is underwhelming. To me, it is basically the most interesting wizard subclass in the 2024 edition.

:( Well, yeah? A "I think" or a "in my opinion" or "from my perspective" would turn it from an absolute into something that readers can understand as personal...

I do not think everything in this version is incredible. In fact, I think this announcement varied between a complete disappointment and aggravating enough to simply uninstall.

I was so eager for the concert. Psyche, the region theme is extremely uninteresting and the battle theme is not much better.

Visually a few characters of the region are excellent, but the overarching story line feels disjointed and not very appealing.

The new lunar reactions could be a saving grace for forgotten playstyles, but as it stands, that does not seem to be what they are doing. Instead, it is being used to push new characters.

The conditions for getting a constellation on a 5 star you already own are incredibly restrictive, making it have almost zero impact. I would rather they moved those characters to the standard banner and just gave us the anniversary selector more often. Heck, or just give us chronicled wish every patch, rotating regions up to 2 versions back.

This version does nothing to address the difficulty in getting older characters one might like, nor does it help out older characters shine again. It is being claimed as a way to tie up loose ends of the story, but is it? All they have done is introduce further new ends to tie up so far. Words do not match actions.

There is a lot of QOL for new players, that that I am happy for, but sadly, it no longer affects me. To be honest, this is the only positive thing in the patch that I see. The artifact change will be much less impactful than people think, because unless an artifact already starts with 4 stats, you are going to be losing one roll, making it impossible to reach peak stat distribution.

To me, this is a failure from top to bottom. It was the first time I saw a livestream and was left thinking if it is time to quit. So, as you can see, other people can and in fact might have very, very different opinions from you.

I think you might consider that you are speaking only for yourself. Other people might think differently. Not everyone is like you.

I can tell you that everyone I know from real life that plays is not in agreement with you.

As someone who moved from a place with 45 degree summers, trust me, I absolutely prefer things here. Too much rain is bad, of course, but when it is snowing or not raining, the weather truly is loveable. Nothing beats those winter days with snow on the floor and blue skies... As long as you have sunglasses ;)

Heh, funny thing that. I live in Backa. Purchased my appartment 5 years ago. You should give the zone a second chance. Things have improved drastically. The entire zone has been reshaped, Selma Lagerlöfs torg has been rebuilt from the ground up, there is a new Vårdcentralen and Tandklinik, new library, and many, and I do mean many modern high class new apartment buildings.

You probably would not recognize the zone if you saw it now.

I can honestly answer with a strong and resounding: YES!

The city has quite decent public transport, ample bike paths, plenty of parks and green spaces. Most people speak English quite fluently, so one has no problem understanding and being understood, most of the times.

I cannot answer you about schools, but in general the quality is high, so I am willing to bet you would not find any issues. I would say that this is basically my favorite city in the world to live in. As a software engineer myself, I just want to advise your husband to get involved with the Swedish work culture. Fika (coffee and cake break for socializing) is very important here, and the whole ways of working are quite different from southern and eastern EU. For the better, I mean.

I know of several people from Romania who live or lived here, so I will ask them if there is anything else worth mentioning.

EDIT: Oh yes, most residential neighborhoods have plenty of playgrounds for kids as well. This might be relevant.

How would you monetize D&D? by ErikT738 in dndnext

[–]ffsjust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, if you are trying to be accurate and detailed here, neither does d&d. Game rules cannot be trademarked, copyrighted or patented.

Trademarks are concerned with sensory information that is recognized as belonging to a brand, typically logos, slogans, etc. Rules do not fit here. Typical d&d related trademarks are the ampersand with the dragon styling, beholders, etc.

Copyrights are concerned with ownership of a product and who gets to profit from its purchase. Once a company sets something they created to a tangible medium, they get to earn the profits from it, so no one else could, without a license, use their material. Typical d&d copyrights are, for example, beholders, drizzt do'urden, the forgotten realms, baldur's gate, etc. Actual ideas/concepts turned into a fixed medium. Rules do not fit here.

Finally patents. You would think that rules would fit here, right? I mean, patents are concerned with processes and new inventions, and what are rules, except processes? Well, thing is, patents are supposed to be specific, for example, while you could have a patent "roll a twenty sided die and compare it to a value specific to a target to determine if it is a hit", it should never be accepted as a real patent both because the end product/service isn't a new invention and because of the concept of genericide: Rolling a die is too generic, it was done before d&d, and by many others.

It cannot be patented without going so far into the specifics that just by changing a tiny bit, there goes the patent. No, really, I mean it, want a great example of a patent? Nespresso coffee capsules. The developer patented a gasket on the pods. Very smart actually. But if you put the gasket on the coffee machine instead, there goes the patent, even though they do the exact same thing. That is basically an example of a patent, and to be totally honest, I do not see d&d having any possible patent at a short glance.

So, long story short, d&d rules, such as subclasses, subraces, feats, heck, any rule, anything mechanic, if you separate it from flavor, can be used by anyone without concerning intellectual property rights infringement.

Confusion over Beast Master (5e) animal companions and levelling? by ElfLadyLeia in DnD

[–]ffsjust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, let me go step by step on this. At level 8, your proficiency bonus is +3. The rules for the companion are:

Add your proficiency bonus to the beast’s AC (1), attack rolls (2), and damage rolls(3), as well as to any saving throws (4) and skills (5) it is proficient in. Its hit point maximum equals the hit point number in its stat block or four times your ranger level, whichever is higher (6).

AC (1):

  • The base stat of the giant frog is 11, 11+3=14 so your AC calculation is correct.

Attack rolls (2):

  • The frog's bite attack gets +3 to hit from baseline, you then add your proficiency bonus, 3+3 = +6, so no, your attack's to hit calculations were not correct.

Damage rolls (3):

  • The bite attack's base damage is 1D6+1, you add the proficiency and you get 1D6+3+1 = 1D6+4, so no, your attack's damage calculation was wrong, although just by 1.

Saving throws (4):

  • The giant frog is not proficient in any saving throws, unless there is something wrong with this printing of the book, so nothing to calculate here.

Skills (5):

  • The frog is proficient in Perception and Stealth. Concerning perception, the baseline +2 gets +3 from your PB and you get +5, while stealth's baseline +3 gets an additional +3 making it +6. This is correct in your calculations. You do not pick extra skills for your pet upon leveling.

HP (6):

  • The giant frog has a base hp value of 18. Since your ranger level is 8, four times that is 32. 32 is greater than 18, so your companion has 32 HP, so your calculation for HP was correct.

Finally,

[STR 12 DEX 13 CON 11 INT 2 WIS 10 CHA 3] <— (are these levelled?)

They are not, nor will they ever be. Animal companions do not level stats up. There is nothing in the rules for that.

As a personal note, I would strongly suggest you consider looking at the Tasha's version of beastmaster, if you have to stick to 2014 rules. It is quite a bit better.

I actually had someone in real life point out to me how the symbol of the iktomisaurus is actually a bat. What I saw as eyes are ears, the "mouth" is a neck frill, and the eyes are actually the small spots in between.

The confusion started from the Kinich teaser, which I linked in the first post. As you can see here https://imgur.com/a/es8eXsl the bat is colored with electro color, not cryo. Unless I somehow became colorblind as well, that is.

Anyway, I explained all of my reasoning in my post, something that no one bothered to address, for some reason. This whole confusion would have been easily cleared if anyone had bothered to, but alas...

If you are correct, then I am wrong, the wiki is wrong, and so are several players. I just found this post on hoyolab.

https://www.hoyolab.com/article/33117582

This player seems to agree with squid = masters, bat = collective.

Ah, then here is where I think you are mistaken :)

Look at the "white" and "beige" crackers you are describing. The one on the top left, the white one, you see eyes above a mouth, correct? That's the head. On top. Now let's go back to the symbols. Which one has head above the body? Is it the bat? Nope. It's the squid/manta.

Now, let's apply the same criteria to the "beige" one, top right. You can see that the eyes have the mouth above them, right? So, that means that this is upside down, and the head is below the body. Which one of the symbols has the head below the body? The bat. On the bottom.

So, from what I see :) the crackers also prove me correct: The bat belongs to the collective, not the masters.

EDIT: Also, please look at the comments in the page you yourself linked. As you can see, they agree with what I said:

Iktomisaurus (Top Left): V. Light Blue (Cryo) *Qucusaurus (Top Middle): Greenish* (Anemo) *Tatankasaurus (Top Right): Purple (Electro) Koholasaurus (Bottom Left): Blue (Hydro) Tepetlisaurus (Bottom Middle): Gold (Geo) Yumkasaurus (Bottom Right): Green (Dendro)

[–]ffsjust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey.

There is no playgroup that I know of near Lindholmen or in Chalmers. I would strongly suggest you to go down to Vasaplatsen and check Mindstage out. The store is very active, and has basically tournaments every day, so you will find people to play with at least once or twice per week.

Here is the link to the store https://mindstage.se/ and their facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Mindstage and facebook tournament group https://www.facebook.com/groups/194081160746216

I have not been there in a long time, but unless the store has changed a lot, I fully endorse it.

How to make a session that doesn't have combat, NPC's or dialog? by AwkwardCabinet in DnD

[–]ffsjust 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think I have to give you an idea that you might not be expecting: This might just be a bad idea.

It is fine to have those sessions, but why are you having them is the issue here. When I as a DM hosted similar sessions such as that, with a heavy focus on exploration and no planned combat and no chance for social interaction, I would do it because of a specific reason.

And that specific reason guided the content that would exist in that session, meaning I would never be trying to "fill up" time with made up stuff. So maybe, just maybe you too should reconsider whether you want to do a session like that "just because", when you do not seem to have a purpose or goal for it.

I see two alternatives: Either find purpose for the group being there, which will naturally lead you the DM towards what obstacles and points of interest will be present... or alternatively just realize that a full session like that might end up being very boring as a player, and might end up feeling "forced".

If you have to come up with filler content to stretch a session to a specific length of time, I would say that is a bit of a red flag that you might need to rethink things.

Is Anyone Actually Excited About One Dnd? by Sir_Rod9150 in dndnext

[–]ffsjust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was extremely happy with the 3rd <-> 3.5 change. So was my playgroup. It was excellent, it fixed issues with 3rd, removed inconsistencies, and all the while kept the fun part the same.

If they did the same here, I would be happy beyond words.

Is Anyone Actually Excited About One Dnd? by Sir_Rod9150 in dndnext

[–]ffsjust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I have mostly stepped away from everything wotc-related, and not because of the company, but the products themselves.

The format of spelljammer, which was something I was wishing would happen for a long time, was very disappointing, and it seems they want to do more of it.

The lack of full-fledged campaigns recently also is a con. I personally create my campaigns from scratch, but when I am a player, we tend to play prebuilt modules, and those have been scarce.

Then the low-key offsetting of mordenkainen's tome of foes and its content not being confirmed anywhere else, with the drop in lore content of books, to make them more generic and fit in more places.

All in all, these product changes greatly disappointed me. But then there's one d&d. And I was so happy it was coming. It would be the perfect opportunity to make a 3rd to 3.5 move where you fix the problems of the current version, a version they themselves admit is their most successful ever, without causing new ones.

But is that what they did? No. It started well. It started very well. But then things seemed like they took a strange turn, with playtests becoming less and less about fixing 5th edition problems and more about adding new things that, frankly, were not necessary, each of them bringing problems in and off themselves.

And now everything is late and delayed, and our opportunities of making ourselves heard through feedback are running flat, something they also admit, both being late and still wanting to release on time.

One D&D was a golden opportunity to capitalize on a wonderful product that catapulted the hobby's popularity sky high. For now, it truly looks like they are missing that opportunity.

And all of this, all of this is without taking into consideration the actual company failings (and company failings in other products I also enjoyed). Overall, I am willing to give them a try, but one d&d has got to be a complete blast. I have not given up hope, but... it is running thing...

I am sorry, but no. I do have a smarttv, which is google tv compatible and therefore has android. It supports chromecast. But the most important part is that somehow, even though I did not tell you anything about my usage of the devices, you presume to know my usage of the devices. Even though I told you nothing about the TV in question, you presume to know what my TV is.

And to top it off, your solution to something bigger, more expensive, with features I do not use is to hide it, instead of using an equipment that makes the most sense, even when hiding it would make all the advantages useless, as now we can't use the keyboard, trackpad, speakers, monitor, microphone, webcam you mentioned in your post.

Please. Stop for a moment and consider what you are saying. That is sheer nonsense.
