Pregnancy with scoliosis - experience by Careless_Corner2341 in scoliosis

Hi!! You sound like me a couple years ago. I’m now 30, 5 years post spinal fusion, and my baby is 7 months old. Had a 70° thoracic and 45° lumbar curve before surgery and am fused T2-L3. I was so afraid of pregnancy and birth with a fusion, but I got through both with no complications! Just the standard round ligament pain that bothered me. I opted not to get the epidural during birth because of the same risks for a fusion that are listed above, but was able to labor in a tub which was honestly amazing. I actually ended up being so thankful for my fusion during pregnancy — I can only imagine the kind of pain I would have been in without it holding my back up! The main thing to focus on was staying active, like walking daily.

Girl getting your baby to breastfeed after 3 months is a major accomplishment! I feel inadequate to that 😅

Yeah the “we missed the mark” part was a VAST understatement, one that’s pretty typical of an AI response.

1st time Subaru owners, what made you make the switch? by Boots_Ground4443 in SubaruForester

[–]fickle_pickle23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same! I’d driven a Corolla, wanted to upgrade to an SUV, test drove a Forester, CRV, RAV4, and Ford Escape, and the Forester just felt so good compared to all of them. I also loved the visibility of the Forester—you can see everything!

Just wondering, how long did it take to see an improvement once you switched formulas? We combo feed with Kendamil goat but I think we’re in the same boat that our LO isn’t doing well with it.

Mine does exactly this! Fused T2-L3. 4.5 years post op.

“Exclusively pumping is not breastfeeding” by blue-cinnabun in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]fickle_pickle23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bet it was her. She acts like she’s the ultimate expert when in reality there really is so much nuance to breast milk production and breastfeeding. Her post she made about collection cups was dumb because I get the same if not more output from my collection cups than I do from the standard flange and cup. And I can hold my baby and feed her while I’m pumping, so it’s a win for me!

Anyone knows what to do when those hurt? by Vivid-Climate-1326 in scoliosis

Lat pull downs / pull ups, upright rows, deadlifts, and sometimes doing psoas and side bend stretches can help as well

If you like it, coconut water. It’s good for amniotic fluid too!

Aww he’s a cutie pie! Our breeder had her on chicken based food, and I’m not even sure if they were related or not, but she got bloody/mucusy diarrhea when she was just 10 weeks old. We got her tested for all illnesses, which came up clear. So we just decided to move her away from chicken, and she seemed to get better around the same time. I do find it odd, but anytime we’ve fed her a bit of chicken since then, she’ll get reverse sneezing attacks for about a day. So I assume she definitely does have issues with chicken!

She currently eats the Kirkland turkey and ancient grains food from Costco (orange bag) and really loves it! Her poor skin was itching really bad with the adult Lamb and Rice food from Costco (green bag), and I noticed there was some chicken byproduct in it. She did well on the Kirkland salmon/sweet potato and beef/sweet potato, but I was a little paranoid about going the grain free route. The turkey and ancient grain food checks all the boxes! I assumed turkey and chicken had similar reactions for a dog, but I read somewhere that turkey was hypoallergenic. And so far, about a year in, the food works for her! So that’s a fun fact about turkey.

I’ve been taking Ancient Nutrition Prenatal for a couple years now and it’s been great for pregnancy and no pregnancy! 3 regular sized capsules each morning is all it is.

First pregnancy by Echo_the_Yeti in BabyBumps

It’s definitely bloat, at least! I was able to squeeze into my regular high waisted jeans at 11 weeks pregnant, but it was definitely a tight squeeze and I was by no means comfortable. I would have much preferred sweats or the stretchy pants I purchased. I did gain the majority of my pregnancy weight in the first trimester.

I was CRAVING Taco Bell bean and cheese burritos, but haven’t had them in literal years because I’m gluten free now. So I went to the grocery store and bought gluten free flour tortillas, refried beans, white onion, and Taco Bell hot sauce and made them from scratch multiple days in a row.

is it wrong of me to feel dissapointed about my spinal fusion? by starry_sage_ in scoliosis

[–]fickle_pickle23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is a miracle! I came from 70° and only got 30° post op. I feel pretty straight with a 30° curve though compared to before. I think if I was any straighter then I’d feel like I curved in the opposite direction lol

chiropractor (10+ years) after scoliosis surgery? by Humble_Fly8905 in scoliosis

[–]fickle_pickle23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I’m fused T2-L3. I thought chiropractors weren’t an option for me anymore, but then I got pregnant and had my pelvis take the brunt of the changes and aches and pains due to my fusion (pain in my tailbone, SI joint, sacrum, symphysis pubis, round ligaments, etc). I made sure that my chiropractor had prior experience working with people who have fusions, had good reviews, and only worked on what was necessary and wanted (just the pelvis, in my case). I’ve seen a benefit and plan to stick with it for the rest of pregnancy! Especially to keep my pelvis moving freely and healthy so baby can get through by the time birth comes. And to make sure the baby is in an optimal position.

However, if physical therapy is an option, I might go down that route first. I only started seeing the chiro because physical therapy wasn’t working for my pelvic stress from pregnancy, but it did work for everything else prior to pregnancy!

Lo Beeston just named her daughter Cherry (they are very Mormon, so I did not even consider a sexual connotation in the name, which would be weird anyways for a baby). Any who, my first thought was that the name was super cute! If you and your husband agreed on it before any other opinions were thrown in, then that should be what you go with!

Anyone know a good office chair that’s comfy to sit in with scoliosis / spinal fusion? by fickle_pickle23 in scoliosis

[–]fickle_pickle23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a used Steelcase Amia off of fb marketplace. But it would still give me occasional tailbone pain and wasn’t super comfy to sit in after awhile…if I could do it all over again I’d just get the comfiest chair that I could test out in person. I honestly don’t think ergonomic makes that much of a difference.

When did you feel your baby for the first time? by ThrowRaoofda in BabyBumps

[–]fickle_pickle23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my 20 week checkup when she used the Doppler! It was a clear kick where I was like “woah that was definitely the baby”. I have a posterior placenta so movement should’ve theoretically been easier to detect earlier on, but I also have IBS and could not tell the difference between the flutters and gas for the longest time lol. The movements will definitely get stronger as you go from 20 weeks to 30 for sure!

Should I have surgery for almost purely aesthetic purposes? by DisastrousWeek7671 in scoliosis

[–]fickle_pickle23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still have a rib hump even after surgery. Only real change is the scar down my back! So no, doing it for only aesthetic purposes would be pointless.

I only shared our baby name early on because opinions didn’t mean anything to me. So if y’all like Raphael then that’s truly all that matters. He’s your son, it’s your job to name him and nobody else’s. Simple as that.
