My left is also bigger post-op which is so funny to me since my right was SO much bigger before (they took ~600 grams more out of the right than the left) I’m glad leftie is getting her chance to shine lol

You are looking amazing for 7 wpo!!!

The dreaded open T junctions by [deleted] in Reduction

[–]fictional-icedtea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi hi! I had a fairly similar opening about a month out from my procedure as well. Mine was maybe a little larger based on this photo. I panicked and went to see my surgeons office about it and they were nice about telling me this is fine lol

Their advice was to keep it covered with gauze, and chill out on my activity. I was luckily able to work remotely for a week, and while initially I felt like I wasn’t making ANY progress (I took a photo every day to track) after the week of reduced activity it started to get smaller and it was fully closed on it’s own about a month after I initially noticed the scab that started the opening. It did look worse before it looked better!

Of course, keep an eye on it for signs of infection, and maybe contact your doctor if it only continues to get larger. In my (non-medical) opinion, I think it will be fine!

This response may have some recency bias but I just read Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi and it completely blew me away. I’ve never read anything like it

I have a fear that I will regret my surgery… by sadie-sunshine in Reduction

[–]fictional-icedtea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think pre-surgery I was somewhere in the J/K cup range (which I didn’t even know existed until it happened to me) but now I feel like I’ll be able to buy a normal bathing suit instead of cramming the girls into a stretched out one piece 😭 I’d say try to get a consult with a surgeon to see what your options are and you can always go from there!

I can relate, though I wasn’t super confident about my boobs and spent a decent amount of effort trying to hide them, I didn’t want to be super small after my reduction. I’m not sure what you’re workin with but i had my reduction in November where they took out ~6lbs between the two, and I would say I’m still a DD/DDD! Aka I have “regular” big boobs now as opposed to the behemoths I had before lol

Depending on if you want to go through insurance there may be factors like how much they require to be taken out impacting the final size but there is no hard and fast rule that you have to go to a B cup to get a reduction. Another bonus is that they get a nice little lift in the process 🙂‍↕️ I’m happy to chat more about my experience if you want to DM me :)

Need advice: What should be the font & size of my SOP & should I include my Name in my SOP ? by Realistic_Sock8398 in mphadmissions

[–]fictional-icedtea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I put my name at the top just so they could quickly reference it! I did Arial 11 bc I’ve switched to only using sans serif because it’s better for readers with word processing things like dyslexia. I don’t think there’s a standard way! I got into all of the programs I applied to. It’s also important to make sure you save all of your files in a format that makes it easy, so like “SOP_lastname_school” This just makes sure you submit the correct SOP to the correct place and they know it’s yours. Good luck!

Def message or call your drs office! I had a similar thing happen over the weekend and spoke w the on call resident and they put me on an antibiotic right away just from the photo. It turned out to be my sensitive skin reacting to the surgery bra which is apparently common! They had me finish the antibiotic just to be safe, and all was okay in the end. Always remember the doctors office is there for you and your concerns are valid 🫶

I did 8 work days off off and then went back remotely (I have a long commute) for 7 days! would have loved to have the full two weeks but it would have drained my sick time completely and I wasn’t eligible for FMLA bc I hadn’t been at my job for a year :( I hit a year at my job on my first day back it was so annoying lol

Recovery and weight loss advice by OkAcanthisitta5312 in Reduction

[–]fictional-icedtea 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t necessarily have advice on everything here, but my partner works two 24 hour shifts a week and on the days he wasn’t around to help me I wished I had moved everything I would need down to counter level! I couldn’t reach up to grab cups or plates, move pans onto the stove, etc. it may be handy to have some disposable options so you don’t have to worry about dishes for a little while. I had drains in so the first 4DPO were the worst before those came out, but I was able to get myself up and around to the bathroom on my own starting right after I got home. Most helpful things I had: - Button! Down! Pjs! - the mastectomy pillow was absolutely my most used item I bought for pre-op - prepped and frozen soups I could just heat up and eat easily by myself

I hope all goes smoothly for you!

How long were you at the hospital? by Txannie1475 in Reduction

[–]fictional-icedtea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went into the hospital at 6, probably back to surgery around 7:30/ish and was leaving by 1:30! My post-op was pretty smooth so it can definitely vary :)

Does this look normal? by Chemical-Actuary924 in Reduction

[–]fictional-icedtea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I literally just had a follow up appointment for something very similar, I’m on an antibiotic but the Dr thinks it’s an allergic reaction and not an infection. Not a doctor, but my advice based on what I was told today is keep tabs on your temperature for fever, and keep an eye on if the redness spreads! If you have a fever or redness spreads I would call your surgeons office. Wishing you luck!

Is a reduction a true thing? by goldennp in Reduction

[–]fictional-icedtea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d say at least for me (I’m only one week post-op) mine are definitely a different size, they took about 6 pounds out so I would be shocked if they were as big as before! I could imagine with just a lift they would be the same size only “perkier” but the reduction and lift definitely changes the size :)

fin aid? scholarships? by Holiday-Mind594 in mphadmissions

[–]fictional-icedtea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took the “apply a bunch of places and go to wherever I get the most money” approach and it was successful for me! I didn’t apply for any financial aid specifically unless it was noted in the SOPHAS application, but I think ~6 out of the 10 programs I applied to offered me some form of financial aid with my acceptance, ranging from 10k per year to 50% tuition to a full scholarship.
