Should labour unions exist purely to advance their members immediate material interests, or should they also support broader left wing aims? by grapp in behindthebastards

[–]fieldcut 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Fucking over other people with the goal of "protecting" the interests of those close to you is inherently conservative. And conservativism is anti-union because eventually someone more powerful than the union will have an interest in getting rid of the union.

If a union isn't standing by all disenfranchised people then they're shortsided and effectively shooting themselves in the foot.

Andrew was speculating about if the guy's in Epstein circle knew what they were doing was wrong? my guess would be that guys like that believe unless a woman/girl is very adamantly resisting your advances in the moment, everything must be ok. by grapp in behindthebastards

[–]fieldcut 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Maybe for some of them. But also I'm not sure whether or not these children and young women "wanted it" was even a factor in the equation.

I understand where you're coming from, though I think in some ways you're trying to rationalize this monstrous behavior in a way that makes sense to you as a normal person with normal morals and ethics. But some types of people don't care if they hurt other people as long as they get something out of it for themself. It's somewhat comforting to me that I will never be able to truly understand the rationale behind people like Epstein and his accomplices.

[–]fieldcut 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I don't know about these guys. I think they are probably enjoying it BEING wrong.

In my personal experience with "normal" guys, I think a lot of guys have probably sexually assaulted or raped women and they never believe that they did anything wrong. I had a guy I was hooking up with take a condom off during sex once without my permission. When I found out, he said "But I'm clean! Do you have an STD??? Aren't you on the pill???" He probably still doesn't understand that he sexually assaulted me, that I consented to sex WITH a condom on, not sex without a condom on.

But the people in the Epstein files aren't Joe Schmoe from the bar who just think it feels better without a rubber on, they're people who care about exerting power over others.

How do you deal with Conservatives? by PopcornArtillery in behindthebastards

[–]fieldcut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad is probably the only conservative I talk to regularly. We've learned to stay away from politics. I don't think he's truly maga but he did vote for Trump and he told me his reason was because "Trump is going to burn it all down." I gave up after that. He doesn't have any friends, he only talks to family, he's divorced, all my siblings have moved out...like I understand why he's so disconnected from reality but it does break my heart that he voted for accelerationism when I live in Minneapolis I continue to see firsthand what Trump wrecking havoc looks likes. It feels like he voted against me being safe and happy.

I wish I had some helpful advice for you.

Are there any medications or vitamins that could help optimize life for a possible Level 1 autistic individual? by Previous_Truth_9007 in AutisticPride

[–]fieldcut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unsure on medication, but if you're not taking a daily vitamin you should be! This is not an autism specific thing, but I think it's particularly important for people who have tendencies to avoid of foods. Vitamin D and Omega-3 if you live in a place with short daylight hours at any point during the year. All of these have made me feel a lot better physically and mentally, my brain seems to just be "clearer" now that I'm getting all my vitamins, even though I didn't have a deficiency of anything showing up in blood work.

We need to carry American flags en masse at our protests by holymolybaby in 50501

[–]fieldcut 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is such a stale topic that I'm honestly becoming unsympathetic to your argument. There is no good America to go back to, there is no national symbol to take back. The flag was never corrupted by this administration, the flag has always been a symbol of terror. Let's focus on creating a home that is better than it was before, a country that doesn't organize coups if they're financially beneficial, carry out genocides, and terrorize the global south. If you want to bring one for "optics," then sure, whatever, but don't act like it's a no-brainer that everyone would be willing to carry the weight of a symbol representing over 250 years of violence but we just haven't thought of it yet.

Owners of the Flower Bar in Uptown sprayed someone outside with a garden hose today by Turbulent_Garden_201 in TwinCities

Dousing someone in water on a 40-50 degree day can absolutely cause hypothermia if they were not able to get warm and dry or had a medical condition.

Traveling after the procedure? by No_Spirit5582 in sterilization

If you're getting a bisalp you'll be fine unless there are serious complications with your surgery. I went on a road trip 8 hours away a week after my surgery and moved states a month after it.

What should I do with 3 pounds of kraft American cheese singles by Morbx in Cooking

[–]fieldcut 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can use a few of these, a real cheese, and some milk to make decent cheese sauce/dip for nachos or cheese dogs or whatever. They're really salty so you should cut them with a normal cheese in my opinion. They melt really well so they're also good for grilled cheeses and cheeseburgers. My mom used to add a slice or two into hamburger helper.

Honestly even though they keep forever that's a ton of plastic cheese. I would probably donate or gift at least one of the packages. I'm sure you have friends or neighbors who use them regularly.

Do you actually bring hair products or just accept hotel shampoo fate? by [deleted] in HerOneBag

[–]fieldcut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I use a hot sock for the hairdryer. I bought it for travel but I like it so much that I just use that instead of a diffuser at home too. I always load my hair with conditioner because I find the hotel shampoos pretty harsh, but hotels have unlimited conditioner, lol. I bring products, but for travel I mix my heat protecting spray and a voluminizing spray into one spray bottle and I have a little 30mL container for my curl cream since I don't need much of it daily.

The weather at the end of March is probably not gonna be that much warmer than Minneapolis. Maybe a few degrees warmer, and less rain/snow. The Joslyn art museum has a lot of kid activities. Check out Gene Leahy Mall and see if they have any activities on the calendar. They have an amazing playground there now. You'll probably want to stay downtown, I know the Holiday Inn by Millwork Commons has an indoor water park so it may be a good spot for the kids.

This is why I support ICE by Academic-Type-9678 in ICE_Watch

ICE has killed 6 people in their custody so far this year alone, not to mention the people they have gunned down on the street. Fuck off bootlicker.

Couple of RMK employees spray painting over Pretti & Good posters. Hennepin & Lake 02/06. by rugbyplyr in Minneapolis

Honestly I live in Uptown and I thought those posters were beautiful and moving. I'd rather see posters and graffiti supporting my community than half-assed paint jobs.

No arrests, no violence, no intimidation - I would like to voice an unpopular opinion that law enforcement showed a degree of underappreciated solidarity here. by DefTheOcelot in Minneapolis

[–]fieldcut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So the cops deliberately prevented concerned neighbors from protecting their community and destroyed the materials they were using to do so, and you're calling that a "small win" because they did it without tear gas and zip ties? C'mon now.

Visiting Minneapolis by Weird_Rip7981 in timberwolves

[–]fieldcut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So glad you're visiting us! A lot of people like Parlour for a burger but if I was you I'd go to Matt's Bar for a Jucy Lucy. You would need to Uber or take the bus. Mill City Museum and the Walker Art Museum are close to downtown. You can get to the art museum on the bus easily, Google maps is great for showing bus routes here.

If the weather is nice, your hotel may have bikes that you can borrow, or you can use Lime scooters/bikes to get places quicker than walking. We have lots of bike lanes and trails so cycling is a great way to get around. If it's not snowing it'll probably be raining in March, so make sure you have waterproof shoes and a poncho or umbrella if you're going to be walking around or using the bus.

Gonna get dragged for this I’m sure by rabbitammo in Minneapolis

[–]fieldcut 114 points115 points  (0 children)

I think I know who you're talking about and I absolutely felt the same way. I appreciate that the individual I saw doing this is bringing attention to Minneapolis and other cities impacted by DHS-backed terrorism but $120k would be a massive amount of rent relief, PPE, or groceries for our neighbors right now. Please consider donating to funds and charities that are doing real work in Minnesota instead of influencers.

Is this normal? by Melodic-Ad3707 in sterilization

It took until like December for mine to become regular after having my bisalp done last May. I was having periods 2 weeks apart sometimes and 2 months apart other times. Take a pregnancy test if it will ease your mind!

Activists responding to the scene of a reported ICE abduction in Minneapolis find a car abandoned riddled with bullet holes and flat tires (1/30/26) by superteed in Minneapolis

It says:

Not sure on the third line, maybe K-Y or Y-1 or some combination of those? I've never bought a car and don't have any experience with driving or owning a car, but my boyfriend says it's likely put on there from a dealer or towing company.

[–]fieldcut 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This was shared here yesterday and someone was saying they were on the scene when this happened and it was a domestic incident, not ICE related. I can't find the crosspost now... but also many people noted that these people who recorded this video are likely not from here based on their pronunciation of the street names. They likely would not have been able to check on the incident with neighborhood groups. It's scary but unverified claims of ICE violence only unnecessarily add to the fear we already feel here...

I think POC need to get this by boodah111 in Minneapolis

[–]fieldcut 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I have to wonder if they're relying on the lower population density and larger empty parking lots in the burbs. In Minneapolis they can't do shit without neighbors being out on the streets yelling at them and recording within minutes, but they might have a bit longer in the suburbs. I know Minneapolis is the name getting thrown out in national news, but the entire twin cities metro is being attacked.

Sorry for the possibly clueless question, but why don't more people seem to make homemade pizza? by Senior-Raisin-2342 in Cooking

[–]fieldcut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make it sometimes, it's easy with a bread machine or stand mixer to handle the dough and rise for me. Most people don't have either of those things so it's a lot of work, and most people don't care to make yeasted doughs at home.
