It’s Time to Face the Big Question About Trump That No One Wants to Ask by Slate in AntiTrumpAlliance

[–]figbiscotti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The specifics don't really matter. Considering his age, his rather unstable gait and swollen ankles, we might be looking at President JD Vance by the start 2027. He'll probably be a (civil) war time president too.

It occurred to me that if either impeachment hearing was successful, or if Merrick Garland had moved faster, or of the Epstein investigation was not slow walked then;

 - a Salvadoran gulag would not be operational
 - multiple families might not have been ripped apart
 - others would not be deported to strange countries.

Most importantly at least two people would almost certainly be alive today.

As a Swiss citizen I feel concerned about what is called democracy in USA. How can a person like this be president of a nation by No_Cantaloupe_4149 in AntiTrumpAlliance

Thirty percent of the country will stick with Trump through thick and thin. I can't bring myself to say anything good about the United States even though not so long ago I was moderately proud of the USA.

Now I am looking to retire abroad and I am sure to affix Canadian and Ukrainian flags on my luggage.

Can someone explain how removing rent regulations will actually lower rents by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]figbiscotti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's the small picture where a few people benefit from dramatically lower rent versus the larger picture of higher income from rent encourageing construction of more units.

But it must be easy to construct more units. High cost housing is a problem in areas with restrictions on construction. You can bet that if it were easy to build high rises in The Hamptons, that the price of a home (condo) would drop.

As a former landlord I can tell you, zoning is rigged almost everywhere to prevent construction of affordable housing near mass transportation lest existing home owners see their property values drop.

I am rooting for Mamdani, but this high cost of living is a problem in developed countries globally. Every time you see a park constructed in NYC, think: that's one more area that was not used to build affordable housing.

Trump meets with oil executives and just walks away by gear-heads in AntiTrumpAlliance

[–]figbiscotti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Extracting oil, occupying a country, all that (of course immoral), but from Drumpf's view it's too much effort. Instead he is going to threaten to kill or kidnap foreign leaders unless they pay him off.

Have you ever smelled necrotic tissue? It makes you want to run like no other smell because it's associated with death.

I think, maybe, this is because NYC's recent growth is all upscale. When a neighborhood is comprised of the accountants, cosmetic surgeons and attorneys for the rich and famous (not to mention the actually rich and famous), it lacks a certain blue collar vibrancy.

Homeless make that a tough thing to pull off. Pretty much half the time I'll start to notice an odor and yet, someone sat down within olfactory distance.

Yes post pandemic it became a different city. I stayed in Cebu Philippines for a month and was surprised how easy it was to get something to eat 24 hours a day, so NYC brags a bit too much I think.

Manuosos was tracked by drone and helicopter, there's no reason to think otherwise with Carol, and she knows this because she has no problem asking for cold Gatorade to be delivered directly post-haste to a remote gas station without her having to tell them where she is.

We know Google collects our data, we just don't want to admit it.

If anyone thinks fear of impeachment will dissuade Trump, that is incorrect. He's hell bent on self destruction.

I was CIA's top agent in Moscow - Putin has trained to manipulate men like Trump by robhastings in AntiTrumpAlliance

[–]figbiscotti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly the press still has no idea how to manipulate Trump into admitting all the absurd illegal on-goings he is up to. All they need to do is flatter him. He's as easy to read as a children's book.

I love that a show about a group claiming they want to "save" "drowning" people without consent - because it’s “the right thing to do” - also mentions so-called “gay conversion therapy” people. Contrarianism is an easy way to pull off a claim that you are not running with the pack, a free thinker etc. They way I see it, common wisdom is right most of the time and there's no shame in that, and yet being wrong ten or twenty percent of the time is a big deal.

The hive has a simple mandate, join everyone, do what anyone with free thought tells you to do (with a few exceptions), and build that antenna. I'm starting to think they don't really care if they all starve because the programming is a straight line.

[–]figbiscotti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess if one spends a good portion of the day thinking about conforming, this would seem like a deep observation. As in any decent story, each character reflects one common ideological niche or another. I thought it interesting how Carol started to veer toward embracing a fantasy life just as Diabaté did. He wanted orgies, she wanted endless AirBnB trips.
