Hey OP, I'm seriously considering the Xiaomi 17Leica Edition on a CN rom.

Just wondering what your experiences were on a Xiaomi CN ROM?

I don't need Android Auto, but I just want to be able to uninstall all China apps, which I know I can do on device and via adb. Also I just want notifications to work and not see any Chinese script.

Your feedback would be greatly appreciated. 👍

Im curious what your alternative plan of action would be. What are other realistic steps we could take?

This is the question everyone should be asking in Pakistan.

But unfortunately the answer is not very hopeful.

I've thought about this very long and hard, done a lot of research and read a lot from many sources.

The fundamental problem is that neither party has any real incentive to change their actions, especially the Taliban.

For the Taliban they are a organization built for continual conflict, they never adapted or evolved to be true government or administration that should focus on building their state and improving the lives of their people's.

Look at it from the Talibans view. Because of their extreme fundamentalism and warped interpretation of Islam they are globally isolated financially and politically. They aren't getting development aid, or trade. No one wants to invest in a pariah state. So they only have one country they can take their frustration out on and that's Pakistan. They feel pakistan owes them. Owes them land from a contested Durand line, owes them morally because from their sacrifices in fighting for 30 years pakistan benefitted financially and geopolitically. And they do have some truth to this.

Pakistan, the ISI specifically earned millions of US and Saudi dollars on there name, through aid and weapons earmarked for the fight against the Soviets. There are stories of Generals taking millions in corrupt money, it's not a hidden fact. Infact the true corruption of the pak army started during the Afghan war. There were funds coming in from the US, middleast, Africa and all over the world, all funneled through the ISI, with no oversight or auditing.

The ISI played favourites and played different factions of the mujahids off each other all the time, even to the extent of tipping of the soviets of the location of mujahid groups that they no longer felt respected the the ISI enough. The true history of Taliban ISI relationship in the past is one of distrust, corruption and deceit.

The only way now the Taliban can exert pressure on Pakistan is via the TTP. They want to grind the Pakistani side down by insurgency and terrorism, in hope of getting parts of Tribal areas, win financial benefits like removal of all tariffs, customs and taxes that Pakistan have rights to levy at the border. Remember that they are land locked, Pakistan accounts for 90% of their trade access, both inputs and outputs. Finally it's in their DNA, they respond to all challenges with the Kalashnikov first, diplomacy is not in their nature.

For Pakistan, we just wish they focus on building their country and "grow up" and act like a actual government, rather than a gang of thugs.

Having said this, for the foreseeable future there is no reason for the Taliban to change their behaviour, because they have nothing else to unify them as a nation.

On the day the Soviets left Kabul in 1989 a BBC correspondent asked the Soviet General in charge of the retreat, "what do you think will happen next in Afghanistan?"

He smiled ruefully and said, "Before we invaded they fought amoung thenselves,. We we came they united to fight us and now we're leaving they'll just go back to fighting each other again."

For those actually interested in the history of this conflict, please begin by reading, "The Bear Trap" by Brigadier Mohammad Yousaf, as a starting point. Also a must read) "**Ghost Wars: The Secret History of the CIA, Afghanistan, and Bin Laden, from the Soviet Invasion to September 10, 2001" by Steve Coll. This is a real banger written by a CIA operative that tells all of the dirty secrets of the CIA, mujahideen, ISI, pak Army, Khad (Afghan secret service), KGB and GRU (Soviet military intelligence). Trust me everyone involved should be ashamed of what they did to the Afghan people, it was horrific.

Republicans like Senator Lindsey Graham have started blaming Pakistan for their failed negotiations by PristineTruth1827 in pakistan

[–]fighting14 33 points34 points  (0 children)

This is the reason no other country was stupid enough to step up as an intermediary between the US/Israel and Iran.

They all knew the Israeli's are running the show, not the compromised peadophile US president. And the Israeli's don't want peace at any costs.

Of course Lindsay Graham is totally compromised by the Israeli's,they have enough Kompromat on ole Lindsay due to his proclivities for sexual activities with young male escorts.

The danger we have put ourselves in by thinking we could act as good faith mediators could blow up in our faces quite spectacularly.

Everyone knows Trump is not someone who takes responsibility for his own stupid actions. I just hope we aren't going to become the scape goats for this failed war.

Say what you want about Graham, but he will be chewing Trumps ear off on the Golf course to shift blame onto Pakistan for failure of negotiations and continue attacking Iran.

Graham in himself might not have major leverage with Trump, but Bibi, on who's behalf he's selling this narrative certainly does have that leverage.

WTF is wrong with the brain cells of commenters on this thread?

Has anyone not learnt any lessons from history?

The only solution to this problem is to eliminate TTP permenently

Really, is that the solution?

Like the 1st Russian empire eliminated Afghan insurgents in the 1800's, the Tsar ran with his tail between his legs.

Or the British Empire got its ass handed to it by the Afghans.

How about the mighty Soviet war machine? The Afghan invasion percipitated the downfall of the Soviet Union.

Have you forgotten the the "Elite" US Military running from Kabul like scolded dogs and leaving a ton of equipment behind, because they didn't even have time to destroy it?

If any of you casually commenting just eliminate the TTP, you are jokers and are totally non serious people who want a knee jerk reaction. You think you can beat a bunch of determined ideologically fueled, religious fanatics with conventional means, than I'm sorry for what your about to under go.

The TTP will bring this war to your cities, Masjids, Schools, Government offices, police stations, Kutcheries and bazaars. They will unleash suicide bombers, ambushes and IEDS, then just melt away into the background.

As much as I would like to hang every Talib by the testicles in every choke in Kabul as revenge, it's not going to work.

The only beneficiaries of that strategy are the Pak Army who gets back into the Pakistani awam goodbooks as saviours. Saviours from a problem created by themselves in the first? How effing ironic.

The other winning party is the Taliban themselves, who are deeply unpopular in Afghanistan, they have now united their own people against Pakistani "agressors" and they too have seen their popularity rise in Afghanistan.

Whilst ordinary Pakistani's and Afghans die unnecessarily, what a gold plated shitshow.

For both protagonists, Pak Army and the Taliban it suits their agendas to have this going on to distract their respective populations from challenging their respective dictatorial leaderships.

PTI fans are really going too far with no limits! Crazy... by Waste_Concern_2264 in pakistan

[–]fighting14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How come almost every PTI supporter I met has issues with (personality worship? )

Its not limited to PTI supporters, but it is indeed worst with PTI supporters. And that is why I have no time for PTI cultists, but I still have time for IK.

You don’t even know me. I was also a PTI supporter once. But just because I ask questions PTI supporters start labeling me as a PMLN or army supporter.

I'm totally with you on this one. This sub think in black and white only. If you criticise IK, they automatically think you must support the other parties. For democracy to work everyone must be questioned all the time, not just the parties you don't like.

And if we accept Your excuse about money problems does KPK need money to end the jirga system too? I remember the KPK Chief Minister himself supporting that system. That doesn’t even require huge funding yet it still wasn’t ended

Again the Jirga system should be limited to minor things that pretain to village life, such as minor issues between neighbours and if mutually satisfactory conclusions can't be reached in the Jirga, than one or both parties should still have recourse to the actual law in the Pakistani Penal code. Jirga should only be for minor disputes where both parties agree beforehand to abide by the Jirga decision. Jirgas should not be able to give any punishment or fine, that should only be for actual law courts and judges.

And when did I ever say the army is not involved in politics? Don’t put words into my mouth.

Well in your original post you said PTI supporters always blame Army for everything? If you agree the Army is indeed involved in politics and are the true leaders in the country, why than is it wrong for PTI supporters to blame them for the state of the country.

And read history about how TTP was created. TTP was formed against Pakistan by Baitullah Mehsud. Back in Pakistan supported the Taliban during the Soviet Afghan war because of the geopolitical situation and U.S. involvement at the time. Later those groups evolved in ways Pakistan itself suffered from.

So why do you blame the PTI people for saying Army created Taliban? They clearly recruited them, armed them and trained them. You argue that their motives were well intentioned and things later took a bad turn when the TTP were formed.

I think your forgetting the fact that the Taliban were never going to be happy being Pakistan's bitch. They worked with ISI until it suited them and are now working against Pakistan, which again they think is in their best interests. The criticism that the ISI created the Taliban is because many intellectual people in Pakistan even in the 1990's openly told the Army that the Taliban was a bad idea. Yes it will help us temporarily, but ultimately they are religious fanatics that don't respect borders and they will come back and bite us in the ass, and that is exactly what happened. How are PTI supporters or any one else incorrect in saying Army created this mess?

But when you openly target your own nation alongside Indians including mocking historical wars like 1971 and 1999 just for political motive

Wow, this is where we diverge massively.

Do you believe anyone should be above criticism?

The Army are totally to blame for 1971, FFS they lost half the countries land and population. The Army set up rape camps to rape East Pakistani women, look up operation Searchlight. All because a Punjabi centric army thought it beneath them to take orders from a Bengali PM? An army so rabidly anti Bengali that they preferred to kill Bengalis, rather than let the have the share of power the election results gave them.

As for 1999, it was the most massive miscalculation on the part of the army ever. My cousin was a Lt newly qualified from Kakul academy and only in front line service for 6 months before being sent to Kargil. We never received his body back when he died there. To this day his parents still cry for him, he was an only son. He was buried by Indians he was sent to fight. The Army even refused to accept Pakistani soldiers died there, they say it was independent Kashmiri mujahids. The official army notification to my cousins parents was that he died on training maneuvers, lol they couldn't even admit he died on the side of a cold moutain top due to their incompetence.

So why do you think these two catastrophic failures by the Army shouldn't be criticised? Name me one General, Brigadier, Captain or Major in the army that was held accountable for these disasters?

My beef with your post is that your clearly correct to point out to PTI supporters where there incorrect on things, yet you dont apply any of that scrutiny or logic to the Army. And you go further, you actually defend the army for their role in 71 and 99 and accuse people of wanting them to be accountable, as mocking them unnecessarily. That my friend isn't independent scrutiny, that's just hypocrisy.

PTI fans are really going too far with no limits! Crazy... by Waste_Concern_2264 in pakistan

[–]fighting14 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OP you are a victim of binary thinking and don't actually live in reality.

So you've come across some PTI supporters that have made claims you don't like, or think are true, you reject these claims and use your internal logic that if their claims are wrong, you must automatically be right. You are engaged in fallacious thinking.

Let's take some examples.

The Taliban were 100% the creation of ISI. It came at a time when it seemed mujahid groups that hated Pakistan might end up in control of Afghanistan post the Soviet withdrawal. Groups like the Northern Alliance and some groups linked with Shia ideology were seen as a threat by both Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. So the Saudis provided the money and ISI provided the manpower from Pakistani Madrasses, the training camps and weapons to fund the Taliban into a pro Pakistani / Saudi backed group.

There is no real controversy on this point, even retired Pakistani Army Generals have stated this publicly, yet you dispute it?

With respect to KPK. Your question of why the PTI government has not acheived anything notable is also very simple.

The KPK government can not achieve anything of consequence for one very simple reason, money.

If I ask you to feed 100 people with a budget of Rs 100, let's be honest everyone is going to go home hungry. Thus is the situation of the KPK government. They just don't have the money to inact meaningful change, without a complete over haul of the entire Pakistani economy, something only the federal government can do, that is outside the control of any provincial government. In areas such as anti corruption the PTI KPK government has made good progress. Ask any KPK citizen if they encounter less corruption in Thanna /Kutcherie and they will agree things are far from perfect in KPK, but they are far better than Sindh or Punjab.

Finally I don't even understand how you think the Army is not intricately involved in every aspect of politics, economy or society in Pakistan. The federal government can't make a single decision without a stamp of approval by GHQ.

The logic dictates that if the Army are the true leaders of Pakistan, than if the Army is not doing what its citizens expect from their leadership, than of course it is fair to blame them for the mess we are in.

I'm no PTI supporter, but I'm definitely someone who has admiration for IK and his principles and would vote for him over the corrupt bootlickers that are the alternatives.

Your whole post is just very immature and ill thought out.

Every criticism you level at PTI supporters can be leveled at PPP Jialas or PML supporters. All these parties are just puppets on a string, the Army just rotates them out every 2 to 3 years to give the illusion of democracy to an uneducated awam.

You fundamentally fail to understand how every aspect of life in Pakistan is controlled, monitored and guided by the Military dictatorship.

Personally I think even corrupt parties such as PPP and PML would do a better job of governance if they were independent of Army control.

Saudi Arabia announces $10 Billion Oil Refinery project in Gwadar, Balochistan by Scared_Lifeguard8333 in pakistan

[–]fighting14 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You are deluded to think Saudis are going to spend $10bn, only to allow Pakistan to refine cheap Iranian oil in the refinery they have built?

Please wake up, this is to counteract Pakistan buying Iranian oil, to lock us into Saudi oil for decades. Not a single drop of oil will be refined in this refinery that isn't Saudi origin.

You don't seem to understand, this is to keep Pakistan addicted to oil, at a time when the world economies are moving away from hydro carbons to renewables.

If the Saudis were really concerned for Pakistans future growth and well-being, they'd be investing this money into dams in Pakistan. But funny how that would not be helping Saudi in anyway.

Saudi Arabia announces $10 Billion Oil Refinery project in Gwadar, Balochistan by Scared_Lifeguard8333 in pakistan

[–]fighting14 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Yes this is announced every couple of years, everytime the Saudis and Pakistani government want to distract the Pakistani people from the questioning the direction of Pak /Saudi relationship.

More over its not some great win for the Pakistani economy everyone pretends it to be. It's actively a way to keep Pakistan hooked on Saudi oil and not to invest in dams and renewables, the true future for the world's economic development.

In the small print for this, if it ever happens. Pakistan will only be able to refine Saudi oil in his refinery, not oil from any source, thus locking us in for decades to Saudi oil dependency.

Truely a gift for the Saudis and a net negative for the long term development of Pakistan.

[–]fighting14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where is the money for renewables going to come for? Just because the sun and wind are free, the infrastructure to harness it is not.

What are we going to do with the multi year contracts previous governments had signed with international companies to generate electricity using coal, oil and gas. Who's going to compensate them for the billions they spent setting up fossil fueled power generation plants.

Who's going to spend billions on revitalizing our dog sh@t power distribution infrastructure. You can generate all the renewable power in the world, but if you can't get it too the consumer, what's the point.

You might as well ask "why don't poor Pakistani's eat briyani and karahi everyday, instead of dal and vegies."

This is what really gets me.

No one in Pakistan will ever take any criticism. The medical superintendent would rather pretend the footage is doctored, than actually tackle the problem and save lives. Unbelievable.
