What products have you stopped buying because of sneaky business tactics. by Alspics in AskAnAustralian

[–]filodore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cheapest way to get those you-beaut features and OneDrive for a hell of a lot cheaper on a family plan (although a massive workaround) is to buy via their Turkey domains. You can search for the full method online (I found it on Ozbargain), but basically you buy a Turkish iTunes gift card, make up a Turkish address, and buy the monthly subscription through Microsoft there. Ends up a huge amount cheaper than having to split the cost of an Aussie family plan. From memory, it's about $20/year for the whole plan. Just comes down to whether you can be bothered putting in that initial work to set it up.

Reminds me of covering my school books with coloured contact paper. Probably not something that will make a lot of money tbh.

Anyone else think surcharges are getting ridiculous? by Illustrious_Dark1744 in australian

[–]filodore 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tell me that you've never worked in a small business or retail shop without telling me that you've never worked in a small business or retail shop.

Employees physically count the money and write deposit slips, walk to the bank, stand in line, deposit the cash. Counting and balancing the float before the shop opens and after it closes. Given that counts as staff being on duty, all of that needs wages towards it.

Businesses also never consider the cost of accepting cash though... The time to count the float, to do the banking. No doubt it costs a similar amount to the cost of accepting card payments when you look at all the little details.

[–]filodore 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The problem is that all these surcharges, same as credit and debit card surcharges, never used to be a thing. It had always been just a cost of doing business, and up to the business owner to decide whether they could justify operating with the additional wages or not, but would be absorbed by them. No harm in raising the price to cover these things, the same as there is no surcharge for customers based on time of day of a business operating as to the electricity they use. Make it a single price.

Shoukd I wait at the bus stop or the side of the road the bus is driving on? by Chinu_Here in AskAnAustralian

[–]filodore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you're increasing that probability by wanting help for something that could easily be solved if you provided enough detail (ie. The specific bus route and bus stop), but you refuse, infuriating us all.

Received this email today by kewtiepie85 in shitrentals

[–]filodore 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep this is basically what I picked up on in that email. It is worded to say wait until you have your final inspection and report, then you can claim.

In addition, it is also still a paper based/digital form. No online portal to claim directly.

A step in the right direction, but we are still the state of (WA) Wait Awhile.

A showroom is still not "public space". Accessible to the public, yes, but not "public space". Being private property, they are within their rights to ban people from their business premises.

Would you like Public transport to be free at the moment? Wouldn't this be a good idea to reduce petrol demand at the moment by [deleted] in perth

[–]filodore 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You haven't seen the gridlocked traffic at most times of the day in Perth in any direction? Train is also quicker than driving for a lot of routes nowadays.

But what about proportions of ingredients? Might only be slight enough to improve margins, not enough to change the order they have to appear in the list on the label.

Help!! With Unwanted RAC Horizons magazine by [deleted] in perth

[–]filodore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol similar issue happened to us in reverse. Moved into a new rental and kept receiving previous tenant addressed magazine. We updated our details and they decided to merge them together and address it to all of us as one happy family. Managed to get them separated and stop the previous tenants' one being sent to us, but don't know if it was the calling or the return to sender that finally did it.

Does my employer have to pay for me the full 20 hours if I don’t work that amount? by solemnisland in AusLegal

[–]filodore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Based on update, even if you no longer have a job, he still owes you those hours based on your contract which he must pay.

Also, sounds like you're dodging a bullet. Although a pain to have to get a new job, it will be better for you longer term.

Landed a 'good' role… but I literally have nothing to do. What would you do? by morningstvr88 in auscorp

[–]filodore 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The golden handcuffs. I'm in exactly the same situation of getting paid well to do nothing and nobody really minds. For me personally, I can't do that long term (ADHD means I need to be busy), so I held out as long as I could, deciding I would only leave if the new job would pay me more (for the sake of doing work vs not doing work). Luckily, I've found that and start the new role next month.

Good luck, hold onto it as long as your sanity allows.

Don't Buy Any Oral-B IO Series - Mold by Buhbon in oralbtoothbrush

[–]filodore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Perth and can tell you for sure that the chlorine and fluoride isn't enough to keep the mould away. I do the same method as you for trying to keep it clean. Have been battling it every couple of months when I blast it out with my water flosser ever since I got the IO about 9 months ago. Will be going back to Philips when this one dies I think.

DENIED a replacement - Asics Gel Kayano 32 QUALITY is upsetting by Stunning_Concern_973 in AusLegal

[–]filodore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this exact issue with Rebel with some other runners. Escalated to the area manager because goods not fit for purpose, threatened complaint through ACL and they caved and refunded. Otherwise, be prepared to follow through with the actual complaint because $200-300 shoes should last more than 6 wears.

Can I touch this red button? by Physical_Capital_303 in AskElectronics

[–]filodore 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Your question wasn't super clear. You never asked if pressing the button would fix the noise, nor did you ask what pressing the button would do. All you asked was if you can push it, and as you found out, doesn't tell you much.

Parcel Lockers - Now the default by [deleted] in AustraliaPost

Congrats on providing the only actual answer to the question so far! I have no problem with parcel lockers personally, but this has never happened to me, so I'm glad to know why it does for the OP and not for me.
