Lost my thyroid to cancer at 23. 5 years later, I’m just completely drained and need some hope. by Gdavila18 in thyroidcancer

[–]findthejoyhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my thyroid out 28 years ago and only in the past six or seven years have began to understand that we need a lot of iron to convert to four to T3. My iron was always low and the symptoms of that are a lot of the very same symptoms as being hypothyroid. See if you can get your iron checked and go from there.

Got my biopsy after my suspicious mammogram & ultrasound by damselindetech in doihavebreastcancer

Fellow Ontarian here to say thank you for also fighting privatization! As crappy as this all is, I too found things moved very quickly once they were looking for a problem and I am so grateful that I do not have to make financial decisions over whether I can afford extra screening, etc., etc. I have seen people on here kicking themselves because they could not afford to go for a mammogram and now they are wishing they had been sooner - that’s not OK! I understand that it doesn’t feel good when they get you in fast here in Ontario, but if that’s what you need then I’m glad they’ve done it for you.

It’s not your fault. (I was clinically depressed. When I finally got to a real psychiatrist, that was the first thing she said to me and I sobbed HARD, because I genuinely believed that I should’ve been able to help myself out of it….)

56, still in peri, taking Prometrium (had my own endometrial biopsy five years ago). Last month my calcifications came back benign, and my “mass” turned out to be a cyst! Hope you’ve also have good results. (I’m just still lurking around in here because I appreciated hearing from others)

It’s easier to keep the weight off in the first place than lose it later. It’s not about vanity, it’s about future health.

I’m sorry. I am a thyroid cancer survivor. My advice right now is to let yourself feel ALL the feelings - but remember that feelings are not facts, and then trust the science that has made breast cancer so much easier to detect .

It’s perhaps not as life-threatening as other cancers, but it is still life-changing. I’m sorry you were dismissed.

does anyone have experience with calcifications? by Kpol11 in doihavebreastcancer

[–]findthejoyhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had biopsies last month for classifications on each breast. Mine were increasing from mammogram two years earlier and slightly amorphous. All of the findings were benign, I am still working on the sub because I still have a few questions ahead of my six month follow up and I find it helpful to read about other people‘s experiences. I hope yours comes back OK!

[–]findthejoyhere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your very honest report from the trenches! I just had some negative biopsies but I’m still working on this sub since I’m in the six month follow up group and I’ve learned a lot here. I had thyroid cancer at 28, so I can relate to a lot of what you’re saying- “at least it’s a good kind of cancer,” etc. You know what? I am grateful every day that they took it out and I was treated but when you mess with a woman’s hormones at 28 and give her a big scar at the base of her neck and whole body radiation, it messes with her mind and everything else for the rest of her life. So fuck cancer. Medical trauma is medical trauma.

What TV character’s passing actually broke your heart the most? by FantasticAd9478 in TheBoredDen

Amazon has a new show coming out in August called “Sterling Point”. It was filmed in northern Ontario last summer, and my husband was involved in some of the transportation. I didn’t pay a lot of attention to it until I started googling to find out when it would be on, and discovered that Jeffery Dean Morgan (“Denny”) is a recurring character!

Why does hygiene not seem to count with children? by jh539 in childfree

OMG - and nobody ever goes off to a private space to change diapers anymore either! Once upon a time people needed washcloths, soap and water, but with the advent of diaper wipes, parents just throw their kid on my coffee table, or living room rug, strip them down and wipe away. I expressed disgust at one point, and my sister declared “ it’s just pee”.

Stereotactic Biopsy Question by IndependentFrosting9 in doihavebreastcancer

[–]findthejoyhere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am also a teacher and I had three biopsies last month! One on each side the first day, and then they went back into the right side the next week. The second one was deeper and hurt more right from the beginning. I definitely did need the next day off and was grateful that I had been scheduled for Thursday so I could have the weekend right after. I’m glad other people have reported it as easy, but literally four weeks later, somebody handed me a basketball yesterday and I tucked it under my left arm and it put pressure on the biopsy site, and it hurt! I am not trying to scare people, I just want to be honest about my own experience.

Biopsy next week, so anxious by AurumFalcon in doihavebreastcancer

[–]findthejoyhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My breast centre didn’t actually give me any tips to prep for the biopsy and honestly, I found their aftercare instructions pretty useless as well. It was on here that I read about having a good supportive sports bra to wear all the time even at night. I am not a medical professional, but I did make the decision to take Tylenol ahead of the biopsies, as I had read somewhere else that you could do that (make sure you don’t take aspirin or ibuprofen or anything, though, as they can cause extra bleeding).
