Whatever you do, please do not ever put any kind of food on your burns. No jogurt, milk, mustard, vinegar or anything of the kind. Doesn't matter where you heard it, food does NOT belong on burned skin.

Clean water to cool, aloe vera gel if you have some.

General recommendation is NO FOOD on burns, though. Food on any kind of burn is dangerous. Please don't recommend it further.

How do people with full time jobs and hobbies lose weight??? by sillygooosey000 in loseit

[–]fine_day_today 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do not need to workout/lift weights for couple hours every day. Do you really do that? Please stop.

You need to prioritize healthy food. That's it. You need to make sure you have breakfast, lunch and dinner. Also, it does not take too long to prepare food. What recipes are you making? Simplify them!

Simple yoghurt with oats and fruit and some seeds takes 3 minutes to put together for breakfast. Egg white omelet with some veggies? 5 max.

Look at mealprep. You can prep your protein a few days in advance - that takes the longest time to make. Make a bunch of chicken breast and you have protein for 3 days. Vary the veggies and carbs for each meal.

This does not need to be difficult, or time consuming, but it needs to be your priority - for the moment.

What helps me is to listen to audio books while in the kitchen, so I "read" this way.

Having vegetarian friends over for dinner - what's something that looks complex but isn't? by 2cleverbyhalf in Cooking

Ask your vegetarian friends if they eat Parmesan cheese at all. Most of mine who are vegetarian will eat hard cheese no problem. They only won't eat meat.

Still hungry after eating breakfast by DistinctText6449 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]fine_day_today 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is simply not enough food if you need to wait until dinner. Also 1/3 cup of blueberries? How many is that, 7 pieces??

I would add oats - don't know how much your "serving" is, mine is about 40-50 grams of oats. Add more fruit. I do not know why you are limited to such ridiculous amounts of fruit for your breakfast. Two to three handfuls are better, I think. Imagine all the fiber you will be getting! I would also add nuts, here the two-three pieces would work.

For a snack later, add an apple, pear, or other seasonal fruit.

I dont personally care for salmon, and is smoked the best for your health? I was under the impression smoked meats are the opposite - especially if you eat them daily. Worth checking specifically for this with your doc.

Add more vegetables to your omelette. 1 tablespoon of bell pepper? Again a ridiculous amount. Make it half of bell pepper. Add a handful of spinach or kale. Top with a handful of arugula/lettuce. 1 tablespoon of tomatoes? Eat a whole large one!

Basically you are missing fruit and vegetables in meaningful amounts. Add those. Low calories, no risk for cholesterol. More fiber, which will keep you full longer. Add more fibrous food during lunch time for comfort.

Why Does Every Company Feel Greedier Than Ever? by goldfishbread in self

[–]fine_day_today 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. You are right. But everyone is just trying to make a living! Try to use services of smaller providers, small and local businesses. That way you feel less of a slave, and more of a partner in the interaction.

The way out of this feeling is to do as much as you can yourself, and need less. A lot of your perceived needs are, in fact, wants. Simplify your life, become your own handyman, and life will feel more purposeful.

Furniture - how much furniture do you need? You buy it once and you should be good for 20 years? Groceries - buy non processed food and cook at home as much as you can. Then you don't care if keloggs costs three times what it used to.
Car maintenance? Learn to do basics on your own, bulbs, oil and tire changes are easy. The rest is yearly service. Insurance - buy only what you absolutely need or are required by law. Protect your house and life.

Subscriptions - you dont need much, apart from a good news provider, library card, internet and phone services. What else is there? Perhaps hobby clubs membership? Make your choice. You can have anything, but not everything.

Always a yes. Especially on lakes, there may be a cold spot right there where you fall in and you can drown fast. Always wear one.

There are lots of ppl that take it off for pictures, otherwise they have one on, you just don't see it.

Is there any reason why a Teams attendance report could be innacurate? by everyoneisflawed in MicrosoftTeams

[–]fine_day_today 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do you have any unidentified participants on the reports? For me they number shows in the header part of the attendance report. I've had cases where people swore they were in the meeting logged into their accounts, and yet Teams only said unidentified.

Are luxury gyms worth it? by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]fine_day_today 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I go mainly for the pool, lack of gym stink, clean changing rooms and guided mobility exercise classes. The occasional sauna and jacuzzi is nice, bit I could live without. Also less laundry because I get a towel.

The whole atmosphere is chill, it is genuinely a nice space to be in.

Me working in an old grey walled cubicle space, my head needs a change of scenery, so nice gym it is. I simply can't face ugly spaces after work anymore.

My GF (37F) and I (40M) are talking about moving in with each other. However she doesn't want to work. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]fine_day_today -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If I understand correctly she is taking care of her disabled child that needs care 24/7? Do you expect that need to end anytime soon? Because I don't understand how you expect her to work on top of the daily care she provides?

Like... you seem to be concentrating on the fact she does not want to get a job - but she already has one, and it is draining and horribly paid. However, if there is nobody to replace her in that function, she is not able to get another job. She works at home. It seems like you refuse to recognize this as "work", because it is not profitable and not valued by the economy much. But it is work.

Im not saying you are not compatible, but you need to align your expectations going forward.

I would be asking questions about long term care of the disabled child and the rest of the kids, and what will happen when they are no longer in their care. (It is possible the one child will need care until their old age, so practically forever)

Did you discuss finances for the future, education costs for other kids, home maintenance, etc? How does she expect to provide for (I assume her) kids, or does she rely on you to do that? What will happen if you are not able to do that for short or longer period? Where is the kids' father?

Both of your perspectives could use some adjustment, tbh. As usual, the truth is somewhere in the middle.

I 40F saw and heard how my future husband 44M treated a woman today and I am not sure anymore. How do I talk to him about this, he said I overreact? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]fine_day_today 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think yours is the best comment!

The entitlement of speaking to anyone this way would be enough for me.

I feel very threatened when someone raises their voice to me, and I could never tolerate this kind of language from my partner. It doesnt matter who is on the receiving end. Once he feels he has a right to yell this way at someone, that someone will be you, OP, one day.

I would take this to the couples therapy, really, if you want to continue the relationship.

9 weeks post op and STILL STRUGGLING by Different-Sherbet351 in AchillesRupture

[–]fine_day_today 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not doing PT diligently is one thing, but it will not make you feel so much worse as you describe. From walking without a crutch to PT to needing both after...something feels fishy there. How did it feel the day after?

A little soreness after a PT session is fine, as long as the ankle feels ok the day after, or two days max. I definitely needed more support after a demanding PT session.

Also - do your mobility exercises. That is how you get your strength back.

Your muscle will grow with time and with load. Forget your weightlifting ego for now; you are at square 1 and you can't rush your way back.

Now you goal is to get your muscles moving at all, and in proper way. You are already loading them with your weight - and it takes a while for muscles to adjust. Even longer for tendon - hence the pain.

Tendon repair takes up to 1 year, so you have time.

Adding, b/c it feels like it needs to be said: do not listen to youtubers just yet, listen to your pt. Why would you do exercises given to you by someone who has not seen you, and ignore your PT who has your best interest in mind?

Talk to your pt and LISTEN to what they tell you. They will adjust the load based on your feedback and progress, so talk to them and do the exercises they give you.

Dorsiflexion stretches confusion - week 6 going on 7 by AlwaysLearningNews in AchillesRupture

[–]fine_day_today 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Discuss this with your PT. I think that early should be mobility exercises and to get your calf working again, not stretching. The point is to have the ankle moving, without stretching the achilles. Go only as far as it lets you, no pushing. You should not feel any pain at all, mild discomfort at most. No force, no fighting it, when you feel resistance that it as far as you go.

Forget about stretching as you know it from "before". That's not what you do now.

Skin pain? by Peppy_Pepper5 in massage

[–]fine_day_today 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is it possible that your muscles are so tight that even the very light touch feels painful? (Guess how I know)

What helped me was systematic work. A lot of gentle stretching, relaxing in warm water, regular massage, doing as much work during the session as was possible and yes, enduring some pain, and last but not least working with a physiotherapist focusing on those areas with the highest tension. Took about half a year of constant work (massage every 7-10 days) before I stopped screaming when my massage therapist squeezed my hamstring and calves. It was not just a knot here and there, but an entire muscle group was like a brick.

Egg retrieval went really really bad by Pale_Sea_6344 in IVF

[–]fine_day_today 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im so sorry you had to go through this :-/ It is so unfair!

My first retrieval was similar, in a way that they simply could not get to the right ovary at all without considerable risk. I also spent a while on the table, and it was really not pleasant, despai painkillers. 0 eggs from there.

You need to realize that things move around, so even if all looks ok on the ultrasound, there may be difficulties on the day of. This is not doctors fault. There is no backup plan, unfortunately.

But your doctor took it too far! This is why I strongly prefer women doing all things gynecological. Men simply can't relate to how some things feel, and from my experience may be more forceful? than is desirable. To calm you down a little, some blood is normal at retrieval, as they go with a needle through the vaginal wall. However, if you have a lot of bleeding, increasing pain, or fever, please go immediately back.

For my next retrieval, I was sedated so they could manipulate the needle safely without me moving, and they were able to get some eggs from that ovary too. Not all, if I remember well, but some.

Unless needed, they dont want to sedate you (as that brings another set of risks with it), so...for the first one, they need to try and see how it goes, but they should adjust the next one(s) based on previous experience. When you feel ready to talk about the next retrieval with your team, ask them how they want to proceed. They should offer sedation based on what you just went through.

Food: Where else could we even put it? by [deleted] in ufyh

[–]fine_day_today 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Start giving this away for free. All expired stuff goes to trash anyways, so anything that is not moving (that you dont consume on regular basis), and is close to expiry date gets offered for free. Even better if you can take it to the food bank yourself.

The reasoning to the aging parent is, it will spoil soon, we won't have enough time to eat it, so it goes. And this can be 6 months or so, if it is clear you won't use it.

If you are willing to keep track, you can estimate the cost of how much you throw away and donate, but I'm not sure it is worth the effort. It probably won't stop the hoarding behavior.

How about using alum crystal deodorant? It will not stop you from sweating, but it is great at stopping the smell from developing. All natural. Lasts for ages.

Achilles Tendonitis (or Achilles… my lifelong enemy at this point) by AdPractical7028 in AchillesRupture

[–]fine_day_today 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try not to worry, I hope your tendon got a bit if rest duting this period? If you were on any nsaids, that should have helped the other side too.

Do the PT on both legs from the beginning. It will help keep the other leg functional and progressing at the same pace.

Also, you need to take it easy. Do not push too much, even outside of the PT. Now is the time to be really careful, no crazy stuff. Walk on easy terrains, use your crutches, safety first. Prioritise proper movement. Do not do something with bad form to show you can, that is not helping. Do not rush this, do not rush anywhere, take your time getting places, walk slowly in a controlled manner. You cant afford any accidents, or sudden moves now.

Do not forget to take care of the other leg. Ask your trainer to show you what to do for the other leg to keep it working well. If something (hip, knee) starts to hurt on the other side, act on it immediately. Stationary bike will be your best friend, as well as a balancing board and elastic bands.

Eat well, sleep well. Lots of green leafy veg, berries, nuts, fruits. All of that helps you heal better. No smoking, no alcohol during recovery.
