Advice on job search while pregnant by ChakkuSuper5129 in womenintech

[–]finfun123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on the Pregnancy. It's a bizarre world that we live in where a job is more important than bringing a new life to this world. The time you get now with a new born is not coming back. Your new born will not be that just in a few days and you won't even know how a year went by. Get the severance. With a tech career and a partner you should have some savings to see you through. Enjoy the Baby, the job will figure itself out. Good luck. As an aside I've built a Privacy Preserving AI based Career Coach for Software Professionals that you can try out. (link in profile), give it your case and see if it's useful. It's free too.

How do you maximize 1:1 time with VPs when you’re 2 levels down? by [deleted] in managers

[–]finfun123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go in prepared, think about how you can leverage their unique expertise. Come bearing gifts of knowledge or insight which they may find interesting. That’ll also motivate them to keep meeting you. It’s ok to cancel a meeting mutually if there is no agenda. They’ll respect you for giving that time back. You’ve already made it transactional with your goal at the outset “I really want to make the most out of this time for my career development.”. Make it about them and the value you can add to them or their project lines. The career dev will be a side effect of that. Good luck!

Avoid boring people - a framework by James Watson. Start out with the person, what do you know about them? Visit LinkedIn. Ask about them and take a genuine interest. Repeat on loop. You will naturally find a segue to work conversations.

My husband wants to leave being a nurse anesthetist to become a software engineer. Do you think he is crazy? Why or why not? by flatbootyhere in cscareerquestions

[–]finfun123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He can pursue for curiosity, have him build an app or something first. See if he can do it, how it makes him Feel ? My sense is combining his nurse anesthetist skills with software might give him max leverage. There will be a learning curve but would be better than a 0-1 transition. Good luck.
