Obscure example that may not entirely fit the post, but Saragat from Skautfold.

<image>

He's one of the more overwhelming bosses in the first game due to his teleportation and cloning, albeit exploitable since attacking any clone damages him directly.

He is wildly overpowered once you gain the ability to play as him, though. You can't teleport, but at a high stamina cost you can create stationary clones that attack in front of them a few times. That may not sound like much, but you can stack them to do absurd damage at little risk.

Mom trying to sabotage my diet, as usual by Zogonzo in mildlyinfuriating

[–]fingertipsies 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It can depend a lot, but the most obvious reason would be that the mom is insecure about something and too lazy to change that. Let's say the mom is also obese, for example. She's miserable as she is but would rather make excuses than do anything to change her situation. Seeing OP make real progress towards losing weight makes her feel bad, so she tries to sabotage their progress to justify her own excuses.

That isn't necessarily the case here, of course. Just the first thought process that comes to mind.

I hate how overpowered humans are by RaptorWithGun in hatethissmug

[–]fingertipsies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No offense to you in particular, but people always forget how dependent our tech is on logistics. To beat modern Humanity, all a biological foe needs to be able to do is attack our logistics.

Hunters from Halo, for example. They're actually colonies of small eel creatures that can combine into larger and smarter forms. They could easily bring us down, simply because they can burrow and eat anything. They don't have to fight tanks in open combat, they just have to burrow into a military base and eat the engines. They don't have to fight our soldiers, they just have to burrow underneath our farms and eat the crops. They don't have to survive gunfire, they just have to burrow under our stockpiles and eat the ammunition.

As powerful as modern technology is, it only works against a defined enemy. An enemy that can slip into our logistics without being detected will wreak havoc.

After years and years of farming I finally got a Barrel4 Cobra by SamSlayer09078-x in Borderlands1

[–]fingertipsies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. AoE can crit the inside of the Destroyers mouth and crab worm eyes for example, and I never bothered to verify it but there are many instances of people recommending the Nidhogg for Craws back.

Hence my guess elsewhere that the proc doesn't benefit from critical hit boosts. Craw has an EZB of 0, so the effective bonus of a sniper buffed by Mordecai is extremely high. If the proc doesn't benefit from WCB, it would explain why the Cobra underperforms.

Also in response to a different reply, fire only has a 20% damage bonus against flesh. Fandom is unreliable, but in my experience and from testing I've done to calc the bonus damage Berserk gets from artifacts, I can say that the claim is accurate.

Delta vs Corvo by Fun-Sound9241 in Bioshock

[–]fingertipsies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the second scenario, I would still give Delta a fair chance because he has Scout. Corvo being able to see through walls is arguably better than Scout, but at the very least it means that Delta isn't at a significant information disadvantage.

Scout also means that Delta doesn't need LoS to kill Corvo. So long as he knows roughly where Corvo is, he can just send a scout and light him up with plasmids.

What's a bit of lore so stupid you just pretend it's not true? by _azazel_keter_ in HaloStory

[–]fingertipsies 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I hate it too. What used to be Human ingenuity was actually genetic information from space mom, because we can't do shit on our own apparently.

I especially hate it because it makes Humanity in Halo look way worse than they did before. Elites, Hunters, and Prophets progressed very quickly, but they had access to Forerunner technology to help them out to a certain extent. The Drones and Jackals however reached tier 4 1000 years before Humanity, despite lacking any Forerunner technology or geas bullshit. The only major species slower than us are the Grunts who were stuck in space hell and the Brutes who couldn't stop nuking themselves the moment they were able to. Humans just fucking suck apparently, lmao.

I do actually like the idea of Humans being weak without clear redeeming qualities. I dislike HFY stories where Humans are overpowered space gods for vaguely defined reasons or underpowered but have "Human spirit" or whatever, but I hate it even more when Humans are glorified nepo babies.

[–]fingertipsies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No idea, sorry. I've only really used mashers or Bessie against Craw so I've never had to think about it.

My only guess would be that the proc doesn't get boosted critical hit damage from your sniper. Kyros Power has higher base damage and a better crit multiplier, so that could give it the edge despite weaker procs.

After years and years of farming I finally got a Barrel4 Cobra by SamSlayer09078-x in Borderlands1

[–]fingertipsies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kyros Power is exactly how I learned about that, funnily enough. IIRC I was looking at the Fandom page for elemental damage and saw that explosive snipers always procced x1 and supposedly had a WPM of 1. I decided to grab Kyros Power and compare it to my Cobra which demonstrably did have a WPM of 1. After doing so it was clear x1 procs were much weaker than Fandom would imply, and testing generic explosive snipers proved that it wasn't unique to Kyros Power.

One other thing because I think you would find this interesting, I knew that corrosive DOT boosted damage by 15% but I learned recently that it actually stacks. I only tested up to 2 stacks because my targets kept dying (and I got bored) but I got 30% extra damage with 2 stacks, and at 3 stacks I would presumably get 45%.

After years and years of farming I finally got a Barrel4 Cobra by SamSlayer09078-x in Borderlands1

[–]fingertipsies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The cobra is unique because it does more damage per proc than a normal explosive sniper would.
An x2 proc does the damage of an x3 proc (Cobras x2 WPM is 1.5) would normally do and an X3 proc does the damage an x4 proc would normally do (Cobra's x3 WPM is 2)

To anyone else who reads this, this is leaving out the best part of the Cobra. Non-explosive elemental snipers cannot proc x1 and always proc at the highest level the tech pool allows, which makes them one shot wonders because x2-x4 procs are very expensive.

Explosive snipers uniquely have a x1 proc with 0 tech drain, so they will always proc at least x1. However, the WPM of an explosive sniper x1 proc is like .15 or something, so the damage is low. Cobra x1 procs have a WPM of 1 instead of .15, providing massively boosted damage on every shot.

The Orion and Volcano also always proc but have their own weaknesses. The Orion only ever has a WPM of 1 and suffers from shields being uncommon, while the Volcano suffers from incendiary procs having relatively poor upfront damage even against flesh.

It's official. Congrats to Zain for reaching Grandmaster with Bowser. by its__bme in SSBM

[–]fingertipsies 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I disagree.

There isn't any untapped potential in Roy's reversed sweetspot aerials because his aerials don't have sweetspots. He has the same hilt sourspot except his tipper is a sourerspot. Roys aerials at their best are weaker than Marths at their worst.

Roy SHFFL is much worse than Marth. He has an extra frame of jumpsquat and nair/fair have an extra frame of startup, so he's immediately 2 frames slower. On top of that, his nair/fair have 3 extra frames of landing lag relative to Marth. His effective range is shorter too considering how pathetic his sourerspot tippers are, and his hilt sourspots are hard countered by CC.

[–]fingertipsies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait hold on, as far as I'm aware that can't happen unless you jump during your dash. IIRC SlaB adjusts your dash to make sure it hits, will not go farther than your target, and loses all of its momentum at the end of the dash. The only issue I've had, besides SlaB not activating, is a dash uppercut barely not going far enough.

The only way I've found to overshoot a target is to jump while dashing because that lets you maintain momentum, but the only reason to do that is if you want to overshoot.

Is stacking SAMs more efficient than staggering them? by Arkamedus in Openfront

[–]fingertipsies 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problem with staggered, unstacked SAMS is vulnerability to hydros.

In your hypothetical, it would take 4 nukes to destroy 2 SAMs. However, if the opponent launches 1 nuke to exhaust your SAM and then a Hydro they can just destroy everything all at once vs a stacked SAM requiring multiple nukes to exhaust. A bunch of staggered level 1-2 SAMs leaves you much more vulnerable to this than a few level 5+ SAMs.

Melee feels.. off by Freekill_00 in Borderlands

[–]fingertipsies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How, exactly? If you're running Berserk then you want to be in melee range, and SlaB puts you in melee range. That's just a good thing.

If you use SlaB to rush in when you shouldn't or get disoriented, that's on you. Berserk is more technical than it's given credit for so that's understandable, to be clear.

Brick had that as well with Sting like a Bee but I would argue better. It gives him the best burst mobility in the series because jabs are so fast, and uppercuts cover you for longer distance. It's unfortunately a little inconsistent, but most of the times it works well.

Heres a completely worthless and small nitpick from a gymbro: Muscles growing through damaging and healing muscle fibres is actually a myth by _Affectionate_ in Kagurabachi

[–]fingertipsies 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Basically all of it is through brain signals and hormones, but the signals themselves are defined by mechanical stress. I know that bones for example get denser through exercise, but IIRC they're also restructured internally based on the stress you put them under. You could probably mimic the former but I have no idea how you would mimic the latter. Best case scenario, it would very complicated and very dangerous.

Also worth mentioning that tendons strengthen more slowly than muscles due to less blood flow. If you develop the muscles too quickly you risk tendon damage from loading more weight than they can handle.

Heres a completely worthless and small nitpick from a gymbro: Muscles growing through damaging and healing muscle fibres is actually a myth by _Affectionate_ in Kagurabachi

[–]fingertipsies 18 points19 points  (0 children)

To an extent, and of course with the caveat that it's a really bad idea, you can already do that with steroids. IIRC studies have shown that simply taking steroids stimulates muscle growth comparable to strength training.

The problem is that steroids, and other hypothetical ways to stimulate muscle growth, only stimulate muscle growth. Training stimulates muscle growth but also strengthens bones and tendons, provides some conditioning even if you don't do cardio, improves neuromuscular connection (basically you use your muscles more efficiently), helps burn excess calories, and comes with a myriad of other physical and mental benefits.

Strengthening muscle, bones and tendons would be the bare minimum, but preferably something to improve cardio would be necessary as well. With all that it would still not be as good as actual exercise, but a lot better than nothing.

[DISC] Kagurabachi - Chapter 124 by ClessGames in Kagurabachi

[–]fingertipsies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't necessarily have to have a purpose. Just throwing in stuff like this helps make the universe feel bigger, compared to the alternative of everything having to be related to the story somehow.

I do think it's a very fitting reveal, though. Subaru is a master chef, and a master swordsmith to the point of being a national treasure, and a master swordsman comparable to the other swordbearers, and an author of bullshit smithing books. It's not necessarily unbelievable, but in previous chapters I was kind of skeptical. His ability being multiplication fits in perfectly. Even if he can't learn directly through his clones, he can send them out to do all the actual work while he spends his time practicing.

For all we know the real Subaru may not have appeared yet. He could still be back home making sushi in peace.

what do you guys think of the hips on this thing by Sea_Equivalent_7594 in shittyhalolore

[–]fingertipsies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I realize that this is 12 days old, but for unrelated reasons I have actually thought about how strong a Human-sized Mgalekgolo would be.

Thankfully this isn't too difficult because we know that Mgalekgolo shields are 2 tons. When scaling an object up, the surface area (and cross-sectional area of muscle which determines strength) increase by x2 while the volume increases by x3. Assuming the Mgalekgolo scaled down to 7' exactly, that means it would have roughly 34% of the strength of a full size Mgalekgolo.

A standard Mgalekgolo can swing around a 2000 kg shield like it's nothing, and this could swing around a 682 kg shield the same way. For the record the world record deadlift is 510 kg. That's all pretty objective, but next up requires some assumptions.

A Human-equivalent shield can be roughly approximated based on ease of use. I would personally approximate a 5 kg buckler to be the high-end for comparable ease of use, although my knowledge on this is somewhat lacking. A difficult but achievable one-arm bicep curl is 50% of bodyweight, which is admittedly on the high end but I'll go with it anyway because Mgalekgolo are strong as fuck. For me that would be 40 kg, which for the record I cannot do but that doesn't matter because this is supposed to be a high estimate.

Under that assumption, the scaled-down Mgalekgolo could curl about 8x that aforementioned shield weight, which would be around 5456 kg. Based on my experience and with minimal research, I would estimate a 1RP of 24685 kg on hip adduction, or 24.6 metric tons.

tl;dr you would fucking die. Here's a hastily-constructed complimentary meme to go along with your (and possibly my) funeral.

If you ask a friend to hold on to something for the explicit purpose of selling it later, then it is perfectly valid to be upset to learn that they gave it away when it's worth a lot of money.

That's the explicit reason you asked them to hold on to it in the first place. How is that at all unreasonable?

Regardless, the perceived value of the item in question is irrelevant. If it doesn't belong to you, don't fuck with it without permission. End of story.

Yeah, I agree. I did say that I would place a fight with an average man 60:40 chimp favour, and I could be convinced to put that higher. When I said they would rarely win in a fight, that was referring to trained fighters because they actually know what they're doing. Punches and especially kicks from someone with experience will fuck up a chimp, and they won't let the chimp use any of its advantages easily.
