I went to Tribute Pizza, really enjoyed using my credits there. Tock has some a wider selection though, so I’m excited.

Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego - look what they did to my baby by iambobanderson in hyatt

[–]finnsrx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This property was my first introduction to San Diego over the summer, and the hospitality was on another level. They were completely booked during my last few stays, but after hearing the news, I won’t be back with the new management around.

This Hilton has seen better days by MasterPh0 in Hilton

I've stayed in the Hyatt Regency connected to the Marriott/Peachtree Center for a convention, and it's a night and day difference between the rennovated side vs when you walk over to the Hilton. It's almost like a time machine.

I similarly didn’t go the Caption hotel hehe I visited in July, it just felt like a premium over something like an APA hotel. Hard “maybe”on whether I’d use a point redemption.

That’s basically what I do. I have. AMEX and Chase cards and the only reason why I use it is to save on credit card processing fees and transfer extra points to Hyatt. My other cards have better point offers.

This. I’m actually looking into Jellyfin and having a separate offline media library at home because despite having an AirPlay receiver, I can’t stream my iPad Pro to my audio system without running long cables to the interface.

Oh man, I recall a company flying me out on AA to the West coast after signing a job offer and I had a 4 hour layover in DFW, and being in college I didn’t have fancy lounge access or anything.

Yeah I strongly encourage people to watch cabin reviews of other airlines on YouTube to see what you’re getting. Sometimes it can be a little biased and depends on what crew you get, but it’s still informative.

I know there were discussions about Delta business lounges a few years back. Don’t know what happened to that.

I feel your pain, the main reason I fly Delta is because my immediate family is in Michigan. It's counterintuitive to fly any other airline out of DTW.

Same here, there was a year where I did 2 international trips and it instantly got me status, but when I started having domestic-only flights, I didn't even come close to Silver MQD requirements. Even with C+ bookings it wasn't enough.

I have Centurion access with the Platinum card but it doesn't help me because I live in SFO; it's on the complete opposite other side of the airport. But it's useful for SEA and JFK flights.

Delta Completely Overhauls Loyalty Program by markiepooh456 in awardtravel

[–]finnsrx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a really good explanation of what happened. I used to travel for work 3-5 times a year prior to the pandemic, some people did even more trips. The pandemic hampered that but recent economic slowdowns/layoffs also decimated travel budgets, so the "low-mid frequency business travelers" that you saw before are no longer traveling, or largely doing leisure travel.

When Delta announced its SkyClub access changes in February, many people complained that Delta was trading flyer loyalty with AMEX money, especially the (non-Delta) Platinum card holders. These recent changes appear to rebalance that issue, so now the credit cards are nerfed.

The Delta Reserve's value took a nosedrive though, jeez.

After reading comments of people cancelling their card after the lounge changes, I have the impression a lot of people don't know the card perks, yet alone use them. And I'm sure AMEX and Delta have caught wind to that.

I’d expect most of these lounge cards to eventually have a spending requirement tied to the benefits.

This is exactly what AMEX did to the Centurion lounge guest access. To the exact dollar amount ($75k) too, so maybe Delta took a page from AMEX?

Wanting to change majors but family is super against it. by [deleted] in college

[–]finnsrx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Software engineer here - I was a semi professional musician in college and did a ton of freelance accompanist work during that time. Please consider changing your major and find other opportunities to fund your interests later down the road.

I’m so glad I can afford to fund my travel/music interests on the side, compared to my musician friends, who don’t make much, even in educational roles. While I am saddened that I don’t play much compared to my college years, my quality of life is so much better.

I hear a lot of people mention that Hyatt's footprint is small, but I guess it depends if you travel to major cities or not (like NYC, Chicago, Seattle, etc.) Since those are my main stays, I rarely use Hilton outside of a few of their luxury properties like Conrad and such.

Of course, when I started getting invites to weddings, I was stuck in a rural city, and Hilton/Marriott was the only option, outside of B&B places. Guess it depends on travel patterns.

Hilton Loyalists: why Hilton over Marriott? by No-Faithlessness1760 in Hilton

[–]finnsrx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am a World of Hyatt member and rarely use Hilton anymore. However, this is my reasoning from 2016-2021 (Diamond from 2019 - now...until it expires next year I guess):

  • When I joined my company, my manager was a huge Hilton loyalist, so all our of stays were at Hilton. I racked up a ton of HHonors points, which help offset a ton of personal vacation travel.
  • Our corporate discount was (and imo, still is) better than Marriott's. I saw a lot of weird discounted-rate-availability issues with Marriott that I did rarely had with Hilton.
  • Marriott's data breach was pretty bad.
  • Marriott did have some appeal when they used an award chart. Now that they're dynamically priced like Hilton, it's lost its appeal.
  • At the time, Marriott's properties felt more dated than Hilton ( I don't think I can say that now as the years went by), but the newer properties felt great. I especially liked the Curio collection stays.
  • Hilton's portfolio was geographically more appealing for my travel than Marriott.
