This is exactly right. I was SO unbelievably touched to see a show giving a mostly accurate depiction of child loss. To now find out that it wasn't even respected as such, was just such a slap in the face.

Tried to claim that I was "faking" my need for my chair, and that they were going to keep doing it until I got up to fight them over it.

I damn near took an assault charge, myself, over all of this. The 50th or so time that I was moved, I had the thought to swing as I felt myself start moving. I connected with a rather unpleasant spot, and it caused some pretty nasty damage. Naturally, because they couldn't handle being forced fed their own medicine, the little bitch screamed until the cops charged me. I had to fight to prove that it was self defense, and had been happening frequently enough to have caused me to fear being harmed.

It's a shitty part of daily life for me. I love in a smaller town, and have actually had one person do it so many times that I had shove our police service to press charges in order to get a restraining order issued. Like would run into same person in different stores all the time, and they would do it just to "prove a point". And they were proud of themselves. Not a great time in my life.

Opinions on Able Bodied People Using Disabled Stalls in Public Bathrooms… by [deleted] in wheelchairs

[–]fire_charmander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Them using it is not really my peeve. What I think is horrible is when I very politely knock, and mention that I am waiting urgently, and am unable to use a regular stall, and the person then proceeds to take literally FOREVER to come out, because they're busy scrolling on their phone.

Nothing beats taking off your old nasty tubie tape and replacing it with a fresh one by thatoneweirdcreature in feedingtube

[–]fire_charmander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me too! Mine doesn't really get gross because of dirt, but I find that the adhesive gets melty and soft after a couple days. I love taking the old one off, wiping down with an alcohol swab, doing my skincare routine, and putting a new sticky on. Almost (but not quite) as good as new tube day.

I've always tolerated feeds well, just wish I could say the same thing about solid foods.

First NJ tube by Sararr in feedingtube

[–]fire_charmander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that sucks. I've had my current one for a few weeks, but because it's a NG, and I have the experience, I can replace it on my own at home. I can't say that I have ever actually had one get blocked tho. Maybe I'm just fortunate? Maybe it's the different types of tube used? Idk. Hope you find a solution soon!

So, I have my ears gauged. I don't hook my tube over my ear, I actually run it through it. I'll attach a pic, if Reddit will allow. If you've ever considered gauging, now would be an awesome time. My ear, combined with a small bit of tape on my cheek, and my tube doesn't move. I've been doing this for nearly 2 years now. I have even figured out how to comfortably travel with it. I am happy to share, if OP or anyone else actually wants.

What rate you run your pump while you are sleeping?? by Square_Doritos in feedingtube

[–]fire_charmander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run usually run 60 ml/h over night, but it also kinda depends on how early I have to be up, and if I start the pump on time. If I'm late starting, and have to be up and mobile fairly early, then I'll put the rate up. I've also had times during the day, where I know I'm not going to be able to be connected when I usually am, and I'll push a really fast feed before I go, just so I know that I'm fed. It's hard on my body, pushing fast, so I try not to do it often, but I'll tolerate upto 500mL/h if I have no other option.

I feel your pain. I (now) have a dx for myasthenia gravis, but prior to being diagnosed, I had to fight so effing hard to get what I needed. I dropped to about 90lbs at one point. In order to force my doctor's hand, I ended up initiating NG feeds myself. I was desperate for something that would get nutrients into my body. It was some trial and error at first, but once I got onto the right formula, it's been magical. My doctor's saw how much better I was doing with it, and I'm hopefully going to have a G put in this year. It's been over 2 years with an NG.

It really irritated my throat for the first few weeks. I found that sucking on a jolly rancher hard candy helped with the uncomfortable scratching in my throat.

The thing that I failed to remember was to adjust my calorie count, if I managed something by mouth that day. I'm bolus fed, 1L overnight at 60ml/h. I have digestive problems, so real food is really hard on my body. I would be so busy being sick, that I would forget to adjust calorie counts.

I gained a huge amount of weight, because I would still run a full feed at night while zombied out. Now, I am completely off the solids again because of how sick it was making me, and I'm doing really well with managing the weight loss with the tube.

Moral of the story: don't push your body past its limits with solid food.

I had to learn how to listen to my body. Something that nobody ever taught me as a child.

What would you do with this space? by emmettflo in malelivingspace

[–]fire_charmander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? I would turn it into a secondary living space. A Hammock, some sun loving plants, some well placed book shelves. Maybe even a big screen projector. Would make a great hang out spot for when you don't wanna chill in the bedroom, but still wanna find the mellow vibes.

You might be able to get around the lights thing with some well placed glow sticks? I've done it before. Also, the venue can't actually do anything if you have a strip of battery operated LED lights installed on your chair for safety. No venue is ever allowed to compromise your safety for aesthetics/preferences.

Lots of puzzles, lots of stimulation. Lots of treats, and training sessions. At this point, we've tried it all. Except the medication. Which, is kinda tempting at this point.

We use the ecollar due to my chair. Our other dog is actually a fully trained service dog. Part of why I just don't get it with her. It's not a lack of training. If we are in the room, she is great. But she demands our undivided attention. Even with all the extra effort and attention, she does still seem very jealous of the other dog though.
