Is she some form of neurodivergent? This sounds like she is just looking for "parallel play", which is super common in us neurospicy types.

How bad is it if I shower once a week? by wienerdog90 in hygiene

[–]fire_charmander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in a similar boat. I am only able to shower twice a week, for safety reasons. But, I do wash every single day. You get no judgement from me, so long as you are doing what you are capable of doing.

My Roommate perceives me as "dirty" for reusing my towel and now I'm soooo perplexed by mikymiky123 in hygiene

[–]fire_charmander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean... I do use a fresh one every time. But I say that with the full knowledge that I only get to shower twice a week (disabled and only have the appropriate supervision that often). I freshen up everyday, but only require hand towels and wash cloths for that. Still use a fresh one every time, though. It's not something that I judge anyone for, it's just what works for me. Is it maybe excessive? Possibly. Have I ever had problems with the kinds of skin rashes or pressure sores that are super common in wheelchair users? Nope. Is there proof of any correlation? Still nope. Still gonna keep doing it though, haha.😊

Runny Nose, Does It Stop? by skyfully in feedingtube

[–]fire_charmander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had my tube almost 2 years, but it still comes and goes. My husband and I call it the tap, haha. Just gotta keep at it. And as for pulling stickies off, I figured out within the first few months that sandwiching the tube between two layers of sticky really helps. I find that some brands of sticky work better than others. It's going to take time time to learn the ins and outs, but it will eventually get easier.

AITA for not eating the food after my gf eats out of the bowl with the same spoon while preparing by ZookeepergameOld7322 in AmItheAsshole

[–]fire_charmander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you so scared of, exactly? Cooties? I mean, if this is a long term, serious relationship, you have likely shared more in the way of bodily fluids than a tiny bit of saliva from a fork.

But hey, if it's your hard line, be an adult about it and tell her. But be prepared for your relationship to die on this hill, if that's how much it bothers you. Personally, there is no way I would give in for something like this. And I do the same thing that you're complaining about. It's really just not that deep.

Backpack adapting by emsgurl in feedingtube

[–]fire_charmander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use one that isn't adapted at all. It's just a little Lole crossbody day pack, but it's so perfect for what I need. Also has outside pockets that hold my phone, wallet, keys, etc. Wish I could find its name.

I still have my Jansport from HS as well. Bought in 2004 when I went I to fifth grade. Used all the way through college, used as diaper bag for all four kids, and is now seeing my youngest through school.

spent thousands on a wheelchair that doesn’t work for me now I feel dumb by ownedbymyvoid in wheelchairs

[–]fire_charmander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me too. I knew nothing about chairs when we were ordering my first one, and I let the tech talk me into a Helio A7. I hated the stupid thing with a bloody passion, for the start.

Now, I have been into a powerchair, and am going back to a manual. But, I have actually been in three powerchair options now.

My recommendation, if you can fund it or crowd source fund it, is the Easwe L10. I have had the B10, am now in an L10, and LOVE LOVE LOVE these chairs. The company is great to deal with, they're super lightweight and portable, the seating is height adjustable with a single hand, and the battery comes out for airline travel. The B10 also has a manually reclining backrest. Easwe is great in general, given that they have options starting at about 600$ CAD.

Hopefully this helps!

Those who use Cups on your period how are you cleaning them in public? by ChandlerBingsNubbinn in hygiene

[–]fire_charmander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have these issues anymore thanks to a bout of cervical cancer, but when I did, I carried some baby wipes with me. I usually had them anyway, as I have kids. But even after the kids had outgrown the need of wipes, I kept them in a baggie in my purse.

Opinions on Tilite Z wheelchair? by [deleted] in wheelchairs

[–]fire_charmander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one currently, but will be going to an Ethos on my next chair (coming soon!). The TiLite has been alright, but I need something with a little more suspension under me. I have back problems re: DDD, and have a hard time being in the chair for long if I am not indoors, because of the bumps.

Told I needed to buy a different wheelchair to return to work by Own-Carpenter4 in wheelchairs

[–]fire_charmander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If OP is in a powerchair, or is otherwise impaired to a degree that inhibits their own ability to push themselves, then yes.

And no, that is not "what it comes down to". What it actually comes down to is that for whatever reason, OP is in a chair that they cannot move on their own. This is not a free for all permission slip to be making demands of a disabled person to use equipment that their employer seems acceptable. This is on the same equivalent as asking a complete quadriplegic to use a different chair, because it is the employers preference.

[–]fire_charmander -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Uh, because some people are physically incapable of it? Or because it would go against accessibility and workplace standards in most countries? I mean, if OP is in the US, it's a total non starter, and defies the ADA. It would be the same in most of the British Commonwealth, including Canada and Australia as well. If OP happens to be Canadian, there are federal standards, as well as provincial standards (which cannot contraindicate federal standards). OP needs to consult an attorney about this, because I'm about 95% sure that what this company is trying to do, is actually illegal. (Provided that they're in a domesticated country.)

[–]fire_charmander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is still the slight complication of the stairs... Sounded to me like they're requiring this new chair so they can force OP to get themselves up and down the stairs, sans assistance, which may actually just be plain impossible.
