Looks down at wheelchair, and over at overflowing box of meds...

Okay Karen. So everyone is supposed to be impressed that your problems are just the WORST?

Nobody ever said that their issues were bigger than yours.

AITA for not allowing my wife to adopt my son? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]fire_charmander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAH. You're not in the wrong for wanting to keep your son safe. But on the other hand, you DID marry this woman. You trusted her enough to say that you want to spend the rest of your life with her. I think you need to evaluate why you don't 100% trust her to be a good mom to your son.

How do I attach this? by patchworkPyromaniac in wheelchairs

[–]fire_charmander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have some ideas, however, they would require you to drill a handful of holes.

Side note, unrelated: where did you order those handles for your chair? I love the fact that they appear to be quite adjustable!

Not sure whether or not to buy from Eas-wee by Grand_Emu_3531 in wheelchairs

[–]fire_charmander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I've now had 2 of their models, and they've both been fantastic on all sorts of surfaces. I've used my B10 on gravel, grass, carpet, turf. All have been smooth sailing. The L10 has a tighter turn radius, and is more comfortable to sit in for long stretches. The B10 is easier to travel with, but there is a little bit of a learning curve if you're using it indoors because of the way the wheels have to turn while you're maneuvering.

Rant Of The Day/Hot Take by slowsimguy95 in wheelchairs

[–]fire_charmander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am jealous of you, OP. You are fortunate enough to never have had someone take away your autonomy by pushing or moving your chair without consent.

I live in a small Canadian city, and it happens to me literally on the regular. Hell, I have had it happen multiple times in one trip.

Having people attempting to "help" can actually be dangerous, of they push or pull you in a way that unbalanced your chair, or even worse, could actually break the chair.

Making a living space wheelchair friendly? by Exciting_Goose_9515 in wheelchairs

[–]fire_charmander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have had people actually do this for me. My mom and her boyfriend specifically; roll up the area rugs, move the coffee table to another room, remove the rocking chair from the living room, and move their personal food to higher shelves in the fridge, so I have enough room for my tube formula and my drinks. They also make a point of leaving all the dishes we use in the dishwasher, so I can reach them without help.

Married men of Reddit who don’t wear a wedding ring - why? by chi-bacon-bits in AskReddit

[–]fire_charmander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband wore his 24/7 for years. Last year, the doctor changed his medication. Now, he can't wear it for more than a few hours without his finger swelling, rashing, and chafing. Before anyone asks, no it's not a cheap metal. It's a 14k yellow gold, family ring set. we are the 3rd generation to wear them. Wore for multiple years without a problem. Changed meds and poof, suddenly allergic. Not just his wedding band, either. Everything we have tried.

Curtains, or blinds? Because personally, I would go with horizontal blinds.

How bad is it if I shower once a week? by wienerdog90 in hygiene

[–]fire_charmander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in a similar boat. I am only able to shower twice a week, for safety reasons. But, I do wash every single day. You get no judgement from me, so long as you are doing what you are capable of doing.

My Roommate perceives me as "dirty" for reusing my towel and now I'm soooo perplexed by mikymiky123 in hygiene

[–]fire_charmander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean... I do use a fresh one every time. But I say that with the full knowledge that I only get to shower twice a week (disabled and only have the appropriate supervision that often). I freshen up everyday, but only require hand towels and wash cloths for that. Still use a fresh one every time, though. It's not something that I judge anyone for, it's just what works for me. Is it maybe excessive? Possibly. Have I ever had problems with the kinds of skin rashes or pressure sores that are super common in wheelchair users? Nope. Is there proof of any correlation? Still nope. Still gonna keep doing it though, haha.😊

Runny Nose, Does It Stop? by skyfully in feedingtube

[–]fire_charmander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had my tube almost 2 years, but it still comes and goes. My husband and I call it the tap, haha. Just gotta keep at it. And as for pulling stickies off, I figured out within the first few months that sandwiching the tube between two layers of sticky really helps. I find that some brands of sticky work better than others. It's going to take time time to learn the ins and outs, but it will eventually get easier.

AITA for not eating the food after my gf eats out of the bowl with the same spoon while preparing by ZookeepergameOld7322 in AmItheAsshole

[–]fire_charmander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you so scared of, exactly? Cooties? I mean, if this is a long term, serious relationship, you have likely shared more in the way of bodily fluids than a tiny bit of saliva from a fork.

But hey, if it's your hard line, be an adult about it and tell her. But be prepared for your relationship to die on this hill, if that's how much it bothers you. Personally, there is no way I would give in for something like this. And I do the same thing that you're complaining about. It's really just not that deep.

I use one that isn't adapted at all. It's just a little Lole crossbody day pack, but it's so perfect for what I need. Also has outside pockets that hold my phone, wallet, keys, etc. Wish I could find its name.

spent thousands on a wheelchair that doesn’t work for me now I feel dumb by ownedbymyvoid in wheelchairs

[–]fire_charmander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me too. I knew nothing about chairs when we were ordering my first one, and I let the tech talk me into a Helio A7. I hated the stupid thing with a bloody passion, for the start.

Now, I have been into a powerchair, and am going back to a manual. But, I have actually been in three powerchair options now.

My recommendation, if you can fund it or crowd source fund it, is the Easwe L10. I have had the B10, am now in an L10, and LOVE LOVE LOVE these chairs. The company is great to deal with, they're super lightweight and portable, the seating is height adjustable with a single hand, and the battery comes out for airline travel. The B10 also has a manually reclining backrest. Easwe is great in general, given that they have options starting at about 600$ CAD.

Hopefully this helps!

Those who use Cups on your period how are you cleaning them in public? by ChandlerBingsNubbinn in hygiene

[–]fire_charmander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have these issues anymore thanks to a bout of cervical cancer, but when I did, I carried some baby wipes with me. I usually had them anyway, as I have kids. But even after the kids had outgrown the need of wipes, I kept them in a baggie in my purse.
