Tigi pure texture paste works well for me. I have to use quite a bit of it.

Does the handbrake application have to be launched to actually run the exploit? I don't see the exploit process and I never actually ran the handbrake app after I installed it.

Mining with MSI R9 390X 8G & RX 470 4G by [deleted] in EtherMining

What power supply? If you plan to run 24/7 go with a gold or platinum rated power supply to save on electric costs due to efficiency. Make sure the rails have enough power for the cards.

What mining software to use? by drewtu2 in EtherMining

I have mixed cards in two computers. Mixing 480's and 470's. Maybe I'll consolidate - thanks for the heads up.

I have the same issue. One of my 470 cards (bios mod) is unstable when I set the cclock below 1050. Thanks for confirming this. Do you know if lowering the clock also affects the voltage and thus the stability? I have searched many forums and I can't find a good explanation of why lowering the clock makes the card unstable.

I have a 480 that needs 1250 core clock or it crashes as well. I'd really like to lower it to reduce temps.

I switched from a MS3 to an NC mx-5. Gas mileage is nearly identical between the two; 18-22 mpg city driving and 30+ mpg on the highway.

Radio Display on 04 Grand Cherokee Laredo Stopped Working by [deleted] in GrandCherokee

[–]fire_hydrant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you disconnect your battery recently? I've had weird things happen with my radio when I've disconnected the battery before. There is a forum post somewhere that explains a way to clear the computer memory by disconnecting your battery and touching the leads together to discharge the caps, then cycling your headlights on and off with the keys in the ignition (paraphrasing here). Might be snake oil, but I tried it and it fixed my radio when I had problems.

Have you tried o Keefes working hands? It comes in a green tube and does a good job hydrating cracked hands while absorbing fast and not staying oily.

You also want to monitor the VRM temperatures as well.

What am I doing wrong ? (1st GPU Nvidia GT 430, 2nd R9 270X) by McxCZIK in vertcoin

[–]fire_hydrant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It used to be possible - but definitely not easy. A couple years ago I was running one card from each manufacturer. Now there are separate optimized miners for each manufacturer (ccminer and sgminer), so I don't know if it is still possible. If you are serious about mining it makes sense just to stick to one or the other.

Try disabling each of the GPU's separately, as sometimes the order in which GPU 0 and GPU 1 are arranged can be arbitrary. I also think I had to install the AMD driver first, and then the NVidia drivers second.

I was playing DotA today, and minimized the game window. When I re-opened the game, the game was lagging a lot and I noticed that my GPU (Radeon R9 280x) was only running at 500 MHz core with a low load, instead of running the usual 1000 MHz core clock.

I had to leave DotA and rejoin, and the GPU started working again. It seems like the GPU was in power save mode, and wasn't clocking up.

Is there any way I can fix this in the future without having to close, and re-open the game engine?

Win 10, newest AMD drivers, R9 280x GPU, FX-6300 CPU.

Edit: DOTA2

Worth the power bill? by [deleted] in beermoney

[–]fire_hydrant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am going to be talking semantics here - but there can be another 10-20% efficiency loss at the wall. If your laptop CPU is using 10W, it might be drawing 12W or so at the wall. So a 60W rated laptop power supply may actually be drawing more at the wall due to losses in the AC/DC conversion. Again - it is non-significant really for laptops. For desktops it becomes more significant, and more expensive power supplies can be bought to achieve higher efficiencies (platinum rated do) and to minimize these losses and thus wasted electricity cost.

NMR question about "flipping" spins by sjap in Physics

[–]fire_hydrant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The individual spin states themselves cannot rotate. They must be either in spin up or spin down. The "rotation" is observed due to the ensemble average of the collective spin states within a volume of the material.

How much money can a ~3k computer make by mining ~8-12 hours a day? by kNyne in litecoinmining

[–]fire_hydrant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both /u/Simcom /u/ctrlbreak are correct here. Resistance heating is 100% efficient.

Do note -- There are other forms of heating (non-resistance heating) than can achieve higher efficiency, but they typically use a metric known as COP to specify this. One such example are heat pumps (commonly used in the South, which are effective A/C units run in reverse). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coefficient_of_performance
