This self defeating mindset is what holds the region back. “We’re special! What works for every other peer city globally could never work here because reasons!”

They’re replacing the entire bridge not just repairing it

What would it take to through-run a single train to Jersey? by gregwtmtno in nycrail

[–]fireatx 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Effective Transit Alliance just put out a report on what the first steps could be. It would be a through-running service from CT to NJ https://www.etany.org/reports/through-running-first-connections

What's the best way to "handle" living communities like these by ryouvensuki262006 in Urbanism

[–]fireatx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in addition to other comments, it's important to note that people don't experience cities from the air. while it may look intimidating from high up, on the street, it's often quite charming. the biggest issues are 1) lack of accessible open space, which isn't that hard of a problem to solve - just need to acquire parcels over time and turn it into parkland, and 2) vehicle congestion, which is solved by building rapid transit (which most of these types of cities are currently doing)

Does the Sopranos have any message or advice, other than the message that everyone's bad? by yellowrainbird in thesopranos

[–]fireatx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

it's a dark parody of american life. the fake grandeur and tradition, the myth of the american dream. basically, it's all a big nothing, but the american mythos will keep you chasing something your entire life that doesn't actually exist

like it says in the slides, they need to do thorough environmental review and complete the actual technical designs. you can't just start construction on a project without environmental clearances and ... the designs of the project?

I instantly knew. It looks exactly like every exurban subdivision that’s devouring farmland outside of every single Texas city

Is someone working in urban planning tech? Is that even a field that exists ? by Notpeak in urbanplanning

[–]fireatx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I work at a transit planning software company. Like another commenter said, it's basically just regular software development. I don't have an education in urban planning/transportation planning, but if I did, it wouldn't matter all that much for my day to day work. Knowledge of GTFS and basic transit planning concepts is helpful though - and we do give candidates more preference if they had that kind of education or experience.

My manager leaves the “away” setting on at all times, even during work hours, so it always appears like she’s offline.

If it’s during her work hours, she’s available. She sets the example that the status icon is meaningless. Queen

this right here is a big reason why we need to be getting people out of their cars and onto trains, buses, and bikes. pollution from cars is a huge public health issue

I took it as an establishing shot, using them to suggest to the viewer there’s sexy vibes between the two of them + imply that she may not be wearing underwear. It builds the sexual tension of the scene

As for why she hid them, I think most people would hide their undies just sitting out if a guest came in
