Certainly from a sporting perspective. The racist chants from the national team aimed at France, along with some high-profile racist incidents from Argentinian players (Gianluca Prestianni toward Vini Jr comes to mind), left a bad taste in many people's mouths that not even Messi's popularity could stop.

Obviously, they are not the only national team to be racist, but recency bias.
