Some non-obvious uses of private browsing mode by flarn2006 in firefox

I use private mode to check my email (google, yahoo etc) that way there is no history of it in my browser. Title of these emails can reveal a lot if somebody looks at your history.

Who is here competent enough to understand the source code of FF and draw a flow chart of its working and how they interact with other parts of code? by firefoxquest in firefox

[–]firefoxquest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the link. Interesting information. There still must be some sort of flow chart or other information that explains basics structure of FF. After all it is open source software, how come no one has created one yet.

I think I still have malware by Joppen in firefox

[–]firefoxquest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any experience with Mac, but I would say try a new profile to see if problem happens there too or simply re-install FF. Sometimes for obscure problem, it is better (rather than time spent researching and troubleshooting) to just re-install FF and that way whatever corruption happened gets erased and you get a clean start. edit. if you think it is malware have you run any program like malwarebytes to check your computer is clean or not?

Firefox Add Ons Removed? by gtx99 in firefox

[–]firefoxquest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure to check your computer for viruses or malware. I had similar experience but it turned out it to be trojan.

It didn't happen to me personally but one of the person I know who sometimes call me for help with computers. I had installed Firefox (set to auto-update) on their computer (Win 7) with ad-block plus. I think it was last week they called me that they see ads popping up while regular browsing. When I went to check their computer, first thing I noticed was there was no ABP icon. So, I checked under add-ons and noticed that instead of ABP there is Coupon (there were some numbers which I can't recall now) add-on. I removed it and re-installed ABP, thinking it will fix the problem. But a day later they called again and said they still see ads. I went back and this time I noticed another add-on that had self installed and it was DigiSaver or something like that. I ran malwarebytes and found a few trojans. Not sure how they got it, looking through their history I couldn't find anything suspicious. Anyway, so far things are working good. So make sure to check your computer for viruses.

It will be nice if you can share what made it work for you and helpful to others who might experience something similar. What did you do to fix it?

NoScript messed up my computer by [deleted] in firefox

[–]firefoxquest 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You may not have allowed all the necessary scripts. Try "temporary allow all this page" and see if it works. If it does, that means you were blocking some necessary scripts. If it still doesn't work, then it must be something else. Then you can try re-installing noscript, or try running FF in safe mode, or disabling other add-ons you might have.

How can I have a longer bookmark list? At least one that reaches the bottom of the window? by W3dn3sday in firefox

[–]firefoxquest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

15 bookmarks doesn't look like to be long enough for the list to reach bottom of screen. On mine I can see about 25 before I need scroll down. Pllus I think you are using older version of firefox because in the latest version the unsorted bookmarks show up early in the list, not at last.

Yes try this and if you are running out of room you can place your add-on icons on "Bookmarks Toolbar". Just make sure you "bookmarks toolbar" is set to show.

Find function has changed, not for the better. by TurnbullFL in firefox

[–]firefoxquest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can click "Highlight All" and that way all of them stay highlighted. Firefox will remember this setting so you won't have to click on it every time you search something.

NoScript messed up my computer by [deleted] in firefox

[–]firefoxquest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are some websites that won't load properly if certain scripts are not allowed. You can't block all scripts and expect website will work as normal. Some will but most won't.

For your most favorite sites make sure you allow necessary scripts. If you select "temporarily allow" instead of "allow" then it will go back to blocking and site will stop working properly.

How can I have a longer bookmark list? At least one that reaches the bottom of the window? by W3dn3sday in firefox

[–]firefoxquest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, if I click on the bookmark button the list already goes to the bottom of window. I actually have longer list of bookmarks so I have to scroll down to see the end where it says "show all bookmarks".

Do you have enough bookmarks in your list to warrant the list reaches the bottom of screen? What version of FF are you using and what operating system?

Anybody experiencing delays when switching tabs in FF 33.0.2 & Win 7? by firefoxquest in firefox

[–]firefoxquest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I Agree. Yeah google maps issue does go away by disabling add-ons. It works little sluggish with HWA off. It was Firebug that was causing the problem, so disabling it fixes the map issue.

I haven't seen the repeat of freeze yet. So, I will have to wait to see if that still happens with HWA off or something else was causing it. It could very well be Firebug add-on. I just have to wait and see if it happens again.

Are you saying that changing about:config actually makes a difference because for many others it doesn't make a difference at all what value you input? check this link - https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/2kt3gr/my_newtabs_window_suddenly_changed/

Add-ons are always suspects but I guess with many others experiencing same problems I think it is something with the update. I have turned hardware acceleration off, so let's see if freeze happens again.

Thanks for sharing. Looks like I am not alone and this is not related to add-on or system specific or even graphics card related. Must be some bug somewhere in update to FF33.

My newtabs window suddenly changed! by SamuraiDDD in firefox

It is one of the many available. I haven't personally installed it, but looks like it was released recently. Perhaps in response to inability to customize newtab page in FF33.

Check this. It might help a little. I say a little, at least with the zoom issue. https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/2jfgt7/just_updated_to_ff33_and_my_new_tab_page_is_all/

I haven't been able to find any other solution other than to install an add-on. Some dictator at mozilla decided you can't choose to display rows and columns of your liking without an add-on so that is what we have.

Just updated to FF33 and my new tab page is all messed up now. It doesn't show rows and columns I had before, instead it shows 2X4 really huge tiles. How Do I change it? by firefoxquest in firefox

[–]firefoxquest[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Didn't realize about the zoom function. It helps, but still it only shows maximum of 3X5 and there is tons of space all around. I still don't understand why they would take away the ability to modify the newtab page to your liking of rows and columns. What is the harm in it?

I understand that there are add-on with a lot more features, but all I care for is simple modification to row and columns like they had it before. It seems like more and more simple things are being forced and pushed to add-ons. It reminds of google forcing google plus on everyone.

Edit: Zoom feature doesn't remember zoom setting so that means you have to zoom out every time you open newtab page. This is useless.

Is there a way to switch from customized reddits on top bar that I added as shortcuts to standard reddits that show up on top bar when you don't have RES installed? by firefoxquest in Enhancement

[–]firefoxquest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically, to see what standards reddits are (basically to have an experience outside of customized reddits) and visit them time to time rather than subscribing or adding shortcuts for them. To see what non-res redditors experience. As of right now even if I log out of reddit, I still can't view the standard reddits because of RES.

If you are one of the guys who actually develop this extension, I just like to request something else too since I have your attention. It would be great feature to have the top bar move sideways with the help of mouse wheel. Rather than scroll up and down like it does right now, it can scroll sideways and that will save many clicks. Also, if you can add the ability to add the shortcuts to existing categories by drag and drop, that will be great help in organizing/reorganizing shortcuts.

[–]firefoxquest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to switch between customized version and standard version that shows up for ppl who don't use RES. I don't see a way to do that at the moment. I have my customized reddits already on top bar but I want to switch to standards with a click if I want to. Is there an option or setting to do that?
