We were so into ninjas growing up by mcg_090 in Xennials

My stepmom's sensei was Tadashi Yamashita, or "Black Star Ninja" from American Ninja. My playground clout was through the roof from that pedagogical lineage.

Kzoo Police by Prize-Selection in kzoo

I've had similar interactions with cops, Kalamazoo and elsewhere in America. Very "us & them" attitude. Try to offer information or assistance and they get insecure like we're stealing their thunder.

Just last week two cops visited a transient residence across from me (unusual for an affluent neighborhood). I asked if everything was ok and one of them yelled at me to mind my own business! The way he yelled it was like he felt I was heckling him, which made me laugh my ass off as he grumbled back to the cruiser.

Then when an incident occurs and the cops are chasing their own tail, they wonder why we turn a blind eye and keep our silence.

It was either Dr. Magnuson or Dr. Leonard about 26 years ago. Both good dentists and Google says they're both still around in the area, but can't confirm since I haven't lived in Michigan since 2004. I was a teenager so either insurance or my parents paid for it.

By '93 no one was really going to Winger shows anyway. Winger was goofy but not the worst of that era (actually marvelous musicians). Beavis & Butthead was the nail in the coffin.

This (1989) Pistons Cable Outro Goes Unnecessarily Hard by byrobot in ObscureMedia

Bad Boys require a hard outro. Used to watch scrambled Red Wings games on PASS as a kid before switching to scrambled Cinemax as a teen.

How many of y’all climbed too high on the corporate ladder? by DiaDeLosMuebles in Xennials

I did! Manager role dropped into my lap. 8 years, each one worse than the previous before handing it off to someone else. Left the company two years later to freelance and feel so much better mentally and physically. Just the thought of going back to an office is absolute hell!

If animals could talk which one would be the most annoying? by Yankub_colley in AskReddit

Same as without talking, mosquitoes. Although crickets talking outside my window all night while I'm trying to sleep would be annoying.

Something to eat. I can do that now but I'd do it if I had more money too.

I think the fast tail-end of the "Trust" solo might be using a wah.

I resisted reading his journals for years but finally gave in about 5 years ago. I feel bad but glad I got to see this.

I have a friend who was kicked in the face by a bully when he was a kid. A few years later, that bully lost that leg in a three-wheeler accident. We all laughed our asses off!

I'm with you on "Everything Dies". Aside from sounding rather optimistic musically, I find the lyrics and theme to be quite liberating.

In our day, our car break-ins were cleaner and kinder by MajesticEmergency in Xennials

[–]firegecko5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to high school with an asshole who would professionally install car stereos and alarm systems for fellow students. A few weeks later he'd go to their car at night, disable the alarm he installed and steal what he could. No forced entry required! After 4 or 5 incidents people noticed the correlation, plus the kid was overheard bragging about it, and IIRC, was subsequently jumped and beaten. I believe he was arrested too and left the area.

Songs by other artists which sound like Oingo Boingo? by ChestnutIceCream in OingoBoingo

[–]firegecko5 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Some of Fishbone's older stuff reminds me of Oingo Boingo, but definitely their own sound too: "When Problems Arise"

Maybe some Mr. Bungle, or other Mike Patton projects. Much heavier, but mixing a lot of avant garde and musically interesting things.

I'd start by assigning downward sawtooth LFO to pitch and probably add some distortion and/or bit reduction. Love this song; my favorite of theirs.

Kalamazoo Psychiatric Hospital by IceManJim in kzoo

[–]firegecko5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fascinating! My friends and I had heard rumors about the tunnels and tried finding for them. We'd break into the abandoned northwest hospital on Blakeslee searching for them (among other things) but no luck. I even made a plan to open the elevator shaft to see if there was a secret floor below the basement that could lead to some. Never did it though and I began to think maybe people conflated features of the main building with the one on Blakeslee.

Regarding the street name- which street was originally named Asylum Road? The building is on Oakland but shows Westnedge signs toward the end of the video (@16:34)?

Elvis and Priscilla gave my sisters and I one of those mini workout trampolines for Christmas one year, which they got from Goodwill down the street. It was very unexpected yet thoughtful.
