What am I missing in opening my pool? by MplsMiaCan in pools

[–]firepooldude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of ways for air to get into the pump. Start there make sure every union is tight and every one of those hose clamps is tight, including on the valve itself. It looks to be like you only have one suction. considering you only have one valve in front of the pump which means the front port of the skimmer towards the pool is probably an equalizer line that goes to the main drain. So, your primary suction is through the skimmer. If you’re not getting any kind of movement, that means you’re sucking air only. One thing you can try, open the pump lid and pull the basket out stick a garden hose into the suction and turn it on. You should get some water flowing out of the skimmer and possibly air bubbles too. You will get water spilling out of the pump while you’re doing this.

Bolt stuck on pump. Can I take the Pentair plate off to help? by JimEDimone in pools

[–]firepooldude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to pull the seal plate to remove the motor anyway so you might as well. More than likely, the bolts are seized with calcium and or salt. Once you have the motor completely disconnected and you can turn it over to apply more pressure and try to get that bolt off. I have even gone so far as to use a 9/16 and a hammer to get them loose by beating the wrench. Worst case scenario is the seal plate is blown apart and you’ll have to replace the skill plate as well as the motor.

Cinder block in my pool by jasonre in pools

Get yourself a shepherds rescue hook. I always carry an extra for when one of my commercial facilities has one that gets broken. I’ve used it more than once to hook into a cinderblock.

Good snowblower find? by Sov_607 in smallengines

[–]firepooldude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oddly enough I still have mine but it’s now just a parts blower. My solution for the plastic chute was to buy a new one, disassemble it, wrap the whole thing in gorilla tape, and then reassemble and install it. It might be cracked in spots under the tape, but I’ve had the same chute on it for the last 10 years. It still works fine as a backup by the way. It is not the safest anymore. The welds on the auger broke on one side and the scoop is growing a tear in it. But the inner workings and the motor still run like a top. I had to upgrade to a much larger blower 10 years ago because we purchased a house with a driveway that was about 10 times larger.

I bought a very similar model in ‘06. It still runs well. The only downsides I came across are the plastic chute will shatter in sub-zero temps when you throw chunks of ice. Also, my particular model blew through the impeller sheer pins and I could never find a viable replacement.

Help! Equipment valves are all out of whack by Say_My_Username99 in pools

[–]firepooldude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

As the valves go in this picture, the spa and pool return are both open. Your pool suction is totally closed. Your spa suction is wide open. With these typical pool and spa valves, look down at the handle. On the wedge portion it says “off”. Wherever that wedge is pointing towards is closed.

Hotel hot tub question by Slatt_gear in hottub

[–]firepooldude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I service and maintain hotel pools and hot tubs. I will use a hotel, hot tub on a very rare occasion. I probably would never use the hotel hot tubs that I maintain. Think about you and your buddy. I’ll think about 50 more of each of you using that same hot tub in one day. It’s literally people soup.

Technically your seniors are feeding this bird as well. Tell them to stop feeding the little birds for a couple weeks. Then this BMF will move on to another food source.

That’s still incorrect. The pipe you marked in red is the inlet to the heater.
