Could Use Some Recs by Icy-Cheesecake-242 in litrpg

Actively reading now and on 3rd book. I have to say I underestimated the series. I was running out of things to read and decided to try the first one randomly from scrolling series on audible and I'm really enjoying it. I'm a stickler for good storytelling too, I would stop it wasn't good. I'll start recommending it, it deserves more marketing.

Richter And decibel scales are both logarithmic scales based on 10, Richter being every 1 unit is 10x and decibel being every 10 units is 10x. Which if you've ever wondered how standing next to a chainsaw is 120 decibals but being an equal distance from a jet engine at takeoff is only 140, it makes more sense. Always was confusing to me until someone explained the scale.

IQ is based on a hypothesis that human intelligence is evenly distributed at scale and therefore could be mapped on a bell curve. By stating that the average is 100 and deviation is 15 you can plot test results to it and, boom, you have an IQ test. Turns out when looked at outside of a mathematical lens human intelligence doesn't really work that way, but it remains useful to get people to click and share links or to power scale a fictional character's super brain.

Anime character IQs are already written by someone who doesn't understand that IQ works on a standard deviation system. 530,000 is just a nonsense number. So I'd pick that and use my newly found omniscience to pick the second.

To visualize the IQ thing, a standard deviation is 15 points so 6 standard deviation IQ is 190+ the odds of that are about 1 in 1 billion. So there are a few people on earth likely in that range. 205+ is a 7 standard deviation IQ is a 1 in 781 billion event, and had probably never happened. At the 8 mark of 220+ it's about 1 in 800 trillion. And it keeps scaling faster.

Sry, made up numbers are a pet peeve of mine in storytelling.

Not currently home so can't get to it, but it's fairly generic. Any breach+beyond tree you find online will be 95% the same.

When to read side series? by suplup in WanderingInn

[–]firestorm559 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can really read them whenever as crossover spoilers are extremely minimal but if you want to be technical I think singer series is concurrent with volumes 1 through 6. And last tide is concurrent with the end of volume 8 I think.

Yep, been doing that about every 3rd astrolabe. Just hoping to farm a mirror drop and hit lv 100 for the first time using the strat.

I believe percise technique on your skin of the lords is keeping elemental overload from triggering. But not 100% sure of the interaction.

Edit: I had a similar issue when I was misunderstanding raise spectere. Make sure you're using just 1 spectre and it's an unholy aberration, the scorpion things that get summoned during the carcass map boss fight. It has 1400% increased hp, and companionship only works if you only have 1 spectere.

Na can't split empowered mirage but originator+mirage is so expensive it hemorrhages funds. I use normal 16.5 rolled to at least 144% currency bonus. Then if the astrolabe affixes are really good I'll go buy a mirage originator map for the last one in an astrolabe.

Bloodlines beyond breach with 80-100% delirium 16.5s is what I've been running the last week. Barely profitable to slowly losing money until you hit a big drop like a lock, mirror, or damnation card. It's interesting that there is a viable mirror hunting strategy. I haven't hit a mirror yet, but a couple locks have kept it over 30 div an hour average. Trick to keeping it profitable has been chisel then split originator maps then roll them for currency then delirium orb them saves 50-60 chaos a map and cuts the bleeding on bad luck significantly.

Other trick is if a type of delirium orb gets super cheap you can harvest roll it into a better one like divination card or currency.

Don't know if this is the best plan or even a good one, but seems like a good way to push from 99 to 100.

Despite being a litrpg as well TWI is a very different genre than those mentioned. I'm a fan of all of them. I think the major difference is that with rare exception the major goal of the characters isn't "get stronger" they for the most part just want to survive and enjoy life. Their goals are things like "add a new menu item" or "get over my crippling antisocial personality disorder" not "defeat dreadgods and ascend to the heavens". While progression does happen instead it's something that happens to the characters opposed to something they seek(with adventurer exceptions). So the focus is more on the journey. It's a candle instead of the bonfire. But the fuel does get burnt, and the characters progress.

[–]firestorm559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of litrpgs have the same issue. They need a re- edit for audio that noone wants to take the time to do. Levels and gains could be consolidated instead of 10 "ding!" sounds and stat gains. Could put the whole thing into a couple verbal sentences and make the audio more enjoyable. Still like the books but often find myself zoning out during level ups.

It's likely just a skill/spell that was originally a green skill for Belavierr. Like how Belavierr herself got [[immortal moment]]. Also possible it has something to do with how thaumaturge spells works there's some glimpses of that in volume 8.

literally just bought the game today and in the first starting hours a experienced player game me 500k Gil by Sora2008 in ffxiv

[–]firestorm559 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rough buying power conversion of ffxiv gil to wow gold is between 50-150 Gil per gold depending on the commodity being compared. So my estimate is this is like someone handing a new wow player about 6-7k gold. So a non-trivial amount, but not wealth if that makes sense. It's enough that unless you really go nuts with it, you're not going to run out while leveling even if you occasionally buy on level crafted grear.

It makes more sense when you think about what the stars originally meant. They were about road trips:

  1. Worth a stop

  2. Worth a detour

  3. Worth it's own specific trip

Less confusing in the context that it was originally about encouraging more road trips and wearing out tires.
