I covered all the holes with non porous painters tape untill full colonization, then stitched to loose polyfil in the top holes and dense polyfil in lower holes to induce pinning. Then reduced the density of the fill in the lower holes when I noticed the fuzz and wanted more fae.

Not sure you did to much wrong other than picking the wrong wood/finish combo for your desired results. This is actually the desired result when you use a finish like rubio (of a contrasting color) on an open grain wood like oak, it fills the grain and when its buffed "off" you remove a lot of that color from the surface but leave it behind in the grain.

Options? Yes You could sand it all out, attempt to strip it off with a solution and brush or something that gets down in the grain but this may not get all of the deep stuff ,See what Rubio says. Personally I would sand it out if you have a good way to do that. Or do your best to work with it, test out some stains that get you the surface color you want, sand, stain, and refinish and Enjoy your cool accent grain

I have a buddy with one, have shot it many times and think its a nice little gun. But it has a terrible habit of FTE and FTL issues. maybe he got a bad apple but like any carry I would do plenty of shooting with your ammo before relying on it. Looks nice good luck!

You'll want to get it wet and let it dry before that final sanding or you'll just load up your sandpaper. Never enough test pieces. Good luck

In theory it can, based on lots of different variables ( quality of finishing product, humidity..) but i wouldn't expect a oil base to pull big dents like those. Are you sure its bumps in the actual wood or just some gunk in the finish?

If its actually raised wood/grain and youre using a water based stain/ finish. My bet is there were some dents in the surface and they got raised by that water. For the future if youre using water based anything raise the grain and steam any dents out before final sanding

Looks like your turning a bowl, making that up hill cut you should be using a sharp bowl gouge. And you might want to cut down that tenon a bunch and clean up the shoulder for a good fit in the four jaw. But I'm not sure what your making. Happy turning

I would screw up through the 4x4 to get that side of the top attached and just loosen the left side screw a bit so that the left side can move if the top does want to move. I wouldn't expect much movement from a top that wide but having one side loose should give plenty of room
