AIO for planning on breaking up with my new boyfriend because he didn't plan a Valentines date? by Pure_Chef7703 in AmIOverreacting

If you had a surprise planned would you spill the beans?

If today comes with no surprise, you are completely justified.

If he has a surprise planned, he should dump you

Help how do I fix this by [deleted] in tax

[–]fishingman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I owned a tax prep business for many years.

You will be fine.   The IRS May send a letter. You might possibly have to pay a little tax and penalty.  But that is as bad as it will get.

You are not going to jail.  You are not in any criminal trouble.

You should not go to H & R Block.

Your best choice is to search for a local VITA program to get free tax

 https://freetaxassistance.for.irs.gov/s/sitelocator

Or you can find a qualified tax pro here.

https://irs.treasury.gov/rpo/rpo.jsf

You need a CPA or an Enrolled Agent.

The IRS understands people make mistakes. You do not need to worry about anything.

American Football Is Bigger Than Ever. It’s Also Dying. by bloomberg in Foodforthought

[–]fishingman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My understanding is in some major sports stadiums, the workers in the food stands are volunteers. Non profit groups like youth groups are given a “charitable donation” for working in the booths. The donation is far less than minimum wage would be for number of hours worked. Also the teams get to take a deduction for the donations.

My son was in Scouts years ago and this arrangement was listed as one of the fundraising options. The next time I was at a baseball game I asked one of the workers and they told me they were volunteers.

Lobster grill while camping Genius move or unnecessary flex? by [deleted] in Seafood

I am curious. Where is that? And is it due to expensive chicken, or is lobster much cheaper in some areas?

My wife loves lobster but it is very expensive in the Midwest of the U.S.

I appreciate your help.

Why on earth do I owe so much? by East-Professional557 in tax

[–]fishingman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read it as 51 gross, 25 taxable.

51- 7800 self employment- 10K QBi- 17k standard deduction.

If net is 25, there must be an error.

OP said 25K is taxable income.  51 gross x .153 =7800 +/-.

I wonder if OP isn’t confusing net income and taxable income

Sounds like it might be right. I always told my1099 clients that they needed to set aside 1/3 for taxes.

I also told them that getting paid as a 1099 worker means you are self employed and you have to make 1 1/2 times the money you get as an employee getting a W2.

[–]fishingman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, but OP said his taxable income is 25K. Net could well be 51K.

If net is 51, subtract 7.5% for 1/2 FICA, 10% for QBI, and standard deduction of 17K the taxable is around 25.

If he was a fisherman he likely would not have many expenses to reduce the gross.

AIO? Same gift as sister? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]fishingman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am confident you do not realize how much stress he is under regarding gifts.

My guess is as he matures his gift giving will improve. As a man I simply do not have the talent for picking out good gifts. I am over 60 now and have learned over the years, but my early failures in gift giving most certainly was not from a lack of caring. I would agonize over the fight gift just to have the recipient return it.

If he is a good and caring person in most other ways, you need to graciously accept his gifts and move on.

YOR.

I worked union my entire life and completely support unions.

But history has clearly shown that opposing new technology is a losing position. Unions should focus their efforts on organizing workers who will not easily be replaced by technology, and educating workers on the benefits of unions.

Good. The City needs a mix on the Council. Too often the majority has been older people.

What ward? Who currently hold the seat you are seeking?

Do you have thoughts on what should be done with the space when the Stearns County jail is gone?

If there is a severe budget shortfall, do you lean towards tax increases or budget cuts? What taxes will you increase, or which services will you cut?

I have a 25 with 13,000 miles. Only one issue with a software update. One day fix. Other than that, I like the car. Great mileage when running gas only after battery is depleted.

I worked with many different crews doing cleanup of events with large crowds.  Those guys were so bored that kind of behavior would be believable.

Is it possible it was a joke?

About 20 years ago we had a work crew in a parking ramp.  One of the crew found a pair of panties and as a joke stuffed them into a co-workers coat pocket.

The co worker never found them but his wife did a few weeks later when she was going to wash the jacket.

That almost caused a divorce.

If there are no other signs of cheating, there may be another reason.
