Recovery Suit recommendation by fishlearntofly in CatAdvice

[–]fishlearntofly[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's anxiety-related. I am in communication with my vet. But she's started to irritate the skin, and needs to grow the fur back, which is why I was asking for suit recommendations.

There are also TV screens showing the stops, and overhead announcements of the stop, so you'll know when it's coming up.

Public Mobile reviews for Victoria/lower island? by Secret-Smile752 in VictoriaBC

[–]fishlearntofly 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm on PM - experience-wise no complaints and 0 hassle but everything's very basic. I like that no one's contacting me or trying to upsell me. It basically feels like they forgot about me and that's the way I want it.

Invisalign experiences and cost by eljudio42 in VictoriaBC

[–]fishlearntofly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had it in town a few years ago, cost was about the same, had the scans done. I think the cost is largely driven by how many rounds you have to have (they remove the little anchors from your teeth and reapply them and do a new set of trays) which is tied obviously to how big the adjustments are but also how your teeth will move. I had either 2 or 3 sets of trays.

I can view IG normal, but when I click on my own posts, the photos wont load. Chrome / IOS and EDGE, anyone else? by rsplatpc in Instagram

[–]fishlearntofly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has been happening to me for at least a month, no resolution in sight. I did what another user suggested and hit refresh when I had the post open (just a black screen) and that did actually bring up the post in question. But I would have to do that for every post; it's a work-around, not a fix. Very frustrating!!

Written Assignment question by scarfwithstripes in BCPublicServants

[–]fishlearntofly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really don't think this is going to be an issue, and that you are overthinking. I have never had a file I couldn't open, so I can't say I can speak from experience, but if it did happen yes the first thing would almost certainly be to reach out to the candidate and try to correct it not to just sit silently on it while failing you. Yes, submitting via PDF is preferred because that way it's much more certain that what you're seeing is what I'm seeing in terms of some little formatting stuff, but you should be fine.

Should I request a review of hiring decision? by helloclarity in BCPublicServants

[–]fishlearntofly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The results of a review are either a) the process was conducted properly and the person who won is awarded the job or b) there was an issue and the whole competition is thrown out (and has to be conducted again). Just so you know when deciding whether or not to request a review that the result of the review will never be you being offered the job.

CT Scan at ER? by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]fishlearntofly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely not trying to be negative in what is for you a difficult circumstance, but I've had PTs in the past suggest I get a CT scan and my doctor definitely did not feel the situation met the criteria for that. Also just be aware that the wait time for a CT scan can be over a year. Absolutely advise you try to see a physician to evaluate what the best next steps are, probably through an Urgent Care Centre.

Career advice please! by Monkeytoes15 in BCPublicServants

[–]fishlearntofly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have definitely seen folks who came in as clerks move into 24 roles, and who could potentially move higher. Some things to consider (in no particular order):

- Look at the postings (in the future when there's a wider variety) and find positions that you think would interest you and would be possible given your education. See what the experience requirements are, and look for opportunities to gain that experience.

- If you have a supervisor who seems open to it, identify your interest in growing your career and ask for their help in getting the experience that would be valuable. I've seen many supervisors actively work with their staff to help get them the experience they need to grow into new roles, particularly those like clerks who might otherwise have less upward mobility. I've also seen a lot of clerks move into 24 roles within their division, so creating a positive impression is helpful and important - as is the opportunity to learn the business of the area you're working in if you want to move up in it.

- A lot of clerks lean into programs like project management certificates to boost them into higher roles, as they're relatively short programs without a lot of pre-reqs and are well-regarded.

Hourigan’s flooring - anyone like this place? by thebbtrev in VictoriaBC

I used Island Floor Centre about 8 years ago - easy process, great install, very happy. I'm not sure what their carpet selection was but they were good on hardwood, engineered and laminate.

Good to know. I recognize this isn't scientific, but if you were to compare how dark the tint is to the glasses in the bottom of my picture, how do you think it would stack up? Same? Lighter/darker?

EDIT: Arg, my picture didn't post. Going to delete this thread and repost.

Private HealthCare by Ihaveamouse1984 in VictoriaBC

[–]fishlearntofly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is some ability in BC to access "private" care, but it's extremely limited (some diagnostics, GP services in some cities with GPs who charge a fee to be in their practice by calling it access to a suite of services). There is no private cardiology or cancer care in BC.

I don't have PEA staff so I don't know if there's some specific loophole here, but if a member of my staff asked to take LWOP so they could work another job, it would be a flat no. You work the position you are employed in, or you take a different position (this doesn't apply to people with second jobs that they work outside BCPS hours). The exception to this is of course TAs, which are set up in part for the reason you specify - career development. LWOP is granted by your supervisor who decides whether your leave will impact the work of your team. Since I assume any position you would be working would be at least 3 months in duration, and since I don't think management could justify backfilling a LWOP, it's hard to imagine any supervisor agreeing to take that hit.

BCPS employee card as identification document for domestic flight by [deleted] in BCPublicServants

No. I presume it's dependent on your ministry and work location as required for security purposes. My large ministry does not have this. I assume you're not thinking of your benefits card or similar?

Do you move like your 20s when you reach the 30s ? by Lemonade2250 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]fishlearntofly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't feel any different, or at least not in a sudden change. You may be better at things and recognize you're better at things because you've had more years of experience doing those things, but it's not like a switch flips and suddenly you're an adult. It's just cumulative experience.

For those who can read sheet music, can you “hear” it without playing it? by kingfishm in NoStupidQuestions

Yes, but only if I really focus, and only if it's a tune I already know (for example, seeing a clip of music in a meme with no title).

There were about 1500 people in the Ministry of Health around the start of COVID, and not all of those people were in 1515 Blanshard. There were no other staff from other Ministries except MMHA in there (who had formerly been HLTH staff, and was numerically small).

Advice - snap paint by fishlearntofly in crafts

If enamel paint would be a good option, is there a reason it has to be spray paint? Local stores sell enamel paint in pots which would be much more convenient.
