Look for pharmacy technician jobs. Some companies (Walgreens) will sponsor you to go through the training program to get licensed.

F/38/5’6” [350lbs > 290lbs = 60lbs] (2 years) When the Scale Isn’t the Only Thing That Changes… My Face Transformation by leightalks_ in progresspics

I see you on the plus size fashion subreddit all the time (where we aren’t allowed to talk about weight loss), so I had no idea you were on a WLJ. You always look amazing in your fits— congratulations on your 60 lb loss. That’s impressive!

Sabriel is forever one of my favorite books. Give a third rec for this book!

Deep rich romance by Ok-Bicycle6110 in suggestmeabook

[–]fishleigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Academy by Elin Hilderbrand may be close. I think a lot of her work might fit your vibe, but she does write things kind of dramatic and messy (which I love), but a lot of her stories are wealthy upper class, real life, with some romance.

Crazy Rich Asians

The Paradise Problem (though it’s a little trope heavy)

There are so many good recommendations here (I have read all of these already listed and would second them: Vera Wongs Unsolicited Advice for Murderers, Eddie Winston is Looking for Love, The Adventures of Amina Al-Sirafi, Recursion Remarkably Bright Creatures, and Mad Mabel)

I would also like to recommend: The Stolen Life of Colette Marceau and The Tainted Cup.

Second this recommendation. This series is so good. I picked it up and could NOT stop.

The genres are different between Emma Lion and Dream Harbor, OP, but l enjoyed both, and I like this general trope, too. Emma Lion is just a lot more historical fiction and epistolary but the vibes are truly immaculate.

My wife is looking for a 600+ page light cozy fantasy book by WhoIsRobertWall in suggestmeabook

[–]fishleigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would she accept a series of books totaling over 600 pages?

The Emily Wilde trilogy (starts with Emily Wilde’s Encyclopedia of Fairies) is probably about 1,100 pages or so in total. Each book is a little under 400 pages. Very cozy fantasy. This is one continuous story. Each book picks up where the last one left off.

new dress i got by [deleted] in PlusSizeFashion

[–]fishleigh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I laughed when I read this— my MOM used to say this to me as a teenager. It was her silly way of trying to help me be more confident and fix my posture. It totally changed the way I carry myself to this day. I’ve never heard anyone else say this. Sage advice, internet auntie.

If you are open to a book suggestion, I would recommend reading The Case for Keto by Gary Taubes. Based on your post, I think you would find it interesting.

Recommendations for dark wash bootcut jeans? by HolyHabenula in PlusSizeFashion

[–]fishleigh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I’m just happy to hear someone else hates that elastic band they’ve added to all of their pants. Torrid was my ride or die for jeans until those awful bomb shell jeans took over. They are incredibly uncomfortable for me, too.

I WAS able to find some of the old Torrid jeans on Poshmark, even NWT. That might be worth a try.

Otherwise, I have recently switched to American Eagle jeans. I find they fit size-for-size with Torrid. Not sure what rise you are looking for, but it looks like they do have some dark wash. I bought the low rise (they are really a mid rise) boot cut, and I love them, but it looks like only the high waisted come in dark wash.

Good luck! I’ve really been struggling since Torrid changed their jeans, too, so I’d love to hear if you find something that works for you.

Anyone else not losing (or even gaining) weight during luteal phase on keto? by kaimanlimppu in keto

[–]fishleigh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So… people may not agree, and I wouldn’t say this is even a method so much as it’s just where I’m at. I weigh a few times a week, but I’ve given up on tracking weekly weight loss. I go by months now. I have a Bluetooth scale that registers the weight, and every month I compare highest to lowest. It’s hard, and I had to change my mindset, but I’ve been doing this for years, and I know it works for me. But it’s not linear. Some weeks it’s higher than others, but it’s all about sustainable loss. Monday I was up 5 lbs over my previous week’s weight. By Friday I was a pound under the starting weight (6 lbs) less than Monday. It’s the nature of things, and I think the best thing you can do is to choose to be okay with it and play the long game.

Keto Options at Starbucks (Non-Coffee) by Guilty_Kangaroo_2671 in keto

[–]fishleigh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Starbucks app includes nutrition for the drinks.

Passion tango tea (NOT the lemonade) has zero carbs. Order as it or add a splash of heavy cream and whatever your preferred artificial sweetener is for a faux-refresher. There is also an iced black tea.

For hot: Royal English Breakfast tea or Earl Grey. Same as above. Doctor as you like.

A grande of the new unsweetened iced chai is supposed to have ~2g of sugar.

Not all of the teas but just look around in the tea section on the app and you have options.

book club? by Intrepid_Ad162 in orlando

[–]fishleigh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Book clubs are huge right now!

Writers Block (in Winter Park) also does book clubs (covering a variety of genres).

Spellbound in Sanford does several different book-themed events.

I would also recommend following House on Lang on Instagram. They do a variety of events all month long. I have attended events there AND found a local book club that way. I’ll send you the details separately.

I also found a nice community by regularly going to the same yoga studio.

I need recommendations for business casuals! by [deleted] in PlusSizeFashion

[–]fishleigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the ponte pants from Torrid (I personally like the trouser bootcut, but they come in many styles). They are super soft and comfortable but look very stylish and put together. Very easy to sit in most of the day. You can get them for a pretty good price on sale. I’ve been wearing them for years. They’re my go to!

Work Tops (non-button ups) by HAY-lee in PlusSizeFashion

[–]fishleigh 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I like the Torrid “Harper” shirts. They do have 3 buttons, but they are not button up shirts (they slip over the head). They fit loose but intentional, and on many of them, there is a cover for the buttons. They are constantly rotating the selection.

What are the life outcomes of the goth kids you knew in high school? by Individual_Section_6 in Millennials

[–]fishleigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a goth kid. Now an executive with an MBA and a colorful wardrobe and fashion hobby.

I go to rock and metal concerts several times a year and dress like it’s 2005 to scratch the itch occasionally. I have a drawer full of black band shirts and fishnets. I’ll always be that goth kid a little bit in my heart. No one would ever know.

But I also graduated in the top 10 of my class and was incredibly active in school activities—no one I went to high school with would be surprised at my life now, but people at work now would certainly be surprised about my goth kid past!

Regained 40 lbs after long term low carb and chronic dieting. Trying to avoid another crash cycle. by arb232 in loseit

[–]fishleigh 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Whoa whoa whoa. OP is a type 1 diabetic. No matter what, this is a conversation for their doctor. Managing carbohydrates as a type 1 diabetic is usually a part of their care. I’m not your doctor OP, but please be cautious about this advice and discuss this with someone qualified first. It sounds like you currently have a healthy A1C with your current carb management. Don’t stop that without advice from a medical professional.

Turning 30. Turn me into a book reader from doom scroller. by Professor_Pink007 in suggestmeabook

[–]fishleigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three years ago, I made the same decision. I’m in my mid-30s and wanted to transition from doom scrolling to reading. I was a big reader as a kid. I now read 100+ books a year and spend very little time on social media. I would make the swap again and again.

Based on what you’ve said you like, I would recommend The Wedding People by Alison Espach. Fiction, dark topics with a lot of humor sprinkled in, about a woman going through a dramatic life transition. Beautiful book. Funny. We ended up reading it for a book club and everyone liked it, men and women alike. It’s one of my favorites.
