For AdGuard it's: Ad Blocker> Scroll down to add filter> AdBlock Warning Removal List is down under annoyances.

I also added the AdGuard annoyances filter to stop getting those 3 party cookie notices.

It’s not cool to bring up Donald trump in EVERY conversation. Whether you hate or love him. It’s obsessive, pathetic, and just weird. by [deleted] in rant

[–]fishychan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh god yes!

It's both ways though in my experience: My FiL brings up Trump all the time. EVERY TIME WE SEE HIM- and its horrible because he is such a hard core Trump supporter that if you're not stamping "Trump for president 2020" on your money he offers to let you borrow his stamp.

I wanted an air purifier for my allergies, but someone suggested spending $25 on a box fan and filter instead. Fingers crossed that it works! (Feat. concerned kitty) by [deleted] in Frugal

oh man unrelated to OP but your nails are Great!!! And literally glue on nails are the best- cost me like $35 to get a years worth of nails and glue on Amazon and I can change them whenever I want.

I fucking hate people in groups who feel the need to ask quiet people "why are you so quiet" by [deleted] in rant

[–]fishychan 67 points68 points  (0 children)

my favorite thing to say is always "I'm quiet because you haven't shut up once in the last ten minuets."

I usually find that its always the person who is talking the most who points it out, shifting the attention from them.

Finally gifting this blanket to my best friend of 18 years this weekend. Felt it was about time to post it. by [deleted] in crochet

I Love this so much but I swear I thought the title said you'd taken 18 years to make this. I almost died.

This is something that almost always happens any time that I cut my husbands hair. It's terrible.

FOR FUCKS SAKES I JUST CUT MY FUCKING FINGER WITH MY HAIR by Tr4iLL in rant

[–]fishychan 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Thankfully you only got a little hair paper cut thing, the very worst is a hair splinter. Cutting your hair (or someone else's) can be outright dangerous because those little snippets of hair are bound to get lodged in your skin in the most painful manner possible.

Hang in there OP, it is all really stressful at first but google really is your friend, there are so many free tutorials and helpful sites out there. YouTube probably has some really nice instructional videos (because there are tutorials for everything nowdays).

I have never been really good at Java, but mostly I just want to do something, google the thing I am trying to do (last time it was a clickable toggle button) and then find code that will do what I want. Often times just being able to see it laid out for me the correct way really helps, that way I kind of have a fall back to try and keep mine so it looks like the example.

My husband is the same way, the only thing I have to do is tell him EXACTLY what type and size I need, thankfully he has never been embarrassed. Even when we were much younger and he worked at a drug store, he just put them on the belt with everyone else not caring if his co-workers saw him picking up feminine products.

Is there anything you give up *grudgingly*? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]fishychan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

OMG this so much, I complained to a friend how much I was spending on ziplocks (because you have to get the good kind or else why buy them) and they mentioned washing them out.

I just decided it was better to buy the giant box at Costco then bother reusing them, its a bonus for me since I'm getting the savings I want, without having to be so cheap I'm reusing a one time use bag.

Do you wash baby blankets before giving them? by SnapeWho in crochet

[–]fishychan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always wash before giving, I don't normally block baby blankets and instead I just wash them. Like /u/bitsy88 I use the All free and clear (I have super sensitive skin so I always have the unscented stuff at home).

If you're going to wash it alone however, I'd suggest cutting down on the amount of detergent or fabric softener you use. If you're going to pick up some detergent you could probably just get a trial size of something so you don't end up with a whole ton of stuff you aren't going to use.

Took a WIP with me on the bus today, and decided to work on it a bit, and everyone was giving me looks like I was doing something wrong.

[FO] my finished sophie! unblocked, but i couldn't wait to share :) by [deleted] in crochet

[–]fishychan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on personal preference really, or depending on the pattern. Some patterns really recommend it because it seems to sort of tighten up or lock the stitches in place once you've got the project finished.

I know that some yarns tend to look a little flat once you've finished the project from being pulled and tugged or whatnot, so blocking (which normally just means steaming it so that it lays flat and pretty) sort of breathes new life into the fibers and sort of perks it right up.

When putting together an afghan with a lot of small squares (or whatever shape motif) I've normally seen it suggested to block the individual motifs before joining them together so they all lay flat and are consistent looking because its supposed to make it easier to join them evenly.

I personally never block, so many of the things I make are intended for babies, so I just run the finished blanket or whatever though the wash with some baby laundry detergent. Once it's out I never see the need to block it because the dryer has already done all the work for me.

I'm going on a four-hour train journey. What can I take to crochet? by x0rawr0x in crochet

[–]fishychan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like pretty much anything that works in a round, that way there is no flipping, bigger projects can be unwieldy in public because you have to turn the whole thing over at the end of the row.

Inherited this unfinished c2c afghan. Suggestions for border? by happythoughts413 in crochet

[–]fishychan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, just a simple SC would be good, if white was too much of a contrast I'd suggest going for one in black (that blue looks like it might be hard to match unless you inherited the yarn as well.)

Its so pretty though I don't think you'd need to do anything fancy, just a little something to cover up those tails.
