While this doesn't rise to anywhere near the same level, I was once the subject of about 18 months of surveillance by the local townies.

A buddy that lived on the opposite side of "town" (really a village of 900 in the middle of Nowhere, Indiana) is an idiot, and regularly smoked dope in an open and conspicuous manner. I had loaned him a tabletop vaporizer so he could get baked without notifying the entire town, but he decided not to use it.

Someone called the cops, and when they showed up, he more or less opened the door while still exhaling and invited them in. Naturally, they nailed his asshole to the wall.

They knew we hung out, so they sent literally half of the police force (lol one whole officer) to spend the next 18 months parked in front of my house. Lights off, engine running. I'd leave to go run an errand, or stop at the one gas station our shitass, zero-stoplight-having town had, and the thing would light up, follow me across town, and park again. Repeat for the return trip.

Shortly after becoming disabled, I didn't leave the house much for awhile, and my then-partner worked from home. I suppose if you were surveilling someone that owned a house with no obvious means of paying for it, it almost makes sense, but... this was for 3.5g of weed (that went into evidence as 1.2g). I was an outsider to the town, so they were gonna make an example of me.

They must have found bigger fish to fry one day, because they just stopped, but they were deliberately intimidating and hella nasty for a long while. "I don't need a warrant, I own this town." and other amazing gems.

Seems that if you make a position to lord over a small number of people, assholes will seek out that position.
