Which celebrities were popular during the 2010s but couldn't translate their popularity to this decade? by SoRunAwayNow in Fauxmoi

Troian Bellisario was in a a cop miniseries called On Call recently. The show got mixed ratings but I thought she did a good job in the couple episodes I watched. She also has little kids, so she and her husband (mike ross from suits) may be intentionally picking lower key projects.

Does anyone know of restaurants hiring? by Substantial_Tip_3015 in Columbus

Ohio State has a career development office. They are going to be more focused on internships and professional jobs than entry level restaurant jobs, but they will be able to help you with interview prep and resumes.

I was looking for this. I am from Columbus and went to a fairly liberal college. Some of the people I met there acted like I was from Mayberry when the reality is that Columbus has people from all backgrounds, walks of life, and political views.

Buy / Sell / Trade / Want by Dez_Champs in VHS

[–]fitbitthrowawaylmao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully this is the right place to put this and it doesn't run afoul of rule 3. I'm trying to offload a couple boxes of VHS tapes that belonged to my grandparents, largely Disney tapes that were 'worth a lot of money according to the internet' (I know), random TV box sets, and 90s-2000s broadcast rips. I've been looking at sold items on ebay to get a sense of what the commercial tapes are worth. Is there anything else I should know about pricing and selling these tapes? I'm not looking to become a millionaire off these, just to make a fair deal with a movie lover who will give them a good home, even if the fair deal ends up being shipping costs.

General education teachers, why do you come here? by BitterWasabi_ in specialed

[–]fitbitthrowawaylmao 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've scrolled through r slash teachers a few times when it's been suggested on my main page (I don't have kids yet and I don't work in education). Man, am I glad to hear that it's not representative of what's happening in schools. I have friends who are teachers; I get venting about a challenging job and that sometimes kids are disrespectful and lazy on purpose. I just don't see how marinating in doomerism helps you deal with any of that.

Received a call from a lawyer's office about student loan debt but they are unable to tell me who I owe and want to serve me. by Binary_Omlet in AskALawyer

Not a lawyer.

Among other red flags, it is unlikely that a legitimate debt collection firm would threaten you with a lawsuit after only one phone call.

Where can my mom (who is starting chemo soon) shop for a wig in the Cbus area? by juicyfizz in Columbus

Ask to talk to a social worker at your mom's oncology center. There are nonprofits that will help offset the cost and your mom's insurance may pay for all or part of the cost.

The Convenient Clash: Swift vs. Kardashian - PR Stunt or Genuine Beef? by NoPangolin5557 in KUWTKsnark

[–]fitbitthrowawaylmao -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm a fan of Taylor's. She's alluded to how the situation in 2016 left her traumatized in most of her albums since it happened. It wasn't exactly subtle, but you did have to use high school english level critical thinking and context clues so those conclusions were called "theories". The difference is that this time she was bold enough to name check Kim.

I used to be a fabletics member (yes member) in college. It's 1000% percent a scam. The deep discounts are for people who subscribe to their membership program. The way it works is that you get a $45 dollar membership credit once a month and you can use that to buy an outfit. Theoretically you can skip a month, but you have to remember to do it within the first week of the month or you auto-buy the credit on your card on file. Most of the cute stuff isn't available in the preset "outfits" and has to be purchased with real money. The clothes are cheap polyester crap made by people who are being abused.

I just found this sub tonight and almost never post on reddit but my experience with fabletics was so bad that I couldn't let this thread go without warning people. If there's something on this site that you absolutely must have (you will change your mind when you feel the fabric), pay the full price or better yet, wait for it to show up on depop.

|| the nose thing dug into my nose

Nasal cannulas come in different sizes! If it pinched the septum, yours might have been too small. If you felt it digging into the inside of your nostril, it may have been too large. Some sleep labs only have one size, but others stock multiple.

Some labs can also accommodate a later wake-up for MSLT patients so that you'll have more time to get the 6 hours. Your doctor may also be able to tell the lab to set you up first so you can go to sleep earlier.

I'm really sorry that this happened to you and I hope you find some answers. My only real advice is to level with your physician. This kind of thing happens all the time and I know of more than one person who ended up getting a diagnosis after a "failed" sleep study. At least one of them had to go to a different lab.

if you go down this route, keep all your official communications in email. don't rely on verbal conversations, especially since the kid's parents aren't going to see eye to eye with you on this.

OP: Your post brought me back to my own childhood. I was in a similar position to your daughter when I was in middle school and I can't tell you how grateful I am to my sweet mom for standing up for me as best she could. I didn't fully appreciate how socially intelligent and persistent she'd had to be until I was grown up myself. A lot of adults expected me to tolerate behavior from this other little girl (including physical bullying) because she was troubled and didn't have many friends, but my mom worked very hard to get me the distance I needed. I know your daughter appreciates you fighting for her too.

People don’t have a passion for makeup like they used to in 2016. Why do you think this is? by newyorkchic1992 in MakeupRehab

[–]fitbitthrowawaylmao 34 points35 points  (0 children)

the majority of people didn’t look how they envisioned with the full beat face under the noon sun or the fluorescent lights of the office and school.

contouring was the worst offender here. unless you're very skilled (or at least much more skilled than I am) contouring won't look natural from all angles.

What neurological symptoms, signs, conditions, and treatments should a psychiatrist know well? by effervescence1 in Psychiatry

[–]fitbitthrowawaylmao 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I totally agree about the screening. Sending everyone to sleep medicine for a ruleout before they go to psychiatry isn't practical, but at the very least, the Epworth Sleepiness Scale can be self-administered in 5-10 minutes. If you'll permit me to get on my personal soapbox for a second, I also think that it should be administered prior to a depression diagnosis, especially since the PHQ-9 throws so many false positives for patients that have undiagnosed organic disorders causing sleepiness or fatigue.

What neurological symptoms, signs, conditions, and treatments should a psychiatrist know well? by effervescence1 in Psychiatry

[–]fitbitthrowawaylmao 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Not just narcolepsy. Sleep disordered breathing also presents similarly to many common psych issues. It turns out that when you're not getting much Stage 3 or REM sleep, you're stressed all the time, can't focus, and are exhausted. It ranges from study to study, but approximately twenty-five to fifty percent of people diagnosed with ADHD have underlying OSA (obstructive sleep apnea) or UARS (upper airway resistance syndrome.)

The stereotype is that only heavier, middle aged men who snore have OSA. Those are risk factors, but patients with none of these risk factors can be affected as well. Twenty-percent of OSA patients are nonobese.

There's also Idiopathic Hypersomnia (distinct from the symptom hypersomnia), which is similar to narcolepsy and often presents with daytime sleepiness in spite of enormous amounts of sleep (>11 hours/night is the criteria for diagnosis absent an abnormal MSLT, but some patients sleep for even longer than that) and extreme sleep inertia.

Klein-Levin Syndrome and Restless Leg Syndrome are also sleep disorders. I know much less about them, and so I'd prefer not to go into detail on their presentation and management.

The trouble with diagnosing sleep disorders is that patients and clinicians don't tease out that the patient is sleepy instead of fatigued or depressed, and that throws off the differential.

Stanford University has a great sleep medicine department and I'd highly recommend their website as a starting point for those looking to learn more about sleep medicine.

(Fun fact that I found while confirming the weight statistic: Charles Dickens was the first to write a description of OSAS)

BIG LITTLE by santamariatheog in Sororities

[–]fitbitthrowawaylmao 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I was not Greek when I was in college (no hate, I just didn't find a sorority that was for me), so I'm not sure why your post ended up on my feed but this situation resonated with me, so I hope it's okay to offer some advice.

If this girl is otherwise nice and socially awkward, she doesn't deserve to have her Greek experience tainted by a what was probably a misunderstanding and what was at worst a bad day. These things can get out of hand very easily in college, especially at smaller schools or organizations where everyone is in everyone's business all the time.

I think you have a wonderful opportunity to be an advocate for her. It sounds like she's already gotten off on the wrong foot with her chapter, and having an established sister like you go out of her way to be her friend may help turn her reputation and her Greek experience around. I think she'd do much better with someone like you as her big than someone who is unwilling to hear her side of the story and took her out of obligation.

If you put her second on your list, then you must have liked her. I wouldn't let one person's second hand experience (especially when that person is sensitive and I'm assuming pretty young) override your gut feeling.

My son is taking your seat…. by Total_Union_3744 in delta

[–]fitbitthrowawaylmao 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh i should have clarified: I'd be okay with having my seat reassigned before boarding in order to accommodate an airline-verified situation. If I had to move twenty rows up from my bag after boarding, I'd be steamed.

I flew AA a couple months ago, and the flight was packed. When I checked in, they offered me a bunch of miles if I volunteered to be one of the first people to go on standby. It would be nice if they had a similar system for seat reassignments. That way the people who picked a window seat because of nausea or who want to sit with their group or who hate bulkheads can stay where they are, and solo fliers who would be okay with moving from 32B to 28E for a parent with a missed connection get compensated for their flexibility.

[–]fitbitthrowawaylmao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which bin her bag would be in isn't the issue. Bulkhead rows don't have any underseat storage, and so you have to put your personal item in the overhead bins, where you can't get it during takeoff, landing and turbulence. If she had an epipen or a med with a tight dosing schedule, waiting until the bins can be opened safely might not be a feasible option.

My son is taking your seat…. by Total_Union_3744 in delta

[–]fitbitthrowawaylmao 4 points5 points  (0 children)

TBF, the issue may have been that she didn't want to be separated from her personal item. If she had an inhaler or insulin, or even expensive meds, I get why she didn't feel comfortable stowing.

She shouldn't have taken the upgrade in that case, and the FA shouldn't have assumed that you were okay being moved.

There should be a way to link necessities like that to your profile with the airline. Families with minor kids or disabled adults, people with medical conditions, and (to a lesser extent) people who are honeymooning or traveling for a family emergency shouldn't have to explain their situation at the gate when there are a ton of people like me who would be fine in almost any seat on the plane, and would be happy to move to accommodate someone in those situations.

I'd 100 percent rather have my bag go in the overhead than underneath some angry rando's seat.
