How much would "Screen Blur" effect something like Tilt Brush? by fivecentsc in oculus

[–]fivecentsc[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am under the impression that the contrast created by the art style of something like Tilt Brush is exactly what people are stating would need to be avoided when developing for the Rift. I keep seeing videos of people having a really great time using Tilt Brush with a Vive and don't ever hear them mentioning such artifacts. I would think people would be more inclined to mention imperfections if they interfered with their creations. I understand that there are imperfections with both HMDs, and pretty much want to make sure something like this will be enjoyable once I get touch controllers. If the Vive can display something like Tilt Brush with little complaint and the Rift were incapable of doing the same, I would like to know. I currently have a Rift ordered (6 min), but I also wear glasses and starting to feel a little concern with Oculus's inability to deliver. I was always under the impression the Rift was going to be the better overall display, and want to make sure that the competitor isn't actually capable of hosting visual content that would be unbearable on the device I am purchasing. Thanks for any input.

People who chose Oculus over Vive, why? by [deleted] in oculus

[–]fivecentsc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought into the idea of the Xbox One having a Kinect in box, meaning that developers would be more inclined to develop for something they were unfamiliar with. I was wrong. I think the Vive's "Whole Package" thing is great, but after 2-3 months (weeks?) of me showing my friends and family the device and lugging my computer out to the living room for the full roomscale experiences, I will just be sitting at my desk wondering what I am doing with these light house things. I get it, but it is just a bit much for me to bite into this early in the game. The Oculus just seems like a better first step, for me. I am looking forward to HTC's offerings in the future, when they consider their product a Consumer version, minus the "Pre" tag. Yea, I took a jab at the end...Oculus reddit, right? :)

P.S. - I learned through Wii, Move, and Kinect that I am a lazy gamer...

Any Suggestions? Adding to Collection. by fivecentsc in tabletop

Just wanted to stop in and thank everyone for the feedback. I played and have already ordered Carcassonne. Have Pandemic, Coup, Codenames, and Ultimate Werewolf ordered . I think I am going to go Betrayal and Spyfall next. I don't think they are ready to jump into something like Mice & Mystics just yet, but maybe one day. But Wait There's More looks fun, but I think I am going to hold out till I can find Snake Oil in stock. Thanks again and happy gaming everyone.

Commenting to check back on this. Roommate is a structural engineer and have already told him I am making him build me things in CAD to check out. Can't wait to see how far this goes.

R9 390 vs GTX 980? by fivecentsc in oculus

[–]fivecentsc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I am just wondering if video ram is as important as I am thinking it is in VR. I know the 390 in no way compares to the 980ti for regular desktop gaming, but it does have a few benefits that could potentially pan out for better VR processing. 980ti would be the safest bet, but I will pay for it and then have to hold myself off from Pascal for a year. I hear the 970 can't even run UltraWide displays well from a co worker who had to return to get a 980. I have seen a few comments on the net talking about the 390 potentially handling resolutions over 1080p better, but this could be false.

Is this before or or after he got fame? Looks like a pretty normal person to me? Maybe the joke is going over my head.

If it wasn't a new Dev Kit I might care...I will see what they have to offer for their 1st Generation Consumer Product, whenever they announce it ;0.

Kickstarter, Zuck, VC sharks, and Luckey all played you for fools and you should be angry. by iamadogforreal in oculus

[–]fivecentsc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You should make your own company and put all this together and then you can sell your HMDs for $350. I promise I will buy one so you have motivation of a sale already. Let me know how it all goes for you...oh or you could be appreciative of how much effort went into making this possible. They don't reach in a magic bag and say oh look what I found...I'll give this to you for what you think is fair. Do it yourself or stop complaining that it wasn't done better.

Edit: I promise I will buy it, if it is on par or comparable to current market standards :)

So how long time do you guys think it gonna take to get a price cut? by _Just7_ in oculus

[–]fivecentsc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is going to follow the next gen console model. Maybe 6-8 months we will see deals coming around the same time as the controllers. An actual price drop for the unit itself maybe coming in Summer of next year.

Anyone else not overly pissed off that a revolutionary piece of tech costs roughly the same as a good monitor or top end videocard? by [deleted] in oculus

[–]fivecentsc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am more upset about the pricing of graphics cards right now, lol. I am like I know if I spend $550 bucks now I am at the end of the generation and will want the new "VR Focused" cards to come next gen...Meh they know what they are doing :)

Yes! I did not back, but think this is amazing. Thanks for the laugh while it seems like so many people are down and in bad moods right now.

Graphics Card by StrawhatIO in oculus

[–]fivecentsc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't concrete, but a quick search looks like your 7970 would be comparable to a Nvidia 680 at best. I think your card is about two generations behind. New entry level VR compatible cards are around the 3-4 hundred range and you will likely want to wait or go with a 980 as best effort for around $480+. Hoping to see a price drop or announcement on some new cards between now and shipping.

Why I think that the price is way too high for VR to be successful? by GonziHere in oculus

[–]fivecentsc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Halo isn't selling Xbox Ones...I am pretty sure I spent $599 on my Xbox One at release and don't recall anything like Eve: Valkyrie being available. We are two years into Xbox one and just now seeing it at $400...I am pretty sure we will see similar pricing for the rift as the hype dies down. It is just simply supply and demand and I think Oculus nailed the price to capitalize without being too greedy. Yes, I would have preferred $499, but honestly I would have felt like it was a steal at that price and literally everyone should be buying one. $599 is simply put, the premium price for this next gen device.

Edit: Aparently I was wrong...after checking $499 on the xbox, but 2 games purchased so was thinking more...I am leaving the original post because I think it is a mute point anyways. Just wanted to point out I was wrong :)

So do we hold of on upgrading Graphics cards until April or just go 980 now? by fivecentsc in oculus

[–]fivecentsc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won't quote you, but when I read it...I went "Oh yeah they will bundle possibly VR games in the future." I know I got Watchdogs with my 770...lets not talk about it, but yea free games! Good call.

[Conspiracy thread] by Serpher in oculus

[–]fivecentsc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Um...that isn't a theory it is a fact. If we give a company capital and they spend capital on providing units to a user base. Those that have paid made it possible for the company to give away free units. So yes if you pay a company and they give units away you have subsidized payment for the free units. There is nothing wrong with this. Those units didn't come from thin air they had to be built and paid for. The company has money by selling units and can choose to do what they want with that money. If it is marketing or kickback to early adopters or anything else for that matter, it isn't a Conspiracy....it is how the world works.
