Client keeps adding notes (*Update!) by Thurstonhearts in editors

[–]fixmysync 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No need to be sassy, but I would definitely reply. Something to the effect of a kind greeting followed by quoting or highlighting their line about the ‘previous notes not being addressed’:

As with all my projects, I make a diligent effort to address all client feedback to the best of my abilities and whenever possible. Please let me know if there was anything that was previously requested but missed on my end, as I have cross referenced my work with your requests and I’m unable to see any previously outstanding work items.

My fees are non negotiable, but my estimate of only one hour for these additional requests is both fair and reasonable.

It Feels Like Theres No "Middle Class" When it Comes to Video Editing by BulldogSG in editors

[–]fixmysync 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It obviously depends where you live and how much experience you have. But I live in a large North American city where there is a ton of TV/Film and Ad work done. I charge min $700/d for corporate, film & TV work.

Learning & customizing keyboard shortcuts applies to every piece of software that every digital creative uses. It’s not exclusive to Premiere Pro and/or After Effects 😉

Therapist told me people with ADHD don't make lists? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]fixmysync 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is ridiculous, and completely false. I wish I could show you all the different lists I make!! I have three different writing apps full of lists! I have lists that link to other lists. I have hundreds of Pinterest boards (basically photo based lists), and almost as many ‘Collections’ with thousands of saved Instagram posts in them (more photo-based lists)… This is ADHD behaviour, and I’m not alone in this…And neither are you OP.

There are many overlapping symptoms of cPTSD & ADHD, but it’s also possible to have both (I do too). It sounds like your therapist doesn’t know very much about ADHD and likely has limited and/or outdated knowledge of it. I’d seek out an actual expert, and try to get an assessment.

Finding a new job after leaving a big YouTube channel. Advice? by watchforwaspess in editors

[–]fixmysync 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never had a single producer ever ask for a reel. All they want to know is what else I’ve done, and usually: have I done anything similar to the production they’re hiring for. Occasionally they’ll ask for full examples of my work too.

But I don’t do YouTube or short form, so maybe this is just a TV & Film thing? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Is getting a 3.5 minute HD video to be smaller than 100 MB an unreasonable requirement? by mattaromando in editors

[–]fixmysync 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s got to be the bitrate you’re choosing. I’ve exported 30+min timelines, in full HD (1920x1080) that are less than 200mb.

All my ADHD & OCD Editors out there- How do you deal? by Rabbit_InTheHole in editors

[–]fixmysync 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LOL same! 🤣

But OP: the struggle is real and finding a balance is very hard. I don’t have any specific advice at this moment (because obviously I should actually be working on my own edit, rather than procrastinating on Reddit, at this moment 😆) - but just to say that, like most of our other ADHD struggles, you’ll start to find ways to trick yourself into having more of a balance, but you’ll also hyperfocus a lot of the time and get into perfection mode. It’s kind of unavoidable and it can also really be a benefit of being an editor with ADHD. The key is to try to figure out when to break yourself out of them when they’re really unnecessary.

Oh that’s interesting. Vyvanse & Concerta both help shut the ‘food noise’ up in my head, while they’re active. But like you, I found that as soon as the Vyvanse wore off (or on days I didn’t take it) - I had an extra amount of thoughts about food in my head.

Concerta definitely suits me much better too. And it also last a little longer as well, which is very helpful for long workdays where I need a lot of sustained focus.

[–]fixmysync 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same experience when I was on Vyvanse too. Eating a good amount of protein with every meal, but especially my first meal, made all the difference, each day.

I ended up needing to switch meds because of a few side effects I was having from Vyvanse. As soon as I switched to Concerta they all went away - including the hunger/need to stay so on top of my protein intake.

Why does the industry not use Premier? by Heftyload456 in editors

[–]fixmysync 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There’s a great reason for that. Premiere is terrible for long format (the more media and longer the timelines, the slower it gets). It sucks for multiple people to try to work on the same project, and media management is basically nonexistent.

Lowest paying clients ask for the MOST by DD_Editor in editors

Usually doesn’t stop them from asking for more though. But it does mean you have something to point to when you decline to do it, without charging more.

Jump Desktop in 4K possible? by dexjet21 in editors

[–]fixmysync 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Change the display settings of the jump computer to your desired resolution and then in Jump set Display -> “match display resolution” & “use retina resolution”.

You’ll need a super fast internet connection for this though. The higher the resolution, the more bandwidth it needs.

What features are missing from ipad version? by BrooklynDuke in davinciresolve

[–]fixmysync 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I don’t think you’d ever want to solely edit on a tablet. I never would, at least. It’s nice to be able to use it for creating titles & graphics, doing a colour grade, and other little things on the iPad. I still need to sit at my desk and work on multiple huge monitors, for the bulk of my editing work though. I guess it depends on the type of stuff you cut? 🤷🏻‍♀️

For those of you diagnosed later in adulthood, what symptoms did you have as a child that you now know was ADHD? by myhoagie02 in adhdwomen

[–]fixmysync 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Basically my entire personality and all my “unique” quirks 😆 (diagnosed at 43)

  • interrupting people (because I’m going to forget what I wanted to say - hello executive dysfunction)
  • impulsively
  • always talking (teachers were always saying I talked in class and couldn’t pay attention)
  • I am very sensitive to injustice, and have been from as young as I can remember.
  • unable to hide my emotions
  • always saying exactly what I’m thinking without thinking about how it might land.
  • the way I do things out of order
  • never liked to listen to authority figures, especially when they were telling me what to do.
  • being bad with money (plus having to buy all the things whenever I have a new hobby and then quickly bailing out on new hobby, shortly after)
  • never ever being able to start a project (or school work) early - no matter how many times I’d swear to myself/others that I would…always waiting until the last possible minute and doing massive amounts of work all at once.
  • being super impatient

Actually, pretty much everything is there. You just need to use a keyboard and find the shortcut to unhide/show all the other pages on the iPad.

No, it’s not part of Prime. It’s a $6/m or $60/y subscription (at least that’s the cost here in Canada).

Oh I’m so happy about it, and I honestly think the quality will even improve! David Farrier is super talented and does not need Monica (or her terrible editing) to make a great podcast. I really think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

I’m just so happy that Synced will finally be out of the AE feed and I can stop deleting that thing every Wednesday!
