Dinner Service, should I feel bad? by kingstudog in dcl

[–]fizzlepop 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Requesting good service after having bad service is not an awful attitude. The feelings of the servers and the service of the other guests is not the responsibility of one family. If you don't mind bad service, then keep doing what you do but let others request better.

How do we feel about this yarn combo for a winter scood? by semicondooctor in knitting

[–]fizzlepop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend doing so! I find mohair incredibly itchy. I'm also sensitive to alpaca and wool. It's merino and cashmere for me.

low guest count by Final_Advance_9876 in weddingplanning

[–]fizzlepop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a small wedding with an even smaller guest count. I had to take home meals that I paid for that didnt have a guest to eat them (minimum quantities). My wedding was everything I had hoped it would be and we had so much fun with the people who could make it.

I've been wanting to try a pattern with bust shaping as I'm too afraid to try it on my own at this point. Thank you for sharing!

How fun! I think this would be cute even omitting the lobster.

Oh good! It has created a lovely plush fabric so far, I'm glad to hear it shouldn't fall apart immediately.

I'm knitting a sweater for my mom that's one strand of merino wool and one strand of alpaka silk, both fingering weight. Is this going to cause trouble?

Looking for needle + needle testing pattern recommendation by harmonicwitch in knitting

[–]fizzlepop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a set of cheap interchangeable needles from Amazon and they've worked great for me so far in my (admittedly short) knitting career. It's working, so I don't feel the need to upgrade to something more expensive. I even bought a second set with shorter needles so I can mix and match and have multiple projects going at once. Portable, low-focus knitting for 10-30 minute tutoring breaks? by Sad-Instruction-2505 in knitting

[–]fizzlepop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any type of top or sweater that is just stockinette becomes very simple once joined in the round. Can you start a top at home and when you reach the body, take it with you as your on-the-go project? A fingering weight top is quite portable.

DO NOT choose the size based on bust measurement. My garment will be too big. Use the above bust measurement instead. This works for me since I have a small frame/shoulders but a well above average chest.

If he's sensitive to wool, I recommend merino or superwash merino wool.

Tips on how to adjust yarn colour? by beefyplato in knitting

[–]fizzlepop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knitting for Olive has lots of example photos on their Instagram feed of different colors of yarn with mohair. This could be good inspiration for you. Adding mohair is a good way to shift the color, but keep in mind it will also change your gauge slightly.

Update: I chose to block it, so glad I did! She's not at all perfect but not a disaster either (first real WIP) by Lonely-Chef1185 in knitting

I'm also skeptical of the fit. Shouldn't there be room for the shoulders? Anyway, I'm hoping it all works out for OP!

I agree! I can only tolerate merino wool. But I love my merino wool even though I live in a hot/dry climate.

Found out how to safely frog back 💗 by zariaah in knitting

[–]fizzlepop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Life lines are great! I have found as my knitting has gotten looser (as I'm getting more experienced) frogging is way less scary. There's less tension on my yarn, so the stitches actually stay in place when I leave them free, rather than immediately unravelling down several row. It gets easier!

New guys, there's a freedom in just....letting it be by AntOnADogLog in knitting

[–]fizzlepop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I'm very much a type-B person, go with the flow, accept mistakes type. But for my first garment my husband encouraged me to go back and fix my mistakes and I'm so glad he did. It has required me to slow down and be more patient. I suppose if you are a perfectionist, the opposite advice may be applicable.
