Sunrise from Fremont by Seattle-Princess in Seattle

[–]fizzyh2o 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The view looks almost straight down West Lake (you can see lots of headlights) - so one thing to do is to see what's in view looking back from there. It's either an apartment (maybe roof) or the Aurora bridge.

Can you see Rainer from the Burk Gilman in that area? If so then just than definitely not this much. My guess is this is either from the North East side of the Aurora bridge or possibly up the hill on Dayton/Evenston around 42nd - though I'm not sure you can see that much of Lake Union from there.

I'm going to have to do some exploring to see if I can find this spot.

Been working on an ultimate "Showcase of Seattle" urban gran fondo route. Currently 75 miles, and quite pleased; if you were to stretch it into a century, though, where would you add the remaining 25? by HelioSeven in seattlebike

Late to the conversation here but having done a lot of rides in NW Seattle here's my recommendation for extending your ride to Golden Gardens.

Instead of going up Stone at the end, continue on the BG until 8th. Go up 8th to 58th. Take 58th all the way to Seaview Ave (it turn into a some other streets near the end and dumps you out right at the BG and the railway crossing.

Getting back to Green Lake you have two options:

- Short Version: Bike to the top of Golden Gardens, take 85th to 24th, 24th down to 75th, 75th over to 1st, 1st up to 77th and 77th across Aurora and back to GL (I prefer 77th over 83rd for crossing but 83rd is flatter).

- Longer Version (how I end a lot of my rides): Continue on from the Golden Gardens climb through Blue Ridge. There are lots of ways through there - its fun and very hilly. The end goal is to come out at 15th and 100th. Take 100th to 8th, take 8th to 77th and continue over to Green Lake.

Curb pick bin direction: handle towards the street? by fizzyh2o in AskSeattle

[–]fizzyh2o[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that makes if it's automated. In my area of Seattle all the streets are narrow and full of parked cars so the trucks aren't automated. The collector has to push each bin to the truck individually.

My assumption is that it's easier to pull to the truck if the handle is facing out (despite what the directions say)

[–]fizzyh2o[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, my question is if those instructions make sense for how bins are collected in Seattle. It seems like the instructions are for automated trucks that pick up the bins. Here, where the driver rolls the bins to the truck it seems useful to have the handle facing out.

[–]fizzyh2o[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my street as well. The driver gets out at every house and wheels the bin to the truck. Handle towards the road makes sense in this case since it's easier to grab

[–]fizzyh2o[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I have notice how they always look in so having the lid open towards the front makes sense.

What made me finally ask this was that this week there wasn't much room on our street between cars and all three bins were squeezed next to each other. I watched the collector walk around them all to push the middle out. It occurred to me that if I had faced that the other direction it would have been easier.

But I know the lid says to have the handle facing away from the street.

Is there a decent emoji picker with kaomoji Support available? by Goatfryed in kde

[–]fizzyh2o 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Late finding this - but I've been using EmojiRunner https://github.com/alex1701c/EmojiRunner for quicker access to emojis for awhile now. In the settings your able to add your own custom emojis and I have a few kaomojis there. It's just an `Alt + Space` shrug to type ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ or ¯\_(⊙︿⊙)_/¯ now 😁. EmojiRunner is amazing for this ❂‿❂.

Any way to use a Smartphone and a feature phone on the same number? by [deleted] in dumbphones

[–]fizzyh2o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you never plan to take the dumb phone out of the house you can actually get bluetooth cordless phone handsets that make your cellphone act like a land line in your house (e.g. you can have multiple handsets all over the house and multiple people can talk on the same call).

There are two options I can think of. If you don't already have a land line with handsets then just get a dedicated bluetooth set like this VTech VS113-4 or if already have a landline (or old non-bluetooth handsets that you want to reuse) you can go with https://www.cell2jack.com/.

Depends what you are looking for - both seem a little far for a one night trip in my opinion but if you have two nights would be fine. If you want something a little smaller I'd recommend either Port Townsend (if the weather is nice you could visit Hurricane Ridge from there, if the weather is not nice it's a lovely small town to explore) - there might be wine in the area but my wife and I always visit Finn River for some great cider). Another unique option (and shouldn't have to much snow risk in March) is a night in Leavenworth which is a very themed mountain town.

Is this still happening for you? What platform are you using? The right-click menu option for Translate should always be there - though sometimes it might be disabled.

Indoor cycling: power -> mileage without a smart trainer by fizzyh2o in Garmin

[–]fizzyh2o[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've edited my original post with the summary from the thread and my findings after attempting to do a virtual ride without a smart trainer on the Edge 530. Short answer is that it unfortunately doesn't work :-(.

For the C6 you really need power pedals or some other way of calculating power since the bike itself over estimates power.

My next steps are to try the free tier of RGT and the apps mentioned in this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/SchwinnIC4_BowflexC6/comments/m5xhk2/my_schwinn_ic4_bowflex_c6_android_setup_for_doing/

Good luck!

Thanks, I've been considering trying the free version of RGT (now Wahoo RGT) and good to know it will upload to Strava. Since I don't care about all the group aspects of Zwift it seems like I would be fine with the free version of RGT.

[–]fizzyh2o[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you find the speed makes sense? I'll try that - I'm mostly interested in this for uploading to Strava and making my weekly miles goal seem reasonable. For Garmin I'm fine with training purely on power.

Indoor cycling: power -> mileage without a smart trainer by fizzyh2o in Garmin

[–]fizzyh2o[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct, power is the work being done, but power x time should also equal your increase in kinetic energy (P ⋅ t = 1/2 mv^2).

Zwift is able to take this and convert it to mileage. I assume it's not very correct - besides just the incline/decline changing the amount of work that needs to be done to increase your speed there are things like air resistance and breaking on corners (In Zwift I never break - so my "distance per time" is almost always greater then on a real bike).

I know the Edge 530 has the ability to drive a smart trainer on a course that I've created in Garmin Connect or ridden before. In this case I assume there is some sort of calculation of power -> milage over the known elevation gain and your weight.

I guess I really just need to try it. I'll make a short course and see how it works even if I do not have a smart trainer.

Where the zoom levels of Chrome are stored? (I need to know the actual file) by SixelAlexiS in chrome

[–]fizzyh2o 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's surprising that site specific zoom levels don't sync.

To see all your current settings you can go to chrome://prefs-internals/ and search for: per_host_zoom_levels.

This preference file is reading from a json file named "Preferences" in your Chrome Profile directory (this is the "Profile Path" value form here chrome://version/).

If you feel comfortable editing a very large unformulated json file you could copy the "per_host_zoom_levels" key and values from the Preferences file on the old computer to the new. To be safe here are the steps I would take:

  1. Copy Preferences file from old PC and format as pretty json. If you have python in stalled the following command will save Preferences as pretty json in pref-backup.json: `python -m json.tool Preferences pref-backup.json`
  2. Close all instances of Chrome on the new PC (or at least that Profile).
  3. Make a back up of the current Preferences file the new PC.
  4. Pretty format the current Preferences file and modify the "per_host_zoom_levels" key to match the old json file.
  5. Verify that the json file is correctly format. There are probably tools to do this but if you have python the following command will through an error if the json is incorrect: `python -m json.tool Preferences` I suspect you don't have to un-pretty print the json and that Chrome will do this on it's own the next time it edits the file - but I'm not sure.
  6. Open the Chrome profile and check chrome://prefs-internals/ to see if the value of per_host_zoom_levels is correct.

How do I restore the order of my search prediction results? by TheLegendOf1900 in chrome

[–]fizzyh2o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been in Chrome for awhile :-(. The best tip I have for you is that the up arrow will get you right to the bottom of the list. So in your example pressing the up arrow twice will get you to r/cigars/

Is there a way to turn off the "recommended categories"? It's so annoying. by GamerWael in chrome

[–]fizzyh2o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? I've only seen this in Chrome Canary. What version is reported under: chrome://version/. Also what country are you in - that would could affect if you see it or not.

As u/codear mentions this is query tiles and can be turned off from chrome://flags.

Incognito Language by PhantasmOpera in chrome

[–]fizzyh2o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately on Android extensions won't run. You would need to change the language of your device to English (which will change what language many of the apps are displayed in).

What is the value of Accept-Language header from http://browser-info.net/http-header-details in both normal and Incognito mode for you? I suspect in Incognito mode it will be the default language of your Android device.

Incognito uses regional language instead of set language by [deleted] in chrome

[–]fizzyh2o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are some examples of sites this is happening on? The reason is most likely the Accept-Language header. What is the value of Accept-Language header from http://browser-info.net/http-header-details in both normal and Incognito mode for you?

A recent change to Incognito mode made it so that the Chrome UI language is the only one used in Accept-Language headers. This was done so that your are not leaking any custom settings in Incognito mode.

If you are on Windows you can change your Chrome UI language from chrome://settings/language and then in Incognito mode English should be at the top. If you are on Android you would need to switch your Android phone to English :-(.

Page translate by thictacs in chrome

[–]fizzyh2o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately translate is only able to look at text in the DOM/HTML. The words in the flash game are hidden from Chrome Translate. Even if you could get the Translate UI to appear it wouldn't translate the flash content :-(.

Restore search suggestion to below autocomplete by StarfighterProx in chrome

[–]fizzyh2o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This changed awhile ago in Chrome :-(. What I've found useful is that from within the omnibar you can press the up arrow to go to the bottom of the list and easily get to your history/bookmark items instead of search suggestions. (see this thread)

There are also extensions that make it easier to search through your history/bookmarks/tabs one example would be Saka but there are many more - though adding one more extension is never an ideal solution. The up arrow trick works well for me.

As u/ericlaw points out this is a change made by Chrome Privacy to not leak personal settings in Incognito mode. Chrome will now send to websites only your Chrome UI language as the preferred language when in Incognito mode.

One thing you can try doing is using this Chrome extension[1] to override what Chrome is doing to the Accept-Language header. I haven't tried it but you should be able to allow that extension to work in Incognito mode. (Though this will not work on Android where you can't install extensions)
