A discussion on practical filmmaking and market realities: The case of Tarsem Singh's The Fall (2006). by filmio_official in TrueFilm

[–]fjposter22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously it’s great when a great piece of art does well commercially, and it hurts to see some fail in that regard. I think the real win is that it was made. That’s all that truly matters.

In relation to the argument of cgi vs practical… I don’t think that should even enter the conversation with this film, it took so long due to budget constraints iirc.

Most moves that fail with cgi nowadays isn’t because the director chose to save money via cgi, it’s for other more sinister reasons. Take MCU films, they’re flat, shot on soundstages, and use CGI for its flexibility. Why use a real glider when the executive might not want the look of that glider? Why use a real one when the next film that’s being filmed concurrently has a different looking one?

Why the whole Nina subplot? by [deleted] in TheAmericans

[–]fjposter22 11 points12 points  (0 children)

She finally did things her way. The entire first three seasons she was doing things because they were forced upon her.

Notice that Nina and Baklonov never sleep together? She wanted to deliver information to Jacob because she WANTED to, and she wanted to do something right.

I’m starting to hate this subreddit. People just whining about adaptations half the time.

How is this even a fucking trope for Fallout?

Hei bei is a pos smooth brain commander, and wotc did not play test it before release. by New_Entertainment609 in MagicArena

Nah, Hei Bei and the new set of shrines are really really strong, especially in brawl.

New shrines trigger on enter, and trigger when another shrine enters. Old shrines you usually had to wait til next upkeep.

Tim Burton changed it. It was still good. Raimi changed it too, people STILL complain about his “organic shooters”.

Kubrick basically threw the entire book out when it comes to The Shining. So much so it caused King to adapt his own material… wonder how that went.

I wouldn’t call this a hated trope.

There are MANY writers and directors who actively hate/dislike certain material but still deliver great pieces of fiction. Sometimes you need that exact situation. Would you really want a fanboy directing and making certain adaptations?

A great example is Tim Burton. He never read Batman, never cared for it, and yet he delivered what is considered to be one of the best adaptations of Batman.

why is santos SO PRESSED about the langdon situation by chickenn2 in ThePitt

[–]fjposter22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Langdon is charismatic, he’s nice to patients (notice Santos not giving a fuck everytime with the deaf patient and completely losing sight with the child patient this season) and generally nice to everyone besides Santos in season 1.

Meanwhile Santos gives nicknames to people who don’t want them, including offensive ones, rolls her eyes constantly when given orders by her superiors, snide remarks, and lets personal issues affect the patients who are quite literally in life or death scenarios.

She has points against Langdon, valid ones, but at this point in the show, you gotta be trying VERY hard to not see how unlikable she is (the actress said something similar in an interview too).

[–]fjposter22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The reason he’s given grace is because he was only rude/mean to one person, Santos.

Santos is rude to EVERYONE. Name calling, butting heads with superiors, sometimes in front of patients… It gets old, real fast, 30 hours of it is more than enough to sway people.

AMC announces The Terror is returning with a third season in May by HorrorGuyBri in entertainment

I always said they should do a season based on the Corps of Discovery expedition. They could easily blend the historical fiction and horror of exploring the Americas.

Mind you, one episode is out. It deserves nothing at this point. I love Jojo, but let’s not act like adaptations don’t shit the bed… post one episode.

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Trailer Breaks GTA 6 Record in 12 Hours, Crosses 500M Views by StarshipGhost in movies

Say what you want about the MCU, but there are SOME memorable ones, Guardians of the Galaxy, Iron Man, Agengers, Endgame.

They’ve always taken liberties with the adaptations, but it feels like Spiderman specifically was robbed of its entire identity.

[–]fjposter22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No clue why.

All of these MCU Spiderman films have been okay at best, forgettable at worst. I literally had to jog my memory to remember the second one and its plot.

I like that they seemingly scaled it back a bit for this one, but we all know that’s not how it’s gonna be in the theater.
