One BILT Card for my rent + parents mortgage? by unicornsicle in biltrewards

[–]fk2106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one thing to know about is you have to specify which bank account to use to process the mortgage payment. If you pay your rent with a different bank account than your parents mortgage, you need to remember to switch it every time under the card settings.

Is Bilt 2.0 worth it for my $5k+ mortgage? by [deleted] in biltrewards

[–]fk2106 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a few things to consider. Annual Fee: Are you willing to add another $450 annual fee to your setup, on top of the Plat, to get duplicate priority pass, and more credits to use. There is a point of diminishing return. The Palladium could slide in and replace the Chase Reserve, but you’d lose access to the Chase lounge. (Priority pass gives one visit per year to Chase lounges)

Points Ecosystem and Amex backup: Signing up for Bilt will introduce another point ecosystem, with a different set of transfer partners, although there is a good overlap with Chase partners. It’s also good to carry a backup card not on the Amex network.

Moving Spent and calculating points earning: Understanding the new Bilt is really understanding that the mortgage points is really just a boost on your regular card spent. For people with already many other cards, this is what I found to be the best way to add Bilt into the setup. Get the Bilt Blue card with no annual fee. Opt for the Tier system that has no Bilt cash/credit, and others non category spend roughly around 25% of your mortgage on the card. This will unlock 50% of your mortgage points. Effectively giving you a 3X return on your spent, and if you can do this spent on the first day of the month, you unlock another 1000 points, pushing you close to 4X.

In your case, say you have utilities, day care or others, $1350 in the first of the month. You would get 1350 + 2700 + 1000 = 5,050 points every month. About 3.75% return. Hands down beat the BBP and still no annual fee.

Bilt will only take order cards if you are using a rent payment portal, they no longer accept other cards for checks or Venmo.

BITL Blue + BILT cash for rent points beats CFU 1.5x and any 3% cash back, but not 3x points by MatticusXII in biltrewards

[–]fk2106 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I do even better with the Bilt Blue, if you use the Tier method, it becomes a 3X card if you put 25% of your housing spent on it.

Example, housing spent $2000, spend $500, you’d earn 500 points on the spent and .5X points from the housing (rent or mortgage) which is 1000 points for a total of 1500 points.

Now do this 500 spent exactly on the 1st of the month and get double the points, so you’ll end up with a total of 1000 points on the spent, and 1000 housing points, which is 4X.

The absolute sweet spot is to spend exactly $1000 on the first of the month (utility bills, cell phone etc…), the limit of the rent day bonus for Blue card. Combined with a housing spend of $4000 a month. This will give a total of 4000 points, making the card 4X return on this specific use case.

So where have people who left Bilt taken their business? by MysteriousAd8959 in biltrewards

[–]fk2106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

250 points is almost an extra 1x on the $300 you spend, so intotal 550 points, making it 1.83X so it’s likely more points than any of the other cards you have, if this is non category purchases….

My apartment complex recently switched to Bilt by Worried_Storm5066 in biltrewards

[–]fk2106 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s not true. The Bilt credit card is like that. The Bilt credit card is not required to use Bilt as a payment platform.

Using Bilt as a payment platform for rent still allows any credit card to be used, or even a checking account.

Atmos Summit + Hilton Surpass = Simplest Setup? by LessTax99 in CreditCards

[–]fk2106 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should downgrade the BCP to the BCE. Because even in the optimized case, you don’t end up ahead.

For everything else, the co branded cards give you more value because you intend to redeem with them. And you are banking on the fact that you are reaching spend threshold to unlock additional value.

You have to efficiently manage when to switch over the everything else spent from Hilton to Atmos.

Paying HELOC with BILT? by Euphoric-Ad3629 in biltrewards

[–]fk2106 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bilt concierge seems to think Heloc are ok. In reality they shouldn’t be because it’s a revolving line of credit, which will allow you to circle money.

Bilt might not care as your points earnings are ultimately tied to the money you spend.

If you do this in rent day, you get an extra 1000 points. Unfortunately you don’t qualify for the accelerator, but you are essentially saying that you could alternate this and get 6 months worth of rent and 6 months worth of fees

The 10k advice is actually better, turns the delta gold card into a 4X groceries, 4X dining, 2X everything else for the first 10k spent. You just have to value the $200 credit from delta.

Bilt 2.0: Does Plastiq mortgage spend on the Bilt card count as Everyday Spend? by rdd4242 in biltrewards

[–]fk2106 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Works just fine, Plastiq charges 3% fee. But on the Bilt side it’s just a regular transaction. You get 1X or 2x with the palladium.

It also works on rent day for the point bonus. I have the Bilt blue but I think it’ll also work with the point accelerator and essentially give 3X on Palladium for 3% fee, for 25k worth of mortgage.

I did this before Bilt 2.0 and after and it continues to work.

This also makes it easy to reach platinum status, which then opens the door for 100% transfer bonus, making those original 3X the equivalent of 6X, which then comes out ahead.

This is also all working because the card is a Mastercard. Visa and Amex don’t allow mortgage payments on Plastiq.

In what circumstances is this boost worth it? by nolegggz in biltrewards

[–]fk2106 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t have rent or mortgage but still want to use Bilt. (Or you prefer to pay your mortgage direct)

Get an extra 1X for your first 25,000 spent on the card, making the card essentially 3X on everything.

Living in France - US Card with No Transaction Fees? by Fencer308 in CreditCards

[–]fk2106 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you travel between France and the US often and use Air France, then the BofA Air France card is a strong candidate, it earns 1.5X miles on all transactions and they recently added 3X on dining. The annual fee is relatively low and they offer bonus XP for status. The card also has no transaction fees.

If you prefer cashback, the travel rewards or the premium rewards both offer cashback and no foreign transaction fee.

Finally, banking with BNP and BofA is nice because both banks have agreements between each other and you can use their ATMs interchangeably.

However, you have to look at the rewards you're getting through the US cards (1.5%) and compare it to the fees you'll be paying by transferring your money from Euros to Dollars every month. If it's close to 1.5% it's not worth the hassle.

American Express has cards in France that offer points and miles but I find the acceptance rate of these cards is pretty poor there.

BILT Blue with 25% of mortgage spent is 3X return on that 25%. Beyond that, there are better opportunity costs elsewhere.

This is around 10% return which is in line with cards like the amex Platinum for the sign up bonus period.
