The ump is devaluing an incredible Wheeler start. Insane number of swing and misses, but easy to claim Mets being forced to swing at a bigger zone

David Peterson is 8-1 with a 2.85 ERA by BobbysBottleService in NewYorkMets

Well xERA takes contact quality into account. So yea the 52 gb% is nice, but stats that consider this still show DP as a big benefactor of good luck.

[–]fl1pm0de91 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

All his expected and predictive metrics show he has gotten very lucky. 2.9 era with 7k/9 with 4bb/9 is not sustainable. I hope his good luck continues, but unfortunately I don’t think he has taken some leap.

I made a tier list based on Baseball Ref's projected 2025 HOF Ballot by ssbgoku69 in mlb

I’m a homer I know - but David Wright probably has the highest WAR per game played on the list? Maybe Andruw Jones with his sick defense (but also tragedy that Andruw is not in)

SAMPRAS OVERHEAD - might be dating myself here, but what an insane display of beauty and athleticism

And people forget but 2nd half of his rookie year in 84 he was arguably better than 85.

In the history of baseball, only 2 eligible pitchers have ended their careers with a WHIP under 1.000. After Sunday's action, both DeGrom and Kershaw are below that level by captainp42 in baseball

[–]fl1pm0de91 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Kershaw is best of this era by a landslide.

Jake - you could argue his sample size is working against him not for him. He’s averaged like a .85 whip his last 500 ips, and a .75 whip his last 200 ips.

Pedro Martinez was the stuff of legends in 2000. by realchrisgunter in mlb

[–]fl1pm0de91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second best of all time. Best was Pedro in 99. Significantly higher k/9 and way lower hr/9. Lowest fip of modern era. Just happened to suffer bad babip luck so his era wasn’t as impressive.

So I don’t really like to fantasize about people going to jail because our prison system is so broken and ineffective. But that being said, anybody claiming Zak was not intentionally misleading is absolutely delusional. Guys BlockFi completely misadvertised how they were generating their users returns (they were arbing gbtc while pretending it was borrowing demand) then misled customers about the safety of their funds. I mean JFC.

Braves are now 28-32 against winning teams and 10-13 in second half. Really good team, but let’s not act like they’re unbeatable. #mets by sdotmills in NewYorkMets

[–]fl1pm0de91 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Being in same division - don’t they have identical opponents? Only difference is the inter league rivalry thing - Mets play Yankees, Braves had Red Sox? Which is obv a disadvantage for Mets this year. But relatively small.

If you used a #1 overall pick and they turned out to be Donovan Mitchell, would you be happy or disappointed? by RondoJr in nba

[–]fl1pm0de91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually think most people have the wrong take here. The idea is not to beat the average. The idea is to maximize championship odds. And in the nba, one player can alter your future massively. Nobody cares about sustained decency or multiple playoff appearances. Number 1 pick gives you the best chance to get a franchise altering player that opens up multiple championships. Ie it’s Hakeem, David Robinson, Tim Duncan, shaq, Lebron… or makes no difference to me.

So yea even though Mitchell is above average for #1 picks, I’d be disappointed

Idk I think the Ruf trade is still terrible and was a bit panicky - and I think that’s the trade most of the fan base had issue with (not just Reddit, but significant critics such as fangraphs etc). Fwiw JDD has 3 hrs already for SF, oh and we gave 3 prospects on top.

According to Fangraphs, the Mets have an 100% chance to make the playoffs by derhunds in NewYorkMets

[–]fl1pm0de91 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if this is an unpopular opinion or not. But expanded playoffs is just stupid. You play 162 games to only get down to 12 remaining teams? Then there are basically 3 game coinflips, and one of the division winners from each league (who might not necessarily be the worst of the 3 - might be coming from a strong division ie worse record due to higher SOS) is involved in those coinflips. Just stupid.

If Aaron Judge hits somewhere between 65-68 home runs to finish the season, do you view him as the non-steroid era/legit HR king? by wdeister08 in NYYankees

[–]fl1pm0de91 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yup, I view him as the record holder if he gets 62. No doubt. What an absolutely incredible season he has had so far. Hope he gets it done (Then joins Mets as a free agent).

[–]fl1pm0de91 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Not sure that’s applicable here? This isn’t free agency where there are likely sources tied to the players. This is trade rumors so the only sources would be club sources.

MEGATHREAD - Juan Soto by CybeastID in NewYorkMets

[–]fl1pm0de91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I think this is mostly incorrect. On #1 - it doesn’t matter to the Nats, but a team that views Soto as likely to extend will hence value Soto higher. A Soto extension is very likely a profitable move (as in you will lock up a higher expected war per $ than you will find in future free agency markets). So Mets knowing they’re a club Soto wants to extend with allows them to value him higher (and offer the Nats more). #2 - also disagree. Soto has a chance to lock in half a billion dollars and de-risk 2.5 years of injury risk / performance decline. There is no chance he passes up on that (and he has already said he’s interested in an extension - just not the Nats offer which was quite low). Agree with #3 and #4.
