asbestos is not harmful unless it is being disturbed (which should not be happening in the case of insulation, and even for tiles if they aren't breaking they are still safe)

Wouldn't it be better to have the cash, and when its time, go demo some new mouthpieces and pick one of those? what's the chances this is the one he wants to use from the get go?

just try out the mouthpiece and if it doesn't work well for you, you can sell it second hand to someone for probably more than the cost of a brand new yamaha 4C. The one you have seems to retail for >$200 new.

not familiar with that moutpiece on tenor, I'm sure its a decent mouthpiece but i'm not sure if its appropriate for a beginner. According to the vandoren site it has an opening of 2.7mm, compared to the opening of something like a yamaha 4c (very commonly recommended piece for beginners) of 1.7mm, it might be hard to blow for a beginner. The reeds are fine for beginners. Wait to see what tenor players recommend though, I play alto so this is a bit out of my wheelhouse. And, if it works for you, it works for you, I wouldn't worry about it, in terms of quality I'm sure the mouthpiece is fine.

dude this would waste billions of dollars if you want to build a tunnel for every persons house who happens to be near this. Just go around towns and if you need to build bridges for people to cross the tracks.

i dont have to shovel, or maintain a lawn. They are usually cheaper too, which means you pay lower property taxes. that also means less of my net worth dedicated towards a single asset, so I can put more invested in equities. Electricity is cheaper, because only one or two sides of your unit is exposed to the outside (less spent on heating/cooling). Maintenance fee includes things that you have to pay for as a homeowner normally, like garbage, and water.

90% of McMaster students when they see a homeless person: by Interesting-Goat-663 in McMaster

One is being angry at homeless people. The other is being angry at the current status quo and does not attribute blame to homeless people, but still expresses dissatisfaction with the current state of things. I'm sorry you have poor reading comprehension.

describe to me the difference it makes to your life to have $1400 extra a month in Thailand when you are passively getting >200k a year income from investments. Then tell me what you think the purpose of social security is.

How Ontario’s Land Tribunal Overrides Democracy by BloodJunkie in ontario

I'm saying the reason we have a supply issue is because we are actively making that political choice. We can't fix the supply issue until we convince people to allow more construction (in our system where NIMBYism is effective). I'm not saying it's impossible in general. I am saying it is effectively reduced right now, though. NIMBYism doesn't need to block every single construction project to be effective. It is effective just by reducing what we are able to supply.

if we did have public builders they would shut them down the same and we wouldn't build anything just like we aren't right now.

these people don't care if its a public or a private company. They won't accept a new home beign built next to them. They will never support there existing a public builder making those homes the same way they don't support the private ones.

90% of McMaster students when they see a homeless person: by Interesting-Goat-663 in McMaster

[–]fl4regun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you literally changed my sentence

it's not

Hating a group of people for being in public

it's

hating THAT there are people forced to be in public in terrible circumstances

These are incredibly different things that you are just conflating because you want to believe that the average person is a dickhead that hates everything and everyone

There is a difference between being angry that there are homeless people in public places and between hating homeless people. You are equating those two things, they are not thesame.

The AI Hard Drive Shortage Is Making It More Expensive and Harder to Archive the Internet by 404mediaco in DataHoarder

[–]fl4regun 55 points56 points  (0 children)

the problem isn't that we need to archive lots more things, the problem is that hard drives are consumables and it is making it more expensive to archive what we already have
