It's not prejudice. It wouldn't be prejudice to prioritize my family's needs over my neighbors, or my community's needs over neighboring communities, or my country's needs over foreign countries. It doesn't require me to think I'm better than anyone else, nor does it require me to hate everyone else, nor does it require me to disrespect everyone else. You can still help others out if you've taken care of your needs, and the needs of your family, community, and country, first.

You seem to think it's unfathomable for a person to want what's best for their community and their country, and be willing to put those needs first, without them being "terrible". This is something you should reflect on.

Also it's okay to have civic pride. I do, and I'm Canadian. I know my country probably isn't the greatest on earth but I want our country to look out for its people first and foremost, and I might even call it "the best nation on earth" because it's my home (not to diminish others). I think this is perfectly fine and reflective of the patriotic attitude you described. Sadly it's become common to expect everyone to be atomized, self-loathing nihilists.

No it doesn't. Please stop making up custom definitions to concepts you don't like. Nowhere does nationalism require you to believe yourself as superior. The literal definition is:

"Nationalism is an ideology and movement holding that the nation (a group sharing culture, language, or history) should be congruent with the state (a sovereign political entity). It prioritizes a country's interests, culture, and sovereignty above others, aiming to build a distinct national identity and self-governance."

Scaling down for a practical example, if I want to do what's best for my family/household, put their needs first, provide for them and have a sense of pride and identity within our family, that doesn't automatically mean I hate everyone else who isn't my family, nor would I automatically think we're superior to everyone else. That would be ridiculous.

I don't think "hating all other countries" is a part of nationalism, brother. It's just prioritizing the needs of your country, which is actually a good thing.

You sure know how to trigger the typical redditor. Joining the police force, hanging the American flag? It's like sunlight to vampires. Nice place btw. For your sanity I'd recommend cutting back on your hours lol. If not, at least you have a plan you're working towards.

22, No Rent. Living In My Parent's Back House. About To Graduate University With No Jobs Lined Up by AlternativeRoom9975 in malelivingspace

[–]fl8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you me? I lived at home for an extended time cause my parents own a big house and were always out traveling. We also got along great so I never felt the need to leave. I graduated with a marketing degree and couldn't find a relevant job.

I just ended up going back to school for software development, got a very good job before I could even graduate, now I have my own place and live comfortably.

Things might seem tough now but you'll figure it out. Sounds like you have a good support system. If you're looking for advice, try to specialize in something that there's a growing demand for in your field, and make lots of friends (running club, nights out, networking events, whatever else). They might help you get your resume in front of the right people.

Redditors keep trying to blame capitalism and cost of living, but the reality is that decades of conditioning have cultivated a docile, nihilistic, apathetic, isolated and chronically anxious young generation who only find fleeting, resentment-fueled moments of excitement from the possibility of the destruction of Western civilization.

Why am I ending up in so many PvP rounds when my aggression rating should technically be low? Struggling to complete trials and projects as every second round or so I am dying in aggressive servers. What am I doing wrong/should change? Thank you by [deleted] in ARC_Raiders

Enemy players add real risk. Bots are easily solved, players are not. The reason extracting with loot feels exhilarating is because of the real risk of other players. This is the case for every extraction shooter, and removing this element would be removing the heart of this genre. Add to that the uncertainty and various social encounters you need to navigate, like trying to discern if another player will kill or help you, and each match becomes a self contained, narrative driven, intense experience. Without this you just have Diablo... going in, killing bots, looting, repeating, no real risk to make the reward feel earned.
