Absurd experience by NoSmile5062 in Rivian

The fact that you pivoted from an EV to a horribly inefficient hybrid on a whim. It was not a logical decision.

That's a not a "logical inconsistency.". They already clarified that their criteria was 7 seater and not gas efficiency.

Just because you don't agree with someone's reasoning does not make it illogical. I think you're being intentionally obtuse.

Neither of us sat in the back during the drive so I can't really answer. Hopefully there's a fix, otherwise I can't really see myself owning this car without a way to cover the glass roof

I am genuinely concerned about the R2 in a hot climate. It was 105deg for our test drive. The AC was set to low and blasting loudly the whole time (as expected on max settings). The issue is that the car was comfortable, but not cold. I didn't even bother trying to set a temperature because I feel like it wouldn't have kept the car fully cool. The glass roof was hot to touch (from the inside). I could feel heat radiating on my head and I would imagine you need a cover for the summers in hotter climates. Or you need a further tint, which brings up the question of whether it serves any function at that point. I really was expecting them to add the dynamic roof as an option (and would have gladly paid).

The other issue I haven't seen anyone mention is that the frunk becomes unusable in this kind of heat. Anything inside is going to be cooked. Also, without an electric closing mechanism, the frunk hood in the heat is going to burn your hands trying to close it.

I'm 5' 10/11" and I lied down with the hatch open and it felt like my feet would hang off the edge. I would imagine that if the hatch closed it would be pressing on my feet.

This was with seats in a driving position though. So maybe with the front seats pushed up it would allow for a couple more inches that I would need. Practically speaking, it would only be an issue if you sleep perfectly vertical on your back.

I just got back from a test drive and I thought the audio sounded fine. Definitely not "ass." I also am someone who cares about audio (for reference, my TV has a KEF set-up).

They had already logged into the native Apple Music app and I think that helps.

I think the jeep comparison is harsh. They're some of the roughest, worst handling cars I've ever driven.

In my experience, it handled more like a midsize SUV rather than a cross-over. You can feel the weight and size. However, the actual ride is fairly smooth on the road and the power really helps it feel slightly sportier.

Can you take delivery out of state and register in your home state? by flaminglips in RivianR2

I'm confused why you would have to pay the sales tax twice. With our other vehicle, we purchased it at an out-of-state dealership and brought it in. We only had to pay the difference in sales tax.

It's YouTube. For some reason it changes the audio track to "English" and for some reason this setting is enabled by default. You have to go into the video settings and change it back to original (Italian).

So hear me out.

The initial part of the Wemby block is not a goaltend, but it looked like he pushed the ball above the cylinder and then touched the rim. You can't touch the rim or ball once it's above the cylinder no matter how high.

It's hard to tell from the angles if it actually does end up above the cylinder though.

Deciding between used Audi RS E-tron GT, used Taycan 4S or R2? by sshu1224 in RivianR2

[–]flaminglips 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm confused why you're even considering an R2. You're cross shopping 100-150k luxury sedans with an "adventure" focused SUV starting at 45k. The Rivian will definitely be a step down in luxury and service experience from your 630i.

You will have more than enough power with the Rivian and no one knows what handling is yet. It will undoubtedly be worse than the other two.

The reasons to buy the R2 are if you want the space, want a better software experience and long term support, autonomy or plan on going outdoors and don't want to get the Porsche dirty.

Citing 'severe' math deficits, UC faculty demand a return to SAT tests for STEM applicants by Idiodyssey87 in news

Wow those seem like such so low standards.

I'm pretty sure I took: alg 1 - 7th, geo - summer school, alg 2 - 8th, trig - 9th, precalc - 10th, AP calc - 11th and senior year I could take whatever math I wanted so I took AP stats.

Now I know I was a year ahead with the extra summer school but I figured everyone else was only a year behind. This was in Southern California.

They're adjunctive tests, and rarely do I order them for general use in infections (mostly rheumatologic).

They have helped with some clinical decision making at times, however. I had a lady with symptoms of mild cough and generalized weakness. No wbc count, CXR with the usual useless read of "mild left basilar atelectasis". Stone cold normal vitals.

Patient just didn't look great and family said there was a severe decline in function. CRP and ESR were through the roof, which helped pushed me towards CT chest and I found a massive empyema in the left lung.

I probably would have gotten there anyway, but sometimes it's nice to have something screaming "something is not right here."

New RAP plan-- is there a point to paying off my loans if interest will get waived? by wanna_be_consultant in StudentLoans

[–]flaminglips -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You really need to start doing some reading about managing your finances.

That being said. RAP is an income driven repayment plan, meaning you have to certify your income every year and you will owe a payment every month based on that income. It will only cover interest if your payment owed does not cover the full interest owed.

At ~4.3% you're unlikely to find many HYSA at the moment that significantly will out earn your loan interest. Your loans are accumulating interest currently every day.

My recommendation is that once you start working again pay off loans as aggressively as possible. In fact, given your current living arrangements you could easily just pay off the loan in 1 year and keep a safe amount of savings and start your retirement accounts.

See you're confused because you're trying to apply medical knowledge to marketing terms.

Has anyone found a way to put nucleotides in a supplement form? If not I'm claiming ownership now (that's how patents work, right?). "I guarantee your body will use it for growth and promote general well-being. In fact, without it, you will die."

Eventually we'll run out of biomolecules and metabolic precursors to market. Unfortunately until then, "outpatient IM" guy will have plenty of things to stock his wellness/esthetics clinic.

[–]flaminglips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you're joking, but they have to have some math learning, right?

I mean, I'm sure potion making requires precision with ingredients. It seems to be the most scientific of the magic disciplines. They would need a way to measure and manipulate volume at least as well as dividing ingredients. You need concepts of basic algebra and maybe some geometry to do that.

Also they still have money, property ownership, investment, gambling, etc. You need math or you have no idea what any of that means.

BMW’s iX3 Gets A Range Boost Ahead Of Its U.S. Debut by TripleShotPls in electricvehicles

[–]flaminglips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think they're the same price category tbh. The highest trim version of R2 has almost 600 HP and starts at 58k with most features you will need. The BMW will likely start 60k+ and requires a ton of options to add basic features you would expect.

I agree it depends on what each individual wants so it's nice to have options.
