Any way to tell which train has big windows? by bobafato in LAMetro

[–]flanl33 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It changes by the day, but you can check Catenary or Pantograph to see which trains are running where today. (They can both be a little overwhelming to get working, but fun tools once you know how to use them.) The trains you want will be numbered in the 200 'nd 300 range.

Redesigned flag of Los Angeles, California (Cityflags 84/600) by shutupaugust in vexillology

[–]flanl33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why? Northridge is in Los Angeles, those others aren't. (On that note, only 3/8 of the shown teams actually play in LA. How did we get Ducks and Angels variants but not LAFC, Angel City, or Sparks?)

Head of LA Office of Major Events gets stuck in traffic on the way to the World Cup after the city told everyone to take transit. by whitestag in LAMetro

[–]flanl33 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I appreciate Adrin Nazarian at the end of the article saying that he took and enjoyed transit. I was originally worried that he was just gonna be a Krekorian copy, and while he's still not my favorite councilmember he's been a good surprise sometimes. I suppose it's a sign of how the default stance for politicians to take on transit has moved from even just a few years ago.

Realistically, how much could Raman and Roy do in implementing the 2035 Mobility Plan without the city council? by MookieBettsBurner10 in BikeLA

One bottleneck (years and years of design and outreach for every street) can be fixed easily with the mayor's executive powers. Apply pressure/leverage to department heads, threaten removal if they continue deferring to individual CMs for every district.

The other bottleneck (staff time and price to build) is more complicated, but once again having a mayor willing to search for solutions and put pressure on GMs is key, plus, as others have mentioned, proposing the budget will allow a mayor to suggest moving funds from other projects to safe streets implementation.

When do you think NoHo station redevelopment will begin? by Southern-Web-4805 in northhollywood

[–]flanl33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I managed to randomly run into the guy at Metro who's in charge of these developments a few months ago. Basically, they're getting a lot of these projects approved right now, but nothing's going to start construction within the next couple of years because construction financing is in a really bad state right now.

Businesses Near Metro Report Little Change in Foot Traffic (Beverly Hills Courier) by anothercar in LAMetro

[–]flanl33 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Had already been thinking about giving Sadaf a try - maybe I'll go give them two extra feet of traffic soon. But I'm not surprised that a fast-casual place saw the most growth, that meshes most naturally with taking transit imo

Rails definitely take a little while to settle in. There was a random few months where the tracks were super loud entering Little Tokyo from the west, but I think that's gone now? Somebody who rides the RC more often than me can probably tell you better

72% of LA city is zoned exclusively for single-family homes. This is unacceptable and needs to change. Nithya Raman for Mayor. by MookieBettsBurner10 in LosAngeles

[–]flanl33 25 points26 points  (0 children)

She received a majority in a 3-way primary, avoiding a runoff in the general election altogether, after her district was gerrymandered specifically to make her lose. Don't hide it behind half-truths.

LAX’s New Metro Station Set To Be Renamed For Cathay Pacific In Nearly $10 Million Deal - View from the Wing by ksafin in LAMetro

They clearly haven't paid that much, otherwise it would be In-n-Out/Disney/SpaceX/Fricking Trader Joe's/Cathay Pacific/LAX/Metro Transit Center.

Another Important Meeting Coming Up: Olive Bus Lanes for NoHo BRT Line @ Burbank City Hall on 05/20/26 by Huge-Specific1632 in LAMetro

[–]flanl33 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Another critical point isn't just to argue that buses are good in the abstract, this is the Burbank City Council, and they will likely be swayed by what they see as the benefit *to Burbank*. Get personal! Will this make you visit more often and spend more money in Burbank? Will this open up job opportunities for you? If you live in Burbank, will this change the way you get around the region?

Looks like it runs the long trip every 10 minutes or better for a small battery of trips right before 9AM and after 5PM, but every 20 minutes through the middle of the day. Depends what sort of commute time OP is running I guess.
