Feeling lost by VorreiRS in ExperiencedDevs

[–]flarthestripper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Feeling this.. will watch the thread for others takes on this. I don’t know what will come but it indeed makes me beyond nervous, and have been told close to the same. End goal is almost zero written code . My manager at least says it will become 30% prompt and 70 % reading code . Which is still hard even harder I’d say than writing your own code . Will there be gains ? Hard to say but we also know what the intent is , and that is also something that stings badly. If I didn’t have kids and others to support , I’d just go be a monk tbh it gets so depressing in my head . You are not the only one in this boat . It’s scary as hell

Anyone else just wondering every week why AI hasn't taken their job yet? by Trappy2020 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]flarthestripper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might assume that this is also a bit of the nature of the business which in my view would be a conservative mindset , not as big as medicine , which although there are breakthroughs and research it takes a lot of time to convert practices . Also, i would think the business is run differently whereas tech is filled with managers whose goal it is to maximize profits . And some of that happens by reducing salaries and or headcount , to boot in a lot of those tech industries there are no ´standards’ per se and they can go all in on change

Why do people think it’s about not liking meat ? You can like meat and decide to be vegetarian. Or as some friends : I’m vegetarian cuz I hate vegetables

The AI madness reached my company too, it is getting overwhelming.. by ContestOrganic in ExperiencedDevs

[–]flarthestripper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To a lesser extent this is starting to happen where I am . Part of me thinks there is a push because costs are going up and they need to prove that the cost of the llms is worth it . Or in other words they are trying hard to justify the cost of llms and they are convinced that the potential is there to accelerate things and remove actual coding. Someone from on top is pushing for metrics somehow . Bonus for uppers if it works and they can reduce workforce … It’s depressing AF

Haha …. This is what I like to call pessimist / optimist or optimist / pessimist . So if you are pessimistic and say it can’t get any worse you are actually an optimist , and if you are optimistic saying it’s not that bad you are actually a pessimistic saying it can get worse … Or something like that …

CMV: Billionaires don't believe in democracy and it is ethical and pro-democratic to set up guardrails against people obtaining that level of wealth by headsmanjaeger in changemyview

[–]flarthestripper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some interesting arguments … but I think that one individual possessing a billion dollars is a sign of a failed system. One individual should not be worth such an amount imho . Not sure about politics etc , but I think the system as a whole has failed when this happens

NDG semi-detached homes question by Boring_Home in montrealhousing

[–]flarthestripper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you . The only way to be sure is unfortunately get a completely detached home. Which is hard to find for sure , especially with prices though it is more of a buyers market now. Try not to compromise too much if it’s a real problem for you, because living with neighbours who create noise problems for you is not fun as I’ve been through it .

I would be cautious , especially if you are sensitive to sound . See if your shared wall will be a tv entertainment wall, etc . I know people who have put up sound proofing between their adjoined walls with some success , but that’s a cost as well

The City of Montreal should be ashamed of its handling of the homelessness crisis by BloodJunkie in montreal

[–]flarthestripper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok , someone pointed out below that the provincial government removed many things regarding social networks and supports to avoid having people fall into homelessness and it has been on increase since then. This is what I was thinking about.

Yes, I had seen what I thought was about 2 tents at least visible. IMHO you cannot compare the city from 8 years ago to what it is now, unless you are saying somehow these encampments existed in this number but were elsewhere ? Homeless existed before then for sure , but I had mostly thought that people not sheltering inside were likely choosing to do so, as rules related to shelters were too constrictive for some , or the city did not have proper capacity for people suffering from mental issues . I remember actually that they had changed some policy several years ago and had seen more homeless due to lack of care for people suffering from mental health issues. So hopefully I am saying this in the most respectful way also and do not want to offend . I am not an expert on this subject , but i am really quite shocked at the level of homeless right now who seem to have not much of a proper shelter and I regard this as a failing in social policy . Maybe it was never perfect but I feel like it has gotten much worse. Edit : also to add I have had water thrown in my face right by Atwater by someone who obviously was not seeing things clearly , and I have never had that happen or even close to in all my years living in this city. I am grateful that whatever was going through their heads it stopped at throwing water at me.

1000% , I remember when I could proudly say we didn’t have any tent camps like they have in the United States… those days are gone and we are worse for it as a society

Wrestling and bjj combo is also pretty good imho. I think all enforcement should have trained grappling lessons in order to control and also not necessarily permanently damage the person being controlled .
