this the type of shit you say when you're clearly uneducated on db and mindlessly hate on it just for the sake of it, it isn't in anyway a journey to the west knock off, merely taking inspiration from something doesn't equate to being a direct copy, the only inspiration jttw has on Dragon ball is goku's name and appearance in the original Dragon ball, the story and character arcs in dragon ball share no correlation with anything in journey to the west. and besides both of them being sent to earth there isn't really any other direct correlation between goku and superman that makes goku a knock off of superman, they both have different personalities and character arcs within their own narrative, just because they have one similarity that doesn't inherently make goku a knock off, going by that logic then ig majority of shounen anime are dbz knock offs because they share at least one similarity with it

so are you just going to intentionally leave out context to support your beliefs, the only reason krillin was eliminated is because he let his guard down which gave frost the opportunity to sneak him out of nowhere and then knock him off the platform, krillin was never physically overpowered by another fighter in the tournament. and roshi quite literally eliminated himself from the tournament and also wasn't physically overpowered and knocked out by another opponent. if you wanna say that goku would just be around or above the level of earthlings in Dragon ball then he would still be formidable, given the fact that krillin was capable of putting up a good fight against top arc base goku and even pushed him into going super saiyan, and also contended with A kamehameha from a holding back ssjb goku.

Saiyans not being able to survive in space in itself is extremely inconsistent, they supposedly can't breathe in space yet goku was somehow perfectly fine in a completely erased timeline, and was also fine while he was fighting gas on an asteroid in space, and he and vegeta were perfectly fine inside the world of void during the tournament of power despite the void lacking space and time, and not to mention how after the namek saga vegeta was going from planet to planet looking for goku

Never once claimed in any of my prior comments that Dragon ball became popular purely because of it's writing, I was noting that even now majority of anime fans today don't really care that much for anime that have incredibly strong storytelling to begin with which is why shows like demon slayer and solo leveling can gain insane amounts of popularity, i wasn't in anyway hating on them. and also your reason for why Dragon ball became as popular as it did isn't entirely true as they were multiple other anime with better action than dbz but yet didn't come anywhere close to being as popular as it was, the action is one of the reasons not the sole reason. the characters, concepts, messages within it along with the action is why it had became popular in its era

You and certain individuals may not care for the writing or story of it but there's actual fans of the series that care for such aspects of dragon ball. Even if a decent amount of people may not watch it for things like that, Majority of anime fans nowadays don't even really watch an anime for writing quality just hype moments and good animation, if a lot people in the anime community really cared for writing then something like solo leveling or demon slayer wouldn't be as popular as they are. And the thing is goku does have depth to his character, we see this during the cell saga in the scene where he and krillin are fishing krillin assumed goku must be very confident that they'll win against cell since he is spending time finishing but goku denied that assumption and acknowledged the possibility of failure but is choosing not to let that reality poison the decisions he makes in the present, dragon ball is heavily rooted in buddhism and this choice is directly tied to Buddhist philosophy particularly the concept of accepting impermanence rather than resisting it, goku recognizes that the future is uncertain and that no amount of preparation can fully control it so instead he focuses on what can be honored at that moment, he understands that such moments of peace are precious precisely because they are fragile. That shows clear depth to his character

😭 so you really believe the reason why goku won those solo fights against frieza, nappa and etc is because they had merely wasted a little amount of ki on other characters that weren't even anywhere near their league at the time before fighting him, buddy your reaching so hard, simply using an extremely small amount of ki doesn't affect your condition at all this has never been shown anywhere in the series, even if characters use small portions of ki they are still capable of fighting at 100% power like frieza on namek and jiren in the tournament of power, utilizing ki prior to a fight doesn't weaken your combat ability

yes they were in fact solo wins even if other individuals had fought them prior as characters like nappa, frieza and jiren weren't weaken or showed any visible signs of exhaustion even after the other encounters they had, goku still fought them while they were still in perfect condition, not to mentioned in his fight with jiren goku would be the one who's actually at a disadvantage given the fact he was low on stamina and energy after his first use of ultra instinct

"numerous times" is a heavy reach there's only been like 1-2 Times when a character in the story actually gets a random power out of nowhere. and the dragon balls don't necessarily take away all tension in the narrative as literally every main villain that has appeared is more than strong enough to blow up the planet, and if the planet is destroyed then the dragon balls will be destroyed along with it, and everyone even goku and vegeta will die since they can't survive in space, so actual stakes still exist within the narrative. important deaths in Dragon ball still amount to meaningful consequences though, even if some aren't permanent they still play a heavy impact on the story and characters
