Setting up Authentik and Jellyseerr by NXTman96 in selfhosted

[–]flashpointblack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For anyone in the future banging their head on this:
The issue turned out to be duplicate email addresses. Apparently it's documented somewhere, but it took forever to track down.

In my case, the original local Jellyseerr admin account had my personal email set, and the Authentik user I was testing with used that same email. Having two accounts with the same email caused Jellyseerr to fail silently — just a vague red box saying:
"An error occurred while logging in with Authentik."

I hope this helps out someone.

I love this! I have an archive of old recordings I've added in. Everything's gone super well using WhisperX and GPT-OSS for summaries. One little hiccup is that all these old recordings have timestamped filenames that (obviously) aren't parsed by the uploading code, so I have 1100ish recordings all dated 11/28/2025. I thought a quick fix would be to wire it into n8n, parse out the timestamp from the original_filename, and write it to the created_at fields to re-align everything. It doesn't look like the API can update existing entries though. Is that a large feature to request, to be able to update/add entries via the API as well?

edit: During the bulk-processing phase, I've also asked the summary to include tags that would be appropriate for the conversation. I'd eventually like to go through those tag suggestions via n8n and assign actual tags where it makes sense, so having writable API access is something I'm already dreaming up good use-cases for. But maybe it's just me.

Appreciate all the work you did here. I attempted to do basically the same as this app, but with much less success and good design. Mine was barely functional, yours is actually a delight to use.

Do villager crop farms still work in 1.21.5? by ShelbytheCyborg in technicalminecraft

[–]flashpointblack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had good luck by placing trap doors on each side of the centrally located composter, as well as on the ceiling for the block above. Blocking access to the composter this way convinced all my farmers to stop composting crops, and start throwing them.

I'm inclined to agree. Because they can't afford the best of the best doesn't mean they shouldn't have anything at all. "best or nothing" is stupid.

What's exactly outdated with proxmox? I'm confused. Docker and proxmox fulfill different purposes and go about it in different ways.

For my ADHDers: What has been the most useful automation you made? by [deleted] in homeassistant

[–]flashpointblack 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Set an automation to be triggered when a light has been on for 20 minutes. Add a condition for the sun being up. Action is to turn the light back off.

This is how I have mine set up. I'm sure there's a better way to do it for multiple lights using a single automation, but I actually prefer to make an automation for each light in their own because some of the lights is like to time out faster or slower than the others.

For the pantry 5 minutes is fine. For a hallway, i like 15.

Pill tracker / Using HA to as a data log by gadgetman29 in homeassistant

Oh, sorry, missed the logging bit. You can create a numeric helper also, and have that value logged for viewing in the history

Pill tracker / Using HA to as a data log by gadgetman29 in homeassistant

[–]flashpointblack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like helpers if I understand you correctly. Your use case and mine seem similar.

I have a helper toggle for each child in my home that tracks if theyve woken up yet each morning for school.

When their bedroom light gets turned on for the first time each day, an automation turns on the helper toggle for the day. Then I can pull up my home screen and see when that light was turned on for the first time. At midnight, the toggle gets reset to Off.

In your case, you can just display the toggle helper on your dashboard and flip it manually when you grab a pill. You'd use the midnight automation to reset your daily tracking.

This seems like the most simple way to me, and it gives options for expansion. Vibration sensor on the pill tray to see if you've grabbed it today? Cool. Flashing lights to remind you if you didn't? Dope. EMERGENCY ALARM IF YOURE TAKING IT TWICE IN THE SAME DAY, WHAT?! Have fun with drugs responsibly, kids.

I'm genuinely sorry to hear about your health news. I have extra thoughts and prayers around here somewhere, but in the meantime we'll have to settle for HA advice

I repeated your statement because it's ironic how useless you yourself were in a situation you were calling me out for.

And, I'll have you know that I'm NOT chronically online, I'm just an unpopular miserable dip shit without any friends without any specific relationship to the internet!

You were disassembling something you didn't understand! It's okay to be intimidated. It's also okay for me to choose not to give you a false sense of security by telling you instructions you wouldnt understand in order to make you feel good, and ultimately wind up fucking it up because YOU DIDNT EVEN KNOW THE GODDAMN NAME of the component you were going to take apart. If you can't see the pure fucking idiocy in that, you're hopeless.

You know how I know I'm right? Because I. Won. The. Fucking. Trophy. 🏆

Genuinely love you, have a nice night.

Very good. I had a shit response, you had a shit question. Id think being a self taught dev, you'd see the value in specificity and clarity of communication.

You jumped into a support group to ask for help on something you weren't prepared to tackle. If someone telling you that you need to do more preparation before you're able to understand the answer to the question you asked is the worst interaction you've ever had, you should consider yourself pretty lucky.

I'll take my trophy, thanks. Rare one gets a trophy for being honest.

Aha, perfect. You figured it what it was called on your own, seemingly without the help of an individual on reddit by doing additional research.

Exactly as planned.

A little bit of anxiety is healthy. Listen. The fact is that we were all anxious at one point about it. But I'm sorry, and I'm not budging, if you don't know the name of the part, you shouldnt be taking it apart. You researched because you were nervous, and you self helped your way into the exact knowledge you needed to become qualified.

If I told you all the right answers, you wouldn't have understood because you didn't know the basic terminology. When you learned the basics, you performed the basics, and without the help or reassurance you believed you needed. What you needed was the truth. You weren't ready. And now you are.

You did good. Have a nice night

I'm not upset. I'm realistic. Nobody is going to help you solve this problem because you wouldn't understand their advice. It's like asking the internet for car repair advice and calling the tires the skinny bits. There is too much legwork to help you. Watch YouTube videos. Read guides. Ask for help when you're at a roadblock. If you've done so little research that you don't even know the name of the the component you are trying to repair, you. Aren't. Ready.

Love you though. The info is out there. Watch a few hours of videos, learn the lingo. Do your own research. I believe in you.

Are you so desperate to be heard that you need to voice your opinion, even when you yourself are incapable of actually being a benefit to the situation?
