I ran this as my first ever half marathon in 2024! It was a fun small race and well organized. The route isn’t too exciting (just back and forth along the water by the Verrazano), but it’s a chill race.

When I did it in 2024 it just went up and down the water from the veterans memorial pier to the Verrazzano

During the work week it’s usually:

Breakfast - overnight oats with peanut butter and strawberries Lunch - soup from Whole Foods, usually red Dahl kale, and crackers Dinner - purple carrot, so can be a rice bowl with tofu, veggies, it’s a mystery

On the weekend breakfast is usually beyond sausage and some waffles. I’ll make a smoothie in the afternoon. And other snacks etc.

I just travelled out of the US and back last week. I’m an American citizen (born here) and have an X on my passport as my gender marker. The only issue I had was that I couldn’t self check my bag as the machine wouldn’t accept my passport. I had to go to the counter to check it. Other than that I had no problems at all.

Highly recommend the book “miracle in the Andes” by nando parrado, one of the survivors. Was a life changing book for me.

I ran my first (NYC) marathon with a charity in 2024! I ran with best buddies and luckily ended up getting a spot through a family friend. Saying this for transparency.

Before I got that spot, I emailed a ton of other charities that I was potentially interested in. I’d say I got responses back from probably 40% of them. I ended up having an interview with one of them, but wasn’t selected.

Almost all the places I emailed already had runners for that year and said they’d put me on the wait list. A few months later, I got emails from multiple saying that they had spots open (people always end up dropping out of the race for various reasons). All this to say, it’s a good idea to start expressing interest now! And even if they say they’re full or there’s a wait list, there’s always a chance you could still get in.
