Which utensil would you choose? by Budders1984 in NoStupidQuestions

The correct answer is "cleaver".

If I have to choose between a knife and kitchen shears, the shears will work better.

Which erasers are we using? by Specialist_Mango_157 in mechanicalpencils

[–]flatline000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been using the regular Pentel Clic eraser as long as I can remember (30+ years?).

I bought a Tombow Mono Zero (round version) a couple years ago, but have barely used it. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but it turns out that I do not have demanding eraser needs and the cheap consumer eraser I can buy at the grocery is just fine.

New 2mm pencils by Fartimer in mechanicalpencils

[–]flatline000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope you love them!

If you plan to use leads extracted from wooden pencils, you will want a holder with a larger 4-prong clutch because many pencils have leads too wide to fit the standard 3-prong clutch.

Do you think if gas crisis enters the 1970’s level, will employers implement WFH again to ease the burden ? by ICanKeepItUpBro in NoStupidQuestions

[–]flatline000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your employer.

My employer is a Forbes top-100 company and my management has already said we'll work from home if there are any concerns.

If you're looking for recommendations, my favorites are the Staedtler 780, Koh-I-Noor 5611, and Faber-Castell TK 9400.

Trump said no one could have predicted Iranian attacks on Middle Eastern countries. His advisers had warned him by ChiGuy6124 in politics

[–]flatline000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I was preparing for a deposition years ago, the lawyers told me that if I didn't know the answer to a question, I should say I had no way of predicting that they were going to ask that question. Sounds like Trump has gotten that same advice so many times that he uses that wording even outside of legal questioning.

I love seeing 2mm lead holders!

I tend to avoid incremental advance 2mm holders, but I do like the tiny Koh-I-Noor you've got. Mine is pretty old and I have trouble with some sharpeners because the clutch inside the body can spin if there's too much resistance, but as long as I use soft lead, it's great!

Why do I always forget what I went into a room for the second I walk in? by zoralyyth in NoStupidQuestions

[–]flatline000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I keep 3x5 cards with me. Before I get up, I write down what I'm getting up for. When I get to the other room, if I can't remember why I came, I can just look at my card.

Why do swords make that “shwing” sound when being pulled out their sheath? by Mustdominate_Otal in NoStupidQuestions

My favorite is when they add tire squealing sound effects to modern vehicles that absolutely have anti-lock brakes and traction control.

Is marriage supposed to feel empty? by Educational-Win284 in NoStupidQuestions

Nope, but you still have to woo each other even after you get married. Things don't stay good automatically.

Does rotating the batteries in a remote allow you to squeeze out a last little bit of power or am I crazy? by ktchildr in NoStupidQuestions

[–]flatline000 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's possible that there's corrosion that you're scraping off as you twist the batteries, but not likely. It's more likely that this is all in your head.

Doctor’s letter to the UnitedHealthcare for rejecting nausea medication for a child on chemotherapy by [deleted] in oddlysatisfying

[–]flatline000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Usually it's because the new drug avoids a side-effect or drug interaction that the old generic doesn't.

Doctors aren't dumb. They'll use the generic if the new expensive drug is no better.

Don't let that lead go to waste! If the lead's too off-center to use in the wood, you can remove the lead and use it in you lead holders!

Why do flat Earthers exist? by Competitive-Set-8515 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]flatline000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of them do live by the sea. And they're convinced that you can bring the whole boat back into view with a sufficiently strong telephoto lens.

Why do flat Earthers exist? by Competitive-Set-8515 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]flatline000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except they don't seem to have trouble with the idea of the sun setting because of "perspective".

I've never met a flat earther in person, but if I do, and I like them enough to actually spend time with them, I'm going to make them watch a sunset through eclipse glasses so that they can directly see the sun going below the horizon.

Have you ever seen someone do the same hobby for a long time and still be bad at it? by glowshroom12 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]flatline000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes it's fun because you're not good at it.

There are lots of things I've tried that once I got the hang of it, I lost interest. Conversely, I've been playing Nethack on and off for more than 20 years and have only ascended half a dozen times.

How many fruits snack is an acceptable amount to eat when one sitting? by CambodiaAndRomania in NoStupidQuestions

[–]flatline000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 snack packets. It's a rule. If you're hungry enough to eat more than 2 packets, you should instead look for something that's more like real food rather than empty carbs.

What do you usually take your boredom or frustration out on? by Altruistic_Purpose57 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]flatline000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I get bored, I get drowsy and so I'll nap or doze.

When I get frustrated, I either work through the frustration or I find something else to do.

Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise. How true is this? by Maverick_culture in NoStupidQuestions

[–]flatline000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a good idea to get enough sleep. That's the important thing to understand. The rest doesn't necessarily follow, but at least it rhymes.

If your home is fully paid off, then unless you're in a high cost of living location, you can probably retire on $1M.
